Illegal immigration
Wednesday, January 24 at 3:10 PM

This is in response to a letter about how the Mexican Immigrants are keeping our economy alfoat. I am continually amazed that people fail to understand the definition of illegal. I have no problem with immigration, but come here legally, like many people have for generations. If you have to work to get legal status, then maybe you will appreciate what you have and want to be Americans. Wake up people, illegal is breaking our law.

"Illegal" means just that - immigration is fine, as long as it is done legally. All illegal aliens should go home and clean up their own country instead of destroying ours. Wake up before it is too late.

Illegal aliens make up only 4.9 percent of the U.S. work force. Unemployment usually runs higher. There economic importance is minimal yet there cost is maximal. Mexican's keeping the U.S. economy afloat is a fallacy and only a new attempt for calls for Amnesty/ Gest Worker Program. Just more lipstick on the pig.

i wish the natives would have thought the same way and kept your ancestors from destroying our land and communities.

In response to Mr. Blackelk's comment....different times, different issue. My ancestors were immigrants, they came to the US for a better life (heard those words before?) but they assimulated themselves into the American culture. They were not coddled by merchandisers into thinking it is OK not to speak our language or obey our laws. Yes, give us the poor and underprivledged but become Americans....not Mexicans living in America.

Well Judy its nice to think that your ancestors "assimulated themselves into the American culture", but in reality they would not have made it through the first winter here had it not been for the genorousity of the indigenous peoples that were already here. So they were indeed "coddled" or helped through their ordeal. Why can't we seen the human side of this story and quit blaming people for trying to make their lives better?

First of all, the name is JODY. I said my ancestors were immigrants...from Germany. I am a 4th generation American. My great grandparents allowed only English to be spoken in their home. When I can't go to the local King Soopers or Walmart with out listening to a foreign language on the monitors or on the over-head system, that's when it is clear to me that these immigrants are being "coddled" into thinking that they do not have to become part of their adopted country.
My objection to the current immigrant situation is that as a civilized society, we are expected to establish and obey the laws we approve through our government. The immigrants who are here illegally, are blatantly disobeying those laws.
When I came to Colorado from another state I was obligated "by law" to change my driver's license and address to reflect that new residency. I came to Colorado to find a better life, does that mean I am not obligated to follow the laws of my new "homeland" ? I think not. Looking to better your life is not a reason to disregard the law.
