Vets get short shrift in medical treatment
Thursday, March 29 at 12:01 AM

Nick A. Adlon of Sheridan writes:

Soldiers wounded in action face conditions unbecoming their sacrifice. These men and women deserve much better and much more. What is worse is the simple reality that those who violate U.S. laws are given better treatment than these soldiers.

Illegals are given free emergency medical treatment at any hospital without question. While they are receiving this, men and women who fought for this country are subjected to mold-infested rooms and subhuman care - even Gitmo detainees are treated better.

Congress had better do better for these vets, and for all of us vets who served this country. We earned in the sweat we gave, the tears fallen for our fellows and the blood we shed. We have earned it, we earned better than this.

Take the money that is given to the detainee facilities and illegals and help those who have earned the care.

Walter Reed is only the tip of the iceberg - Congress should look in all veterans hospitals not just there. All vet hospitals are below par while illegals are treated much better. All are suffering while detainees, by comparison, live pampered lives.

Nick,

I totally agree with you. My father who fought in two wars and earned 2 bronze stars in one of them is right now in a veterns home, I expect this man (my hero) to be given the best treatment available. Like all military men and women who have fought in wars for our country, they deserve respect and care from us the US Citizens and from their own government.

Our vets are getting great healthcare. Walter Reed was a housing problem...an old hotel that had fallen into disrepair. No excuse...the conditions were bad. But none of the troops living in Bldg. 18 complained of poor medical treatment. The VA's health budget has increased by 77% since Bush took office. The VA healthcare system is a model for treatment and cost efficiency.

Bless the men and women in uniform! They are the real heros of this decade!

Next time we are attacked by anybody we should send Sean (gulp) Penn, Jihad Jane Fonda, snoozen Susan Sarandon, and the rest of the far left ding-bats to "talk" to our enemys. I'm sure the terrorists would just lay down their arms and surrender with these able-bodied gaurdians speaking for us.
I would suggest sending the illegals, but, the military doesn't want them anymore than the American citizens. They mess up everything they touch! Of course giving them guns might result in a little "friendly fire" that wouldn' t be so bad.

Here is the story not being told in the RMN:

The company responsible for the debacle at Walter Reed is the same private contractor hired to haul ice all around the country after Katrina.
So no matter how much the health budget increases, things aren't going to change as long as this criminal administration continues to hand out tax dollars to their cronies in the private sector. Yet another example of the fallcy of privatization...

I gues Sean Penn and Susan Sarandon will HAVE to be the ones to go fight, since no one from the Bush or Cheney family (or any of the myriad chicken hawks on the right) is ever going to put their money where their mouths are.

Buffdriver, are you crazy? Were you aware that last year two vets died after being exposed to a fungus at the Denver VA, and that anyone with an immune problem can't be seen there right now due to a bacteria? I could tell you horror story after horror story after what I have experienced there. And I'm sad to say that the Denver VA is typical of VA hospitals. The VA is sadly underfunded, and the situation is only going to get worse. I have often made the same points in this blog that Mr Adlon has- it's a sad statement of our priorities when illegals get free care but our disabled veterans cannot.

While veterens and all people should be afforded the best possible healthcare, I'm not quite sure what this has to do with "illegal" immigrants. Are emergency rooms supposed to turn them away and let them die simply because they are technically not supposed to be here? Life is more sacred than nationality or politics.

Ken - that is the problem - VETS and legal citizens are not getting the health care they deserve because of the invasion of illegals. Hospitals are closing because of the free service they must provide to the illegals. Who do you think ends up paying for their care? LEGAL U.S. CITIZENS - whether it be by higher insurance costs or otherwise. Sad, but yes, emergency rooms should turn them away if they can't pay for it. Do you think a hospital is going to forgive my bills? Heck no, they would have the collection agency on me. Our VETS are risking their lives for us, and yet they come back and are not given the care they deserve, because of the illegals. One other point. Many families have had to take bankruptcy because of high medical bills, while the illegals walk in, get the care, and walk out, all without spending a dime. Something is mighty wrong with that picture.

If that is the case then it is the fault of the employers of those illegals for not paying the taxes.
Or is it that they do and what they pay is so low that the taxes don't match the burden?
