Broncos Keys to Success

The Broncos 2008 season will be an entertaining one. It will be fun to watch the team mature together week by week even though I'm sure we'll see the growing pains that accompany that. I'm thinking Cutler will make huge strides if Ryan Clady and the offensive line do their jobs. The defense should be much improved. I expect the Broncos to reach the playoffs but again lose early as a wild card team. I'm working on a Broncs Zoo animation for the season opener. You won't want to miss it, especially if you are a Raider Hater.

Still some unanswered questions but I think we will definitely do better than last year!

The Broncos remind me of the Raiders of last season...lack of talent, depth and over all experience playing together = Yikes!

John, I think you may be color blind, socially blind and sports blind as the Broncos do not look, play or run their organization anything like the Raiders. The lack of "experience playing together" is the only complaint among the three you make which has any basis in reality, and we shall see how much of a difference that makes.

What a classic with Shanny as a balloon! Way to go Drew! Hope springs eternal with the Broncos let us see what this youth can do!

Drew your best cartoon I'd ever seen (outside of your absolutely outstanding tributes) was quite awhile ago. It pictured Al Davis in a Santa Claus suit holding a bag labeled "Toys". In the bag was a stuffed Donkey (Bronco). What happened to you man? You didn't used to be a biased homer. Make sure your cartoon on Tuesday is something like a pair of eyes and Mike Shanahan's big tooth peeking through an impenetrable wall of black. Title it "Darkness descends on Denver". Raiders win 31-10.

The Broncos will be fortunate to be better than 6-10 this season. This is a rebuilding year with the loss of Elam & Smith. No way Selvin Young comes close to 2,000 yards. He'll be lucky to break 1,000. If Cutler gets injured, the season is over right then and there, because then your looking at more like 3-13.
There is no defense. At all. The defensive players that played well in preseason are all out of jobs. There is no pass rush of any kind.
Prater did okay in preseason, but NFL teams don't win many games with just field goals.

In otherwords, don't get your hopes up.

Losing a kicker and a receiver does not constitute a rebuilding year. Although Rod Smith was a great leader, he was not a game changing receiver like Moss, Owens or Rice.

This year is Cutler's coming out party. Like Elway in is third and fourth seasons, Cutler will show how much he can carry a team. Do I think Denver will make the Superbowl, no. But being in contention for the playoffs in December is not outside the realm of possibilities.

What will be the dowfall of this team is lack of a consistent pass rush to compliment the secondary. LT is going to run wild on the Broncs unless Moss and others step up.

Schmitty really means that it's Cutler's Going Out Party. He'll be replaced as the starting QB by game 7 due to lack of touchdowns and completions and an overabundance of interceptions.

    Enter Patrick Ramsey.

    The Broncos will finish 5-11.

I have to wonder what Broncos team some of these people were watching in the pre-season. Yes, they're young. Yes, Elam is no longer the kicker. But does that mean they aren't a competitive team in the NFL? OF COURSE NOT!

I thought the preseason made this year look very promising. The defense looked composed, if a little uninspired, but still LIGHT YEARS ahead of the Bates disaster of 2007. Cutler looked sharp and composed both in and out of the pocket. Our running game -- as usual -- looked phenomenal, and we are loaded with depth at both running back and fullback. There are still a few question marks surrounding our receivers, but we have a strong slot game with Stokley and are likely looking to get our tight ends (another area of immense depth for the Broncos) more involved.

There are still some areas that need improvement -- pass rush in particular -- that will likely develop in the first half of the season as the newer team members become more comfortable with each other. We still have the best corner duo in the business and our o-line will give Cutler the time and space he needs to have a breakout season. My prediction: 10-6 with a playoff berth. Should be a good year.
