Iraq war
This letter has not been edited.
Why do you hate the troops and america?
Posted by on April 3, 2007 05:55 PMSo after we surrender to the terrorists and retreat - then what?
Posted by jim j on April 3, 2007 06:50 PMHow about we leave federal policy to the federal government, and state policy to the state government. I'm so glad our state politicians are wasting my tax money on this crap, instead of focusing on important state issues, like massive illegal immigration and atrocious roads.
Posted by on April 3, 2007 06:59 PMIt seems Mr Neil believes Islamofacists are just misunderstood , swell guys that pose no real threat. Maybe he will be lucky enough to not be one of the millions of Americans who will parish when attacks start here - thanks to Neil and his disgusting ,defeatist ilk .
Posted by REALLY? on April 3, 2007 07:23 PM05:55 wants to know why 70% of Americans hate Bush. Maybe it's because they are just a group of fringe extremists.
Posted by on April 3, 2007 07:36 PMMr. Neil, I presume that when you wrote your letter you were aware of people like REALLY who are simply unable to engage in intelligent discourse. Rather than condemn people like that, we should pity them.

Who exactly are the terrorists? The Shiites? The Sunnis? Our troops are being killed by factions of both religious sects. I certainly do not hate the troops or America, and to the anonymous writer please capitilize the name of our great country when you use it. My nephew recently returned from Iraq, he is a brave American soldier who does not question orders and who also shares with his family the reservations he has having been on the ground. Why does anyone believe that questioning our role in the Iraq war makes us un-American? These are the same people who wanted to throw Clinton out when he went into the Balkans. You cant have it both ways, you cant support the President blindly when he represents your party, then bash him when he doesnt. We live in America, we have the right of dissent and the right to espress our opinions. If you dont believe that, then you are very much un-American.
I'm surprised the RMN doesn't edit letters that refer to Coloradans as "Coloradoans".
Posted by John II on April 3, 2007 09:07 PMPeople like you need to be keel-hauled. If you hate this country so much, why do you not move to Iran, then you'd be in good company.
Posted by Tim on April 3, 2007 09:41 PMI thought REALLY made an excellent ,intelligent point that you ignored. It is you that should be pitied.
Posted by PITY 07:45PM on April 3, 2007 09:52 PMMr. Hart,
Both the Shia and the Sunni extremists engage in terrorism.
What is your point?
Posted by jim j on April 3, 2007 09:57 PMTim-
Were you speaking to the original writer or to me? I never hide behind screen names or present pyself as anything other than what I am, a patriot, a person who believes in free speech, open dissent and the right of every individual to express their opinion and voice. I do not believe that intelligent free speech includes name-calling and the suggestion that a free thinking American should move out of the country. If the truth be known, the people of Iran have a very similar opinion of their government as the majority of Americans have. We disagree with our governement and we believe that the people of each others countries are good and honest people. I think the governmetn of Iran is dangerous and should be held accountable for their actions, just as I believe that our current executive branch should be held accountable for their conduct. The fight against terror is real and will continue to be a very serious issue, I wish the Bush administration woudl be realistic about it and pursue those people that perpetrated the acts of 9/11, it was not the Iraqi's. It was the radical elements of the Saudi fringe. We must be realistic, not jingo-istic.

John II- It really irks me that people refer to us as "americans" we do a disservice to ourselves when we do not emphasize the importance of certain designations. I respect the office of the President very much, I do not respect the individual that resides in that office, but the office deserves our respect. As does the distinction as us being Americans.
Posted by Jim Hart on April 3, 2007 10:06 PMjim]-
My point is that we set out to topple a regime that supported terrorism, we used 9/11 and WMD as the reason, neither of which is now true. What is the point of the excersise at this point? We are caught in between warring Islamic factions. Which side are we on?
To All-
I agree with the premise of the original letter as I read it. I despise the use of appropirations bills with add-ons, earmarks, and other non-necessary items. I believe that the Iraq war should have always been "on the books". I believe that the Social Security dollars should be kept seperate from the nations budget process, and I believe that almost all pork spending is criminal. Yet I am usually accused of being an anti-American liberal. I want transparency in government and I want real debate before we take action like we have taken in Iraq. I disagreed with Clinton on the Balkans, I disagree with Bush on Iraq. I believe that we MUST be aggresive in terms of attacking terrorists abroad. I must be one of those crazy liberals. I am not a party loyalist, and I think anyone who puts party before country is a traitor, on either side of the equation. I am happy that we are free to have this debate in an open forum.
God Bless America
Posted by Jim Hart on April 3, 2007 10:26 PMMr. Hart,
Muslim terrorists have attacked the innocent in Indodesia, Nigeria, India, Spain, England and the United State. This is not a war beetween Shia and Sunni. It is a battle between religious fanatics and decent people.
Whatever you think of the reasons for invading Iraq; the purpose of the exercise now is to foster a pluarilistic government that will reject terrorism. If we succeed, then we will be safer.
He does.
Posted by jim j on April 3, 2007 11:28 PMAll sides seem to agree that the outcome depends largely on whether the Iraqi government will "step up to the plate". I think there is much to be said for the argument that we put more pressure on that government to do that by setting deadlines than by being open-ended.
Posted by Truth on April 4, 2007 05:57 AMAs A Marine who has served in Iraq I cant say im relly for or against a time table. But if we do leave and as some say the war is not winnable then I must assume that we lost. Im not sure what the consequences of that loss are. Do we sue for peace against our enemies? Do we remove our government and put in place one that is more acceptable to our enemies? Will we be forced to convert to Islam? We havent won a war since World War 2 and we have been lucky not to have to surrender to terms. It will happen one day.
Posted by Rich M on April 4, 2007 09:41 AMWe also have a family member in the armed services and that family member says this: The enemy hates America with a passion, they will stop at nothing to either convert us to Islam or not suceeding in that they will kill us. We are (at this point anyway) free in this country to bash Bush, the US and whatever we feel like bashing. Our enemies absolutely love all this bashing among our selves and they gain strength from it. When people like the Dixie Chicks, Sean Penn, Harry Belfonte etc go to other countries and bash the president, (who was elected by the majority of the people in the last election) that sure makes our country stand united against our enemies doesn't it? The hate is so bad for Bush that the left blindly does anything that they think might make him look bad. That is so wrong!! Our troops hear what is going on and feel like Americans don't support them. The Bush haters don't care how our troops feel. It is looking better in Iraq now but the Dems are trying to cut off the money and as we tell them exactly when we are leaving the Iranians are planning to take over and claim victory!!! I hope the elitest left will rejoice in our loss. I was a lifelong Democrat until a couple of weeks ago when I decided Democrats are disgusting and have no love for this country or the people who have died for our rights. I am now an Independant and feel much better about myslef that I am no longer in a party that wants to give our country to whomever is strong enough to take it. If fighting for separation of Hollywood and state was as strong as the fight for separation of church and state we would have a chance.

Thanks for leaving. We don't need folks like you who have no regard for truth. People who say things like this:
"I decided Democrats are disgusting and have no love for this country or the people who have died for our rights."
really need mental counseling. Good luck with yours. It's amazing how the most hateful people are the ones that accuse others of hate.
Posted by on April 4, 2007 08:54 PMRight on! Anonymous 1:17 PM
The radical left with their PC and their clueless entertainment clones, are disgusting.
The terrorists are totally in love with the naive Democrats. Hmmm, wonder why?
A set timetable is a recipe for disaster and the Dems know it. They just want the U.S. to look defeated and foolish, so they can say they were "right "all along. What a bunch of un-American cut and run poliiticians the Dems are.
Let the soldiers have their last chance in Iraq. They deserve it!!
I will vote Independent also. I can't stand either party!
Posted by ME on April 5, 2007 08:39 AMTimetable is imposed on GW is mandatory if the will of the people is to prevail. Nancy Pelosi attempts to do the will of "We The People" evidenced by GW's loss of Congress; how can you villify her; whereas King George attempts his own will. Diplomacy worked with the release of the Brits by Iran: this is bad news for "Shrub" says this Independent who would vote for Giuliani. Pelosi is helping the Republicans because if the war is not over, they will lose all their seats in Congress. r22037yahoo
