Rocky plays into cynical Dems’ hands
On its Web site and in its pages recently, the Rocky Mountain News was slanted and biased in referring to the U.S. Senate’s refusal to break a filibuster on the Iraq war resolution as a “refusal to debate the war.” Nothing could be further from the truth.
In fact, it is Majority Leader Harry Reid and his troops who are refusing to debate. They will not allow the alternative resolution by New Hampshire Republican Sen. Judd Gregg to be voted on, which calls for a cutoff in funding for the war.
This resolution eliminates the hypocrisy. Instead of a meaningless and nonbinding resolution opposing the troop buildup, it would bring the troops home and surrender the fight.
The Democrats don’t want to have to go on record as being in favor of cutting off funding. They just want to harvest the political capital from a compliant press, without having to take an actual, meaningful stand.

Posted by Frank on February 28, 2007 04:48 AMThe GOP far right as usual is maintaining it's high standard of hypocrisy as it whines about the Dems now finding their backbone.
The GOP's resolution is just as meaningless as they say the Dem's is.,, it just changes the topic and provides cover for the GOP.
The GOP resolution does not lead the US to the truth... that the GOP endangered the long term security of our Country by pandering to an out of control President and Vice President who conned the Voters and both Democrats and Republicans in Congress into approving an Iraq War based on lies about WMD.
For those of us who took an oath to defend the Constitution against all enemies foreign and domestic... Bush & Cheney's lies might be considered treason.
And still the far right loonies in the GOP defend and cover up for Bush & Cheney.
The GOP, when they had Senate control, threatened to take away the filibuster if the Dems used it... but now that they cannot control the war/lies dialogue they use the filiguster with wild abandon,
It is not about supporting the troops for the far right. It is about getting back and maintaining Absolute Control of all political discussion.
The GOP will return to it's core values and find it's Conservative soul when it joins with progressive Democrats in Investigating the WMD lies and Impeaching Bush.
The GOP shined best in the Watergate era when it helped bring an impeachment action against Nixon. Our current President, given the thousands of hours of video tape... is the most easily Impeachable President in our Country's history.
Where is the GOP on this.
