Al Gore
She says that he’s offsetting his energy usage by “investing directly in renewable energy sources".
It isn’t so much about Gore’s energy usage, per se. It’s that while he’s doing things like using 20 times more electricity than average and flying around the world in a private jet when commercial would do, he’s scolding the rest of us for living too large and saying that we’re the ones who need to cut back. Furthermore, his so-called “offsets” don’t actually offset any carbon emissions at all. While his installing solar panels at his 10,000 sq. ft. mansion may be good to do, they don’t make up for his energy usage elsewhere, and they don’t absorb carbon.
As to the statement that “Gore has done more to save and conserve than any other prominent person during this decade", I can think of someone else. According to www.snopes.com, this person’s 4,000 sq. ft. house uses no fossil fuels at all and consumes only 1/4 of the electricity of the average household. That house belongs to George W. Bush at his ranch in Crawford, Texas.

Get real Dave, if Gore had been president Colorado wouldn't be having these sunny warm days any more. I'm sure the earth’s temperature would be at least a few degrees cooler since he's such a terrific scientist.
Sorry, but I can't do this. I just can't believe people really think we're going to drop the earth’s temperature when weather forecasters can't even accurately predict tomorrow’s weather. And what happens if we accidentally drop the temp too much? Cold is much deadlier than heat. Why do you think people retire to Florida? Since Gore says people have caused global warming I’d love to hear what he thinks has caused the temperature of Mars to rise one degree just since the 70s.
Glen Beck’s TV show in about a hour is supposed to be about the cases against global warming. That should be interesting!
Posted by Glen on May 2, 2007 06:07 PMGlen
It should be a big lie and smear fest.
Posted by on May 2, 2007 06:20 PMSorry, but I can't do this. I just can't believe humans are ruining this beautiful planet with their gluttony and wanton disregard for the environment. I personally believe in consuming as much as possible because I don't believe in leaving anything to future generations. I am the face of the Republican Party. The party of greed and gluttony.
Posted by GetReal on May 2, 2007 06:03 PM
I clarified your typos dude. Isn't that what you really wanted to say. "Screw the envrionment. Screw conservation. We'll take care of nature the same we've taken care of Iraq".
I guess I'm not buying your Do Nothing BS either.
Posted by Wes on May 2, 2007 06:38 PMYep Wes, you're a dumocrate all right. Obviously you can't read either. I never said "screw the environment." That was you!
I just don't believe people can lower the earth’s temperature. But idiots like you obviously do and will follow Gore with your slobbery tongues hanging out while Gore just laughs, climbs into his jet and goes back to his 221,000 kWh devouring house in Tennessee. You’re fearless leader’s average monthly electric bills top $1,300. And his gas bills average $1,080 per month. But don’t worry genius’s like you think he’s just a prince because he buys his carbon offsets, through his own company. So yeah Wes, go ahead and send your money to Gore for your very own carbon offsets and help lower the earth’s temperature. Help freeze the elderly since chump’s like you think Gore’s scam is much more important that fighting terrorism.
To 6:20 PM here is a fact for you to chew on. Gore's basis that people are causing global warming is that CO2 causes temperature to rise. It's exactly the opposite. Temperature changes CO2. Temperature goes up, CO2 goes up. That blows Gore’s whole premise.
Posted by Glen on May 2, 2007 07:47 PMOK Guys.
How many of you have actually SEEN Al Gore's movie ?
And can we just get something basic right ? Mr Getreal:
The earth's atmosphere is a giant thermodynamic machine.
So an increase in temperature isn't necessarily going to mean
record high temps everywhere nor will cooling cause the opposite.
What it does mean is that we get extremes in weather. Like a new ice age across Europe, for instance.
If you want us to believe that Al Gores voluminous research is worthless, you should at least be able to demonstrate a basic grasp of the facts. Haven't seen it yet...
What part of this basic fact don't you understand: As temperature goes up, CO2 goes up. Not the other way around as Gore presents it with his temp/CO2 graph.
Posted by Glen on May 2, 2007 08:46 PMHere is a basic fact for you Monte:
Every day the temperature can go up 20-40 degrees in just a few hours. It's caused by the sun, not people. And that's a fact.
Temp can go up but CO2 is solid, gas combination that doesn`t rise or fall, but expands or contracts. Do you mean the amount of CO2 goes up? I think we need a chemist here.
That 20-40 degree rise always drops, but CO2 and other greenhouse gasses can keep in the suns heat and raise temps.
I believe that is where the CO2/temp combo comes in.
Posted by Sharon B. on May 2, 2007 09:59 PMAl Gore and his, They Sky Is Falling!!!, entourage are full of crap. The Earth is in a natural cycle, remember the ice age?How did all that ice melt?
What we do need to do is start dealing with trash and doing small things to conserve energy. We also need to find alternative fuels, not because of global warming, because we need to get off the Middle East nipple.Al Gore and the global warming nutjobs are making money spreading false information. There are things we can do to make our space on earth cleaner and more efficient, but we are not in a crisis. Twenty years from now I wonder what the new buzz word will be?
Sharon,
My advice is - give it up - you really can't explain anything to mouth-breathers who can't understand science and prefer religious mythology, anyway. I mean, when you consider that their "leader' can't string 2 intelligible sentences together and has the IQ of a jar of olives, you know it's an uphill struggle. Oh, and they think Bill O'Reilly is a visionary and bass fishing is a spectator sport - scary. So if you're explaining science, you may as well tell the cat - it's friendlier and probably has a better grasp of things.
Posted by Drew on May 3, 2007 07:25 AMAh yes, poor Drew, instead of addressing the fact that as temperature goes up and is FOLLOWED by CO2 later going up, you’d rather coddle Sharon since you have no facts yourself. Or the glaring fact that as the sun comes up every day, it increases the temperature 20-40+ degrees in a matter of hours. No human cause there, just plain old solar heat. Drew, you really need to set your liberal emotions aside and look at the facts.
http://stuartbuck.blogspot.com/2007/04/global-warming.html
One such paper is Manfred Mudelsee, "The phase relations among atmospheric CO2 content, temperature and global ice volume over the past 420 ka," Quaternary Science Reviews 20 (2001): 583-589. His finding is that over the past 420,000 years -- according to the Vostok ice core -- "CO2 variations lag behind atmospheric temperature changes in the Southern Hemisphere by 1.3 [plus or minus] 1.0 ka." ("Ka" means a thousand years.) So, temperature goes up, and CO2 goes up 300 to 2300 years later. Temperature starts to go down, and CO2 goes down 300 to 2300 years later.
I don't really have an argument. I could be like Wes and rewrite someones post and then argue the opinion is that of a moron.
Instead I like Drew's methods. Call everyone who doesn't agree with me stupid and tell them to quit watching OReilly so much. Musn't forget to throw in the Faux News smear as well.
Now I look sooooooo smart! Smirk, smirk!!
Posted by Typical liberal on May 3, 2007 09:12 AMNo, Typical Liberal, you're wrong - I don't call everyone who doesn't agree with me stupid. I disagree with fellow liberals on some issues. I call you right wingnuts stupid - and the proof is in your inane postings for all to see. Smirk, smirk, smirk.
And GetReal - who is Mannie Muddlemind anyway and what are his credentials? Is he one of your prize scientists from Jerry Falwell's "University." But bravo with your hypothesis that the sun causes the temperature to increase during the day. Jerry's scientists must be working overtime!
Posted by Drew on May 3, 2007 09:25 AMDrew, thank you for another of your typically thoughtful posts. I never realized that gross generalizations were such an effective tool for viewing the world. And bold, baseless character assassination! Do you work for the New Yorker?
Posted by on May 3, 2007 09:38 AMHey Shorty,Get me a drink and fired up my jet.I think these people are catching on to us.Boss, catching on to you,I'm have not been lieing like you.And get your own drink you fat slob.
Posted by Al Gore on May 3, 2007 09:51 AMHey "Clueless"-is that you?
"gross generalizations" and "bold, baseless character assassination" - now why does that ring a bell? Oh, of course, it started with the Gingrich Revolution - and was used so effectively to smear the Clintons, Al Gore and others. Well, guess I got my training from the best in the business!
And no, I don't work for the New Yorker - do you work for Fox News?
Posted by Drew on May 3, 2007 09:57 AMDrew,"I don't call everyone who doesn't agree with me stupid"
Let us review a few of your posts from today, Drew my boy:
And if you're going to post on this site at least give yourself a name - "Clueless" has a nice ring to it.Posted by Drew on May 3, 2007 07:41 AM
I've told you, you're not smart enough to post and watch Hee-Haw at the same time!

the work of my friend's 9 year old would look polished next to some of the incomprehensible rantings of the wingnuts on this site.

Posted by Drew on May 3, 2007 10:29 AMPost by Al Gore must be Keith.

Posted by on May 3, 2007 10:48 AMGlen. From MM
"Beck has repeatedly advanced falsehoods related to global climate change, cited debunked scientists to support his doubts that "we're causing" global warming, and regularly attacked Gore."
Posted by on May 3, 2007 10:53 AMAn aside to Drew re: BillO, I have started a pool on when he will lose it, either on the show or when running down a reporter in a parking lot, as he did in Denver. He and Geraldo almost came to blows.
August 8, 2007 is my pool date.
Posted by Sharon B. on May 3, 2007 11:11 AMSharon - agreed - it'll be soon. BillO is a classic bully who likes to invite people inexperienced on the radio onto his show and then shouts them down and browbeats them. But have you also noticed when he has someone like Bill Maher on who doesn't put up with his crap that he just quietly slinks away?
Posted by Drew on May 3, 2007 11:17 AMI saw the Bill Maher interview Drew. You to should have watched it too so you could talk about it with some knowledge. It was a calm and fair exchange. OReilly let him speak his views so the audience could judge for themselves.
Do you agree with Bill Maher and his ideology?
Posted by KW on May 3, 2007 11:25 AMHere is a basic fact for you Monte:
Every day the temperature can go up 20-40 degrees in just a few hours. It's caused by the sun, not people. And that's a fact.

THATS RIGHT!! Very good.
Now, go get a basic textbook on meteorology or astronomy, and read further into this process, you will then learn something about" The Greenhouse Effect", why its a good thing, and also why too much of it will be a very bad thing.
Posted by Monte on May 3, 2007 11:37 AMYes - I saw it, actually - and thanks, you make my point for me.
I agree - O'reilly let him "speak his views" - exactly so - because when BillO is confronted by someone who doesn't put up with his crap, he doesn't try his crap - classic bully. But then if you actually read my post above you may have gleaned this without me having to explain it to you again, KW. And since you ask, I think Bill Maher & his ideology are terrific. Try watching his show - you could learn a lot.
Posted by Drew on May 3, 2007 11:43 AMThis thread makes as much sense as Bill Maher.
Help me... I'm melting....gobal warming... and soylent green is people...
Posted by WickedWitch on May 3, 2007 12:25 PM"And since you ask, I think Bill Maher & his ideology are terrific. Try watching his show - you could learn a lot."
That's rich, right after bashing O'Reilly, you cite the leftist equivalent of O'Reilly as terrific. How do those tinted glasses feel?
Posted by on May 3, 2007 12:25 PM"I think Bill Maher & his ideology are terrific"
Drew - you are a true liberal with no shame.
You do know why OReilly was letting Maher speak his mind don't you? It was because he wanted the audience to hear what goes on in Mahers mind. Get it?
Posted by KW on May 3, 2007 12:31 PM"Wanted the audience to hear what goes on in Maher's mind" - the only thing that BillO wants to hear is the sound of BillO's voice - but apparently you're an expert on the wily strategy of old BillO, eh KW?
And as a liberal why wouldn't I like Bill Maher? I like Keith Olbermann too - Oh, my God, stop the presses! Next thing you Wingnuts are going to be disavowing Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity? Sheesh..at least be honest enough to admit to your ideological leanings!
Posted by Drew on May 3, 2007 12:43 PMSo Drew, you get you news from Bill Maher on Real Time? You can't be serious, can you?
Here's Bill Maher, giving his opinion about Alec Baldwins rant to his daughter: "You know what, I think he’s going to be a hero for this."
Posted by KW on May 3, 2007 01:03 PMdrew, explains why you are such an idiot.
Posted by Keith on May 3, 2007 01:06 PMGet Real-
Although I agree with your posts you need to find another nic.
I've been posting under GET REAL for months.
No offense intended.
Thanks-
Posted by GET REAL on May 3, 2007 01:22 PMNews? No, KW you're obviously not aware that Bill Maher's show is an entertainment program, not a "news" program - and I find it enormously entertaining when Mr Maher deflates right-wing blowhards - which isn't really that difficult. Although he still indulges Ann Coulter too much.
Although if real time was a "news" program it would still be a lot more credible than Faux News. My news I get from many sources - like CNN, MSNBC, NY Times, BBC, NPR, MSN, local papers, etc. Write some of these down, KW, it might help you get some real news - instead of Fox. Oh, and when I need a laugh, I turn on O'Reilly or Hannity.
And for someone who avoids Bill Maher, you sure seem to know a lot about his show, KW.
Oh, and hey Keith! You didn't post twice so your shakes must've died down.
Posted by Drew on May 3, 2007 01:31 PMSorry GET REAL. Good sign.
Posted by GollyGee on May 3, 2007 01:38 PM"CNN, MSNBC, NY Times, BBC, NPR"
Drew - Do you consider these sources unbiased?
Posted by on May 3, 2007 01:40 PMAll news orgs have their biases but these have about as good a reputation as any. If you have alternatives, let me hear them
Posted by Drew on May 3, 2007 01:53 PMI'll give you that one Drew. All those examples you gave do have the same reputation.
