Irwin MacLeod of Colorado Springs writes:

There are three reasons we have to close the two thousand miles of open border between the United States and Mexico. No. 1 there is no doubt that Al Qaeda and Islamic fundamentalists will cross the border and could cost lives of thousands of Americans No. 2: Mexico is he largest point of entry for drugs and are killing our children thru overdoses and car accidents, crippling the minds of hundreds of thousands of Americans. Drug cartels sell over twenty billion dollars worth of drugs every year to the U.S. Close the borders. No. 3: There are over a milliion crossing the border every year. We have 12 to 20 million illegal immigrants here now. ICE arrests and deports a few hundred a month and 80 to 90 thousand illegals come across the border, so you can see this won’t work. Close the borders. We need six thousand National Guard that are already at the border to have the right to arrest and detain. If we add to that another four thousand national guard it would make it 5 to the mile , and with the border patrol it would make it make it 8 to the mile. This is less than two percent of the National Guard. During Katrina we sent five times that to Louisiana With 80 to 90 thousand immigrants crossing the border every month. and they will not stop coming until there tweleve million more. there is only way to stop this to put boots on the ground. With the ten thousand the National Guard and thousands of border patrol. YOU CAN CLOSE THE BORDERS. It is in the National interest that safety of the American people that this border is closed now.

This letter makes me laugh. It is hard to believe anyone can consider "closing" the border as a practical "solution", but there you have it folks. What a hoot.

How about enforcing the existing laws against employers who hire them? Oh, wait Reagan stopped doing that when he was in charge, and it's those same guys who paid for the Contract on America guys to win. (Read Wal-Mart and Home Depot and Mr.& Mrs. conservative Jones who want a cheap nanny and gardener.)
Also, check it out, more kids are dying from what they find in Mom & Dads medicine cabinet than what comes over the border. (Look it up!)

9/11 was an inside job. If there really were an impending threat to the USA, the border would have been closed before 2002.

If you go to 'google translation', Al Qada in Arabic simply means 'the base'. One day the top brass were thinking of what to call the imaginary threat while looking at a map of a training base in Afghanistan. Simply putting more resources, whether they be human, technological or both, into enforcing a closed border is not only inhumane, its illogical. The more enforcement we have, the more the price of crossing the border increases. This means that we see more migrant deaths in the desert, as Bri effectively illustrated. It also means that organized crime will have more capacity to flourish as a booming black market evolves. This goes for all smuggling networks to those who intend to do civilian harm.

In particularly, note the following paragraph:

We need a comprehensive immigration reform with higher visa caps, worker protections to insure all U.S. workers are protected and making a living wage, and policies that address the root causes of migration. A sounder trade agreement with poor nations will be much more effective, sane and humane than placing five national guard to each mile of border.
