I am outraged! My tax dollars help sponsor the museum and we all pay the same fee to go to the exhibit.
I do not have a problem sharing the languages, both English and Spanish
Ms. Peterson’s indignation in this matter is completely justified. The omission of an English language brochure is offensive.
Probably the best way to deal with the situation at the museum or any other institution or business engaging in this practice is to write letters, call and so forth to request that the practice change. Remember, the museum is a publicly funded institution that should be answerable to the public. In the case of a business, one can simply inform the management that one will not shop/spend money there until the offending practice stop.
hey dont get upset. look at all the illigals, who refuse to learn English, that were there to gain knowledge of our country. You should be lucky you got in with the long line of non English speaking people lined up to get in.
Send good ole john the hick a thank you letter on a point of well done pandering to the illigals.
Now you know why so many US Citizens are getting upset over the illegal alien issue. This will continue to happen in this country until we start standing up united just like all illegal aliens do (demanding their so called rights). Welcome to the American Nightmare
Posted by P on April 30, 2007 08:40 AMI suspect that the same people now in an uproar over not having an English-language brochure would have been equally in an uproar if the museum had requested additional funds to either provide the English brochure or add Spanish plaques for the exhibits.
Since the plaques are already in English, wouldn’t it be wasteful to also have brochures that simply repeated what was on the plaques?
Or is waste ok, so long as it isn’t in Spanish?
I say that the writer wanted a souvenir of the exhibit and was put out because he was not offered one in English.
I agree, if the f***ing Mexicans can't learn English, then let them PAY for a brochure in Spanish.
And what about our international visitors who speak Russian, Chinese, Japanese,Swedish, French, German, etc. Do they not get to enjoy the same freaking priveledge as the spanish-speakers????
Might as well learn how to speak Spanish, soon it will be spoken more than English thanks to the people who live in "White Bread" America who don't see this as a problem....since they aren't listening to spanish on the overhead address system in stores, don't have to deal with the 15 people who hold up the bank line to open 1 account, because the Mexicans can't go anywhere alone, they have to drag the whole famn damily, is this so if one of them get "caught" breaking the law that someone else will be there to drive home the pick-up???
There are billboards in my neighborhood in Spanish and it won't be long before the street signs are "bi-lingual" which might be a good thing since apparently they don't have "one way" street signs in their country....oh, I forgot they do....they all point NORTH.....
Yes, I want them to learn ENGLISH......so go ahead and call me racist.

No, the people from other countries speaking these languages are smart and courteous enough to learn some english. Unlike our self-centered Spanish speakers who don;t have enough smarts to learn the basics.

Posted by gary on April 30, 2007 10:49 AMGiven the lack of English brochures and the surplus of Spanish brochures, it tells me that our Mexican friends never go to the museum, and have no interest in educational endeavors.
Posted by Philip on April 30, 2007 10:52 AMPhilip--
NOW you did it....Truth and Anderson will soon be telling us what a close minded little American you are. Of course the Mexicans are interested in educational endeavors, look at all their illegal anchor babies we are educating....in Spanish.
SCAATY,
you are absolutely correct, Anderson, Old Grouch, and Truthy will be all over this when they finally get to read this and the responses. We as Americans created this by becoming complacent, now the only way to stop it, is to start standing United and get involved, get a voice. Numbers USA is the best site to join and backing candidates who are going to stand up to the big business and to the government and say no more.
Posted by P on April 30, 2007 11:33 AMAlso, Grassfire.org. is involved in educating Americans about this threat to our nation. Has anyone kept up with the two border patrol agents who have been jailed for DEFENDING our borders???? The illegals were bringing over drugs were stopped and "apparently" their rights (?) were violated?????? Check it out, that will get some of you involved maybe.

Posted by on April 30, 2007 12:02 PMToo late SCAATY, you have been munching peaches produced by immigrant workers in the USA for decades, and now the demographics are starting to show themselves.
It is too late to start whining about Spanish now, Hispanics already make up the largest single minority in the US and through fertility rate and further immigration the numbers will only increase and probably accelerate over time.
Unlike the Russians, Greeks, Italians, etc previously and currently, their numbers never climbed high enough to be a voting bloc.
So Spanish will be different to those, Spanish is here to stay, and in little over 50 years time will be the largest single language bloc in the US.
The time to have said something was many decades back.
It is too late now.
Yo, Mr. Smarty Pants, I said that already. Like someone else remarked, you don't really read these posts, must just scan them for something to point fingers at others about.
Hasta La Vista, Stupidio....
Splendid.
So if you agree, quit whining, learn Spanish.
Are you and Truth the same person??? "Cause SHE/HE always has to have the last word, too. P.S. Learned Spanish electively in high school, just like the Mexicans should be learning English, electively.
But don't tell them because then they will stop talking around me when I know what they are saying.
You're absolutely correct, Bango. Uncle Ronnie really screwed us on the last amnesty around 1986.

Stupid Gringo Americanos!
Wise up! The government has sold you all out to the Mexicans and Chinese. It is already too late to change things. And when they take away the guns from all you law abiding citizens, we will be there to take over your homes too, not just your jobs, emergency rooms, and museums. White fools.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!! You are a riotous idiot, mis-named "YOUR MAKER"!! I can't wait for your "WOTHLESS" ass to be thrown in jail when you decide to kill some "ILLEGAL SCUM" that happens to turn out to be a US citizen. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!! I just can't wait!!
Posted by on April 30, 2007 05:23 PMThe issue at the museum shows one basic truth. That hispanics are true racists. While all other cultures in this country have to learn English, ie Russian, Swahili, Tagalog, Farsi et al. Only Hispanics are catered to, All others are not worth the effort, just Hispanics,, there is the true racism.
Posted by Nick on April 30, 2007 06:18 PMer Nick, pardon me?
The Hispanics are racist because the museum provided brochures in Spanish?
How do you figure that?
Posted by Bango Skank on April 30, 2007 08:46 PMWell Bango, why dont hispanics demand that other pamphlets are printed in every other language? or is that too much for them to want? they are the ONLY minority right?
Posted by Nick on April 30, 2007 09:38 PMIf I were a member of the museum, I would cancel my membership immediately because of this catering to illegal aliens with Spanish language brochures.
I regularly contact companies that tell me I have to "Press 1 for English" and I let them know that as an American citizen I should not have to do that. I also praise companies that answer the phone in English without forcing me to press anything to talk with a customer service representative in English.
Go to www.numbersusa.com and sign up to get email alerts to fax the crooks in D.C. that you are fed up with this illegal entry crap. I blast the Colorado delegation every time I get a fax notice from NubersUSA.
Posted by QBT on April 30, 2007 11:00 PMI went into a Ross store yesterday. It had been a few years since my last visit. This store at Alemeda and Wadsworth with totally hispanic in both workers and shoppers. The store was filthy, everything thrown all over the place. The fitting rooms were full of screaming little kids who's moms could care less that only dogs could hear that pitch of wailing. I left without buying a thing . Got home and washed my hands and they were filthy from touching the store products. Yuck. Never again will I walk through Ross's doors. Call me a racist...I don't care. Spanish is an ugly language that gives me headaches when I'm exposed to it for any period of time. Speak english!

Posted by MCD on May 1, 2007 09:51 AMThe writer makes an excellent point. I disagree with use of brochures in general but why not multilingual? I am a member of the Museum and I am very disappointed they chose to "waste" resources to create single language brochures. If there are Spanish-only speaking members of our community who are patrons of the museum then I encourage them to learn to the official language rather than expect accommodation at the expense of others. This should not be treated as a handicap.
It is unfortunate this excellent commentary is marred by slurs and racial epithets. This has nothing to do with legal vs. illegal.
All men may be created equal Lisa; but it's what they do afterwards that separates them.
Posted by QBT on May 1, 2007 10:58 AMMaw, it has EVERYTHING to do with illegal and legal. The U.S. is experiencing horrendous problems because of the influx of illegal aliens pouring into this country. I would list the problems but I don't have all day!!!
It is outrageous that they are carrying signs and waving the flag of Mexico and DEMANDING that America let them have citizenship for breaking our immigration laws. In the meantime other immigrants have to wait years to be admitted into the United States. IS THAT FAIR????? The Museum should be ashamed for printing brochures in Spanish only!!! The Mexican's are not the only non-English-speaking residents in the state of Colorado.
Posted by T on May 1, 2007 11:07 AMNick said ”why dont hispanics demand that other pamphlets are printed in every other language”
Why are you saying that they demand[ed] pamphlets?
The Museum decided to provide brochures in Spanish, probably because it was cheaper than adding Spanish plaques to all exhibits.
So why are you accusing the Hispanics for something that they didn’t “demand”, and which was done by the museum?
My wife is a Vietnamese national and we had to jump through months of legal hoops to legally get what these clown are taking a day off to demand. I have no respect for these people and I think our leaders should listen to the voters.
Posted by Michael on May 1, 2007 11:18 AMYes, yes I'm sure all the bad things that happen to you are due to illegal immigrants, along with the war in Iraq, school shootings, Global Warming etc.
THIS ISSUE is not about whether those patrons needing Spanish brochures are here legally or not ... it is, as Ms Peterson suggests, the idea that a brochure should also be available in English or, as I prefer, no resource wasting brochures at all.
Well, Lisa I guess we should let every one who want's to crash down America's door into this country. Do you know that millions, upon millions, of people on this planet, which number into the billions want to come and live in the U.S.???? Shall we take them ALL in???????????? When we are packed like sardines what do we do then Lisa??? Will we be denying them their "unalienable rights"?? or their quest for the "pursuit of happiness" If we protest that we are against the overcrowding, the crime, the disease, the jobs that of course will be non-existent if we let each and every person on this planet who wants to walk through America's gates in??? Will we be stepping on their rights Lisa??? Just one more question Lisa. What happened to the American peoples unalieable rights??????
Posted by T on May 1, 2007 11:42 AMRace war? Sweet!
Posted by Mr. Manson on May 1, 2007 12:44 PMT said “What happened to the American peoples unalieable rights??????”
The settlers took them away and stuffed the American peoples into reservations.
Worked out really well for “us” on the whole.
The Spaniards did something similar down south and in fact they destroyed the cultures so well that all the people coming across the borders now speak Spanish.
So “we” are inheriting the problems of the Spanish, and of course the little issue of when “we” annexed all that territory from Mexico. For some reason they still feel touchy about that and want it back.
Go figure.
Posted by Bango Skank on May 1, 2007 12:46 PMLisa,
Those words are from a document written for the people, by the people, and of the people....of the UNITED STATES of AMERICA. Those rights were not written for those who are in our country illegally and have no respect for our laws or our way of life.
What is it that is so hard to understand....rights belong to citizens....if you don't follow our laws and are here illegally, YOU HAVE NO RIGHTS.
Excuse me, need to go downtown and buy some burritos....it's the only thing Mexican I can stand any longer.
SCAATY, so when those lines were written by those gentlemen, what were the immigration laws and how did the Immigration Department of the US government deal with illegal immigrants?
What's that you say?
They had no immigration laws and no government department to do with immigration?
So what sort of visa did one need to get legal residence?
No visa required?
Wow.
Posted by Bango Skank on May 1, 2007 12:57 PMBS,
So now will you bring up slavery and every other mistake that has been made by our forefathers? Stop with the native American argument, that happened, it was wrong, it can not be done over. This effects all of our futures. If you would come into the city from your white bread community and see what the reality of illegal immigration is you might have a different feeling.
Believe it, those people in Parker who had the Mexican drag his girlfriend behind his truck until she was a bloody pulp were mortified. But that really wasn't that much different from the baby girl being dragged under a pick up by a drunk Mexican downtown.
OPEN YOUR EYES.....these illegals do not respect us or our country.
Sorry SCAATY, but you opened that door.
I agree with you though that illegal immigration is causing trouble and that the future stability of the US is at stake.
The die was cast way back before Caesar Chavez, and now we are seeing the natural outcome of the claim that farmers and other industries needed "guest workers".
What we now have is the result of those decisions that were intended to undermine worker stability and wages in the US, and to get larger profits.
Those selfsame industries also destabilized the home countries, and so now you have a situation in which there are millions of people whose lives absolutely suck, and making a few bucks in the US is better than what they have back home. That feeds a never-ending cycle and puts them right here where they undermine US worker’s security.
As long as you focus on the immigrants and not on why their own countries suck and who is employing them here, you will be unable to fix anything.
But hey, if cussing and squalling at Spanish and illegal immigrants gets you through the day, who am I to stand in your way.
Posted by Bango Skank on May 1, 2007 01:40 PMBenjamin Franklin: In Search of a Better World runs through May 20 at the Denver Museum of Nature & Science. It is a remarkable exhibition on one of America’s founding fathers and its foremost self-made man. On display at the museum are more than 250 artifacts, including many of Franklin’s marvelous inventions and original copies of some of our nation’s founding documents. The exhibition soon will travel overseas; the labels are in English, but there also are interactive stations that operate in English, French and Spanish. Everyone is welcome at the Museum and it is important that we communicate to our visitors in a variety of ways. Spanish-speaking families account for a significant and growing fraction of our Denver-area audience. The Museum printed a Spanish language translation of the Benjamin Franklin labels in order to provide our Spanish-speaking audience with access to the content of this important and inspirational exhibition. -- Joe Verrengia, Senior Director, Denver Museum of Nature & Science.
As are the Asian and Russian communities.....they deserve translations, too.

Posted by SCAATY on May 1, 2007 02:12 PMDon't forget Hebrew.
Posted by RickyLee on May 1, 2007 02:16 PMMr. Verringia, you are right, there is a hispanic community, but also Bietnamese, Laotion, Cambodian, Arabic, how do you justify not having anything in there language but only Spanish? If you want to be seen as equal, you better have equal languages for all, nto just Spanish. Or even French. You need to start printing it in all major languages or just accept that all need to learn a similar language.
Posted by Nick on May 1, 2007 03:58 PMJust as I have been trying to say all along, Nick.
Amen, go in Peace.
P.S. Mr. Perfect (Truth), Anderson, and Bango will now attack your use of the English language in that you hit the B instead of the V but hey, nobody is as perfect as they are.
Posted by SCAATY on May 1, 2007 04:26 PMOsama wants the brochures printed in Arabic and Pashto.
Posted by QBT on May 1, 2007 07:23 PMgood one QBT, a nice irrational argument without fact? Nice, I wonder if Ghandi would have wanted it in Hindu? Or Mother Theresa in Italian? But maybe the fact that a very violaent group like M13 would like it in Spanish is ok with you?
Posted by Nick on May 1, 2007 08:06 PMThe brochures should be in English, that's it. If you to cater to one, then you cater to all.
Posted by QBT on May 1, 2007 08:42 PMWhy Spanish and not Laotian?
Simple, money and demand.
There is no money to have the plaques in all languages, so it is done according to what the budget is and what the demographics are.
Spanish makes up the single largest minority language and thus if there is money for more than one language, then Spanish is the next one to be covered.
Laotian is way down the list because there aren’t many of them here.
Even so, there was insufficient funding for plaques in both languages, so Spanish got second best - a brochure.
Why no English brochure?
Simple, not enough money and since the plaques were already in English, so no pressing need.
Makes sense to me, Bango.
Posted by RickyLee on May 2, 2007 09:59 AMSo Bango and Ricky, just because there are not enough Laotions around, they are not worthy of recognition? So they are an ignored minority and Spanish is the only recognized? OK, nice example of selective recognition of minorities. Spanish counts but no one else does.
Posted by Nick on May 2, 2007 12:07 PMYou're all right! We should all go back to where we came from and give the Native Americans their land back. If you do decide to stick around and throw the Mexicans back, make sure you can mow your own lawn, build your own highways and dig your own ditches. Oh wait, you're too good for that...
You're too busy writing racist remarks on the internet while you should be doing your God given jobs. Be thankful for what you have!
I dont think I have said anything racist, I feel that all languages should be recognized if you want to recognize any at all. As for the land, remember that Native Americans came here via a land bridge from Asia, no human ever evolved on the western hemisphere.
Posted by Nick on May 2, 2007 12:42 PMOH Lisa, I remember when neighborhood kids used to make extra money in the summer mowing lawns. In my neighborhood people still mow their own lawns.
I remember when housewives USED to work for cleaning services full and part time in offices or anywhere and believe it or not.... they even cleaned toilets!. Those jobs are done by illegals now.
My husband dug ditches in his line of work along with his co-workers for a decent wage. Now the companys hire illegals for a slave wage.
Teenagers USED to get jobs at the fast food outlets and would work any shift!
Illegals have taken all of those jobs haven't they?
College students USED to get jobs during their fall, summer, winter, and spring breaks doing the grunt work on construction sites.
American's CAN and WILL do these jobs, but I guess you Mexican's don't care about that do you? You are so busy undercutting American workers so, you use the "lazy American" excuse. How do you know American's won't do these jobs?
American's... red, black, brown and white made this country the greatest country in the world Mexican's didn't!!!!!!!
Only the greedy corporations and businesses want Mexican's here in America. From the information I have read and see (The middle class American worker's sure don't want you here!) I am going to laugh my self silly if you get the Amnesty you have NOT earned. Then when you demand higher wages for your sloppy work, the corporations and businesses will turn on you and tell you to get lost just like they have done to their fellow countrymen. You want to call people like me a racist that's A-OK with me. It's just your lame excuse for breaking the U.S. laws.
"We will just call them racists oooo that'll fix those lazy, rich gringos."
I have small acreage property Lisa, and I mow my own land, dig my own trenches when needed, and do all the crap you say Americans won't do, and I'm a middle aged white boy to boot.
So don't tell me Americans won't do dirty jobs.
