Buffs: Blackout in Boulder

Buffs play Rough
The Buffs have taken another step up the ladder of respect by knocking off West Virginia in Boulder. Just how good was that West Virginia team they beat? Some preseason polls actually had the Mountaineers in the National Title hunt. For the Buffs to contain the kind of speed they faced against West Virginia was no easy task.

A Little too Conservative for my taste.
Dan Hawkins came out with a wide open game plan that put West Virginia on their heels early. Then, like so many coaches, the Buffs coaching staff spent the rest of the game trying not to lose. Personally, I thought Hawkins tucked the ball away a little too early. That said, this was a huge win for the Buffaloes football program that has endured its share of down years.

    Good job Drew. What a win. I'll take it anyway we can get it. Once again the Buffs showed that they are a very talented and very inexperienced football team. I think these guys can make a serious run when all the freshman and sophomores grow into juniors and seniors. But for now, it's going to be a wild year.

    Cody Hawkins sucks. He cannot hang onto the ball in pressure situations and he's not mobile enough or tall enough to be a serious threat as a QB.

    The Buffs defense couldn't stop WV's running game even a little bit. They've been exposed.

    West Virginia beat themselves. They were not beaten by Colorado. They're also not close to the same team they were even last year.

    Now the real schedule starts. CU is going to hate their remaining schedule after being able to waltz through the the first 3 opponents. The Buffs won't win more than 2 more games this season.

    FIRE DAN HAWKINS! He's a biased coach who needs to stop coddling his son as the starting QB.

    Gary, what game were you watching-or did you just read the stats? Yeah WVU ran for a bunch of yards but the Buffs stopped them when it mattered. 14 points means we did contain them. The Buffs shot themselves in the foot as many times as WVU did (should have had a pick 6 by Brown and the turnover at the 16) - truth is the game shouldn't have been as close as it was. Cody's a gamer pure and simple, would be great if he were taller but get over it. Those 2 TD passes especially the short one was beautiful. I loved the running game - maybe a little conservative, but that was just smart game planning. This team is coming together. 8 wins this year and big momentum into next year when we contend for the Big 12.

    I stand by everything I said. The reason Cody Hawkins is the starting QB is because of the name on the back of his jersey, not the one on the front.

    CU will not be able to recruit a top level QB until either Cody graduates or is demoted permanently to 2nd string. Why would a top flight QB come to CU if he knows of the conflict of interest between QB and head coach?

    CU is a mess.

    Yep, CU is a mess. They're 3-0, have the attention of big time recruits (especially out of CA) and are getting much better PR than they had in previous years. However, like you said, after upsetting #21 WVU, Hawkins needs to be fired. I mean sure, the Big XII has plenty of tandems like White and Devine that are going to kill CU with the running game. The Buffs were "exposed".... right?

    By the way, if CU couldn't stop WVU's running game at all, what was the deal with the 3rd or 4th and shorts in which Hypo or Nicholas was on the runner before they could even get the original line of scrimmage?

    Look everyone, CU won, but they did not play well. WV should not be ranked #21. We all know that. This win came against a WV team that did not bring their real game anyway. Just wait until next year when we have to play them at their place. We're going to get killed. The Buffs are also going to get blown up against FSU next week. That's going to be painful.
    Who cares though? The Buffs aren't going to a BCS bowl anyway. They'll probably get some bogus game like the National-Car-Rental-Company-Pick-Any-Car-You-Want Bowl. Yeah. Great. Big deal.
