Abortion
I applaud the Catholic Archbishop, Charles Chaput, for his column in the Denver Catholic Register. Chaput is within his rights to challenge the Governor for his plans to restore family-planning clinics. If Gov. Ritter is “pro-life,” as he purports to be, then it behooves him, as a Catholic, to adhere to the teachings of the Church. State funding should in no wise be given to Planned Parenthood and other such clinics, which are known to promote abortion. We hope that the Governor will listen and act accordingly.

This would amount to a theocracy, and illegal under our secular system of government.
It is not the job of Gov. Ritter to adhere to what the Church desires, but rather to obey the will of his electorate.
Ritter as governor can listen to Chaput insofar as Chaput is a voting person, but inasmuch as Chaput is a leader of a church, Ritter must give him no special attention.
As “Mr.” Ritter he is free to follow the church in any lawful way that he finds correct, but as “Governor” Ritter he is constrained to follow what his electorate desires.
If he sees it any other way then he should resign and go join the priesthood.
A governor is elected, not ordained.
Likewise, “Mr.Chaput” has first amendment rights to speak his mind, but “Arch-Bishop Chaput” has no such rights.
