Dixie Chicks
Wednesday, February 28 at 1:33 PM

Kathy Grant of Golden writes:

I was offended by the Spotlight headline on Monday,f Feb. 12, which read, “Dixie Chicks get last laugh,” referring to their Grammy wins on Sunday the night before.
I would like to pose this question to the Chicks and their fans: Do they think that the Chicks’ newfound Hollywood friends would fight and die to protect their freedom to spout their seditious vitriol around the world?
Right. With “friends” like that, they would be laughing all the way to the firing squad!

I am glad that you are offended, Clueless, too!

Kathy,

Just who exactly would be manning that firing squad? A group of rural-valued, conservative, and religious fundamentalists, I'm sure. So my question is: which group, the Taliban or the New Life Christian Church?

Posted by M 242 on February 28, 2007 01:55 PM

Hollywood fight???????????????????? Bwahahahahah!!!!!!!!!!The Ditzy Chicks would have their clueless heads cut off in a nano second by the very animals they protect. I am proud of the true Americans who boycotted their CDs!!!!!

I sure hope the new Democratic regime confers with Chicken Chicks on every level of national concern. They DO have the answers to all of America's needs don't they????
BTW they won the UNDESERVED grammys only because it was a political statement from the far, far, far, left. The far left will say and DO anything to get their putrid point across!!! To bad, most of us are smarter then they think and don't fall for their agenda of hate!!!!!!!

It must really sting you guys that your ban was a complete failure.

Posted by flimflam on February 28, 2007 05:08 PM

Kathy, are you in the armed services? Oh, what's that? No? Then how dare you criticize someone else for not being in the armed forces, hypocrite.

Posted by Tbone on February 28, 2007 05:08 PM

I think what really stings the wingnuts is how completely wrong Bush and Co have been. There was no imminent danger and the war was completely unnecessary.

Posted by Daisy on February 28, 2007 06:06 PM

Tbone, do you have a brain? Oh, what's that? No? Then how dare you criticize someone else for having one, hypocrite.

The Dixie Chicks have more testicular fortitude than the entire Bush cartel, and have a better understanding of our Constitution than all the rednecks combined.
Besides...THEY WERE RIGHT.
God Bless 'em!!

The Ditzy Twits won the best Country Music Grammy... and they're not even played on country radio. They insulted their fans and then complained that their 1st amendment rights were being violated because their former fans refused to buy their album or play their music.

Posted by on February 28, 2007 09:42 PM

So, T, you didn't answer my question either. Who is going to kill them for their beliefs? The Taliban or Focus on the Family? There are way too many positive correlations between any of you Anti-American (but "Christian" people, but that is still not different) conservative 'people' and the Islamic fundamentalists that you claim to hate so much for any of you to ever admit it. So, that's right, let's just kill all those who don't agree with us!!! Sound familiar? It should; this is the same thing that Islamic fundamentalist bastards say to us when they kill us out of hate. If it is true that Yahweh/Jehovah/Allah is truly as vindictive (yes, and evil) as the 2 Testaments and Koran tell us, then I guess that all of you christian fundamentalists are going to be duking it out with all those suicide bombers and 1940's proto-Israeli terrorists for the correct rewarding of religious zeal (all of you are trying to appease the same god, you know). But I know that I'll end up seeing you all in hell, and I'll be better off, as I never have posited that any of the "monotheistic" religions are better than the other. Ever seen 'South Park''s rendition of hell? This is actually (in spite of the source) a very good conception of Yahweh and the idea of hell. Keep an open mind, and it will all come to you, if you want it to.

Allah is not the same as the Christian God, M 242. The Koran steals greatly from many JEWISH texts and calls for the murder of the Jewish people. Christians and practicing Jews are not the same as Muslims!!

Christians will ridicule them and call them names like the Ditzy Chicks but we'll let them say what they want, we just probably won't listen. The Muslims would use genital mutilation, beheading and stoning to get them into line. Now, you tell me, who is more dangerous?

Posted by k on February 28, 2007 11:45 PM

k, let me tell you, I wish I could agree with you but . . .

The Christians, Jews, and Muslims of this age, whether they agree or not, all derive their existence to the Prophet Abraham, from the Genesis chapter of the Old Testament or Torah or the initial entries of the Koran. They all derive from the children of Abraham, either Isaac or Ishmael, depending on who you think was the proper heir of Abraham. Either way, they are of the very same tradition. Yahweh/Jehovah/Allah are inseparable, and that jealous and vindictive bastard is coming for all who have misunderstood him this whole time (which is most everyone)!!!!!!

Posted by M 242 on March 1, 2007 12:09 AM

Actually, the Koranic description of Allah more closely fits the Christian description of the Antichrist. And, no, Islam is not an Abrahamic religion. That's actually a pretty new invention. Allah is the name of a moon god from a polytheistic pantheon that was driven into obscurity. Islam started with the Prophet Mohammed, who heard voices in a cave. Now you're going to go make me look up what really happened to Ishmael because he is not the progenitor of the people of Islam. Islam is a religion, not a race

Posted by k on March 1, 2007 12:18 AM

Boy, k, but . . .

The Koranic description of the messiah is that of the "Fightin' Jesus", not that of a return of Mohammed. Remember, that it is believed that Abraham himself built the Qa'aba in Mecca (the focal point of the Hajj, remember?). Besides, the adoption of polytheistic gods and rituals/holidays assimilated by the religions of Abraham is quite well known (how exactly is Dec. 25 the birthday of Jesus? Par example.). Judiasm, more exactly the Hebrew people, are ethnic people (for the most part). Islam, because its belief of redemption of Gentiles (and yes, not in those exact words but in the same vein) through the acceptance of Allah (/Jehovah/Yahweh) makes for a convincing counterpart of Paulite Christianity. Besides, they all have Abraham as their base. So . . . Where's the difference?

Posted by M 242 on March 1, 2007 12:40 AM

I guess to some, the freedom of speech only counts when one agrees with what is being said.

(flimflam)
If it didnt work, then why do you think they whined for so long, funny liberals think they are the only ones allowed an opinion. I turned Independent when I saw how hateful the democratic party had become, not just hateful, but, down right frighting. Anyone driving down some areas in denver during elections saw sighns that were very oppressive of any other view other then thier own. AND NOW ,SUPRISE,SUPRISE dixie chumps once again spew thier antiamerican retoric, of course during a time when so many are swayed. IF NOT FOR CLINTONS LACK OF ACTION, THIS ADMINISTRATION WOULD NOT HAVE HAD A REASON TO GO TO WAR. Do I think we should have gone to war? NO of course not, and we would not have had to if we had ELECTED Officials that did thier job, and not under the table. Stop blaming the current administration when the previous administration did nothing while terrorist trained in the U.S. and his own people told him of the threat, yet he did nothing, NO, WAIT, HE DID SIGN (NAFTA). Gee Thanks, that really screwed us. And now all the clinton peeps who gave permission to go to war to protect the U.S. (after all it was after 9-11, they didnt want to look bad) are back steping, stating "well I said to use force, just not war kind of force." Trust H. Clinton? Are you kidding me? And if the dixie chumps are your spokes people, count me out, I can do better than HOLYwood, (who disgraced the U.S. in another country.)

Two points I would like to make: (one) The Dixie Chicks won the award even though they didn't get any air-time. And (two), the discourse above makes the case that religion
has caused more hatred and murder in the world than all of the natural disasters, plagues, famine and crime combined. How diabolical it was of primitive man, to invent the concept of "god", to enslave the minds of mankind forever into the future.

Posted by Mike H. on March 1, 2007 07:01 AM

You are right Mike H.
As a character in a Woody Allen movie once explained: "The purpose of most religions is to tell you who to hate"

Posted by Daisy on March 1, 2007 07:27 AM

Kathy is offended by a headline and story about a band winning a grammy.

Why?

Because they had the gaul to exercise their First Amendment right to say what they thought.

Well, how dare they! Don't they know that only people who are in lockstep with this administration are allowed to voice their opinions?

Kathy...I'm offended by people like you. You don't have a clue what this country is really about.

Thomas Jefferson, the author of Declaration of Independence and one of our most influential founding fathers, wrote, "Dissent is the highest form of patriotism".

Kathy...if you and others want to live in a country where everyone thinks alike and had the same beliefs and values - I suggest you get a time machine and move to the Soviet Union of the 1950's.

Posted by Thomas on March 1, 2007 07:46 AM

Kathy,

By the way...if the Dixie Chicks winning those grammies got you upset...you better sit down, girl.

After the grammy win for best album, the sales of that album went up 734%.

SEVEN HUNDRED AND THIRTY FOUR PERCENT!

Do you understand the concept of democracy, Kathy? The Dixie Chicks really are having the last laugh because despite the mean-spirited, un-American demonization of them for speaking their mind...they are now...just a couple years later...a great deal more popular than the man that they criticized.

I'm not even a fan of their music, but I think Natalie Maine's partners in this group should be commended for standing by their friend through all of this. She said a harmless little statement that was blown way out of proportion and they made a choice to stand by her despite all the hatred and vitriol that was spewed in their direction. This is the character that defines great Americans.

I bet Scooter Libby is wishing he had friends like them about now.

mae, you are really stung arent you?

Posted by flimflam on March 1, 2007 09:05 AM

m 242,

After looking at my notes, I have come to the conclusion that a reply would take up too much room for a public message board. If you would like to continue this conversation, I would be happy to move it to a place more conducive to very long posts. If your purpose is to equate all religions as the basis of evil, well, that's your opinion and you are welcome to it.

As to the Dixie Chicks, they can say whatever they want. I have the right to not agree with them and to become offended by what they say. They attacked my president in front of a foreign audience and then had the NERVE to claim to be victims. Criticize the president all you want, it is still in bad taste to do so in front of a foreign audience during a time of war.

Posted by k on March 1, 2007 11:29 AM

thomas the sales were to other Bush bashers and not any fans. how many did you buy to help them out? none of the other liberals listen to their cd's so it doesnt matter if you like it or not just buy them.
I bet Scotter thinks they stink also and wouldnt want any of their cd's or them to be his friends.

Posted by Bobby-Jo on March 1, 2007 12:07 PM

k, you misunderstand my purpose, but that's OK.

As for the Chicks, they turned out to be right after all. I and many more people than before are amashed to have W in the Oval Office, too, and when you throw Tom DeLeay into the mix it is easy to see how the Chicks were rightfully ashamed for the State of Texas. And it is not in that bad taste to go to another free nation and exercise their right to free speech. It does not matter too much that they lost a small legion of (essentially) redneck fans, but they have turned out to be right again there, too. Apparently, a shaping of their audience to more their liking has maybe cost them a few bucks, sure, but hey, if you're in the music business, it's really nice to end up with a Grammy. I would consider that a fair trade-off, as they did not accept the award wearing burlap.

Posted by M 242 on March 1, 2007 12:44 PM

Kathy....do you think ANY of the Bush children below would execute the task you ask the editor? The answer rhymes with 'D'OH!!!!

Jenna Bush
Barbara Bush

Military Service Eligible Children of Jeb Bush
George P. Bush
Noelle Bush
John Ellis Bush Jr.

Military Service Eligible Children of Neil Bush

Samuel LeBlond
Ellie LeBlond

The Dixie Chicks should be called the Dixie Liberal Pigs instead. Natalie Maines is nothing but Liberal white trash and she's ashamed Bush. Anna Nicole Smith, Gov. Anne Richards, Pres.Lyndon Johnson and herself are only a few that Texas should be ashamed of.
The Idiot had no brains and tried to kiss up to the British scum liberals and forgot she was biting the hand that feeds her. By the way it's a toss up who is more scummy, the American liberals or the Brits and uglier. So they got a token Grammy Award for being subversives in a time of war. What else is new for Hollywood and the Music Industry? They are a dime a dozen group of entertainers. You heard one of their songs and you heard them all! The only reason the are selling more records is because their city slicker fellow subversives that really can't even stand country music in the first place are buying them up. That's not going to last beyond the Spring of this year and with their true base already gone it's obscurity-ville for these "One Trick Pony "traitors.

So, m 242, what exactly is your purpose then, if I misunderstand it?

Posted by k on March 1, 2007 04:32 PM

My,My, Ducati,
Does the truth really offend you that much?
Perhaps you and other hillbillys of your ilk should look into therapy to treat your hate problem.
By the way ,we wouldn't be in a time of war if your Idol Bush hadn't created it. To have a chickenhawk as Commander -in-Chief is an insult to all the troops who didn't run when called to duty like both Bush AND Cheney.
