Controversial panel forgot the jail part
There’s plenty of controversy over of the panel discussion at Boulder High (“Organizers defend sex talk at Boulder High,” May 16), particularly the sex aspects, various conflicting moral views, etc., but I have a different question.
A psychologist on the panel said, “I’m going to encourage you to use drugs appropriately. And why I am going to take that position is because you’re going to do it anyway.” Does the panel and the school board have the blessing of Boulder’s (and all neighboring communities’) police departments? Because no matter the context of that statement (and others encouraging drinking), drug use and underage drinking remain illegal.
I can’t believe the superintendent or anyone else is attempting to defend that. Next year, the panel might as well add, “Go ahead, because we know you’re going to end up in jail anyway. Tell your parents to wait by the phone with bail and an attorney.”

Hey whats wrong with being taught to be responsible?! I believe in making an informed decision. Would you rather we hide our heads in the sand?, and pretend it will all go away if it is just ignored?
Do you believe that ALL drinkers are alcoholics, or irresponsible with their drinking? Whats wrong with being taught to be resposible in regards to drugs. People are and will use drugs, drink, and have sex, so being informed about the consequences of your choices may very well be a good start.
Pretty good letter, Mark. Here's the punch line: The same three kooks who talked to the students have been invited back for next year's assembly! Clearly Boulder High School administrators just do not get it.
Posted by Pat on May 31, 2007 07:05 AMSince the silence is deafening from the parents of the children at Boulder High, one can only conclude that they thought the assembly was appropiate.
So lets all sit back and watch some Boulderites kill themselves and others.
Let's sit back and watch them start spreading STD's around.Let's sit back and watch the teen birth rate go up.
Let's watch the parents dump alot of money into a college education that goes nowhere.
Let's sit and watch more drinking deaths at the colleges.
When the parents start losing the hopes and dreams of their children because of their silence,They only have themselves as pitiful parents to blame.
If you are a parent it is your duty to stand against this type of liberal garbage , not to mention illegal garbage being taught to your children.
So when the the elitist Boulderites children ,kill themselves, become drug addicted, alcohol addicted, pregnant, kill themselves driving while high or drunk, come down with a STD,( yes Boulder AIDS is still out there)flunk out of school or college,or kill someone while driving impaired, you will get no sympathy from me.
You make your bed you lie in it.You reap what you sow.
Anyone out there that doesn't live in Boulder or has children that have not gone to Boulder High and loses a loved one because of a school that allows people to teach horrible behavior, you can sue the parents, the school district,CU who put together the panel, and the panel of idiots when they have given permission to do illegal behavior and someone is going to end up killed.
Not only is the silence deafening in Boulder and most of the Media in Colorado, the school has invited the panel back next year.Only this time the program will be optional instead of mandatory.
Parents and the school system in Boulder are ????????????
They are so outrageous I can't find the words to describe them.
Posted by Can I get an AMEN! on May 31, 2007 07:26 AMLookin-out says that people will use drugs, have teenage sex, and drink while underage, so we should just accept it and preach doing things responsibly.
Kids will drop out of school. Should we concentrate on teaching them to do it responsibly? Should we teach children to run away from home responsibly? Should we teach teenagers to be responsible prostitutes?
Or should we teach them the difference between right and wrong?

Posted by Can I get an AMEN! on May 31, 2007 09:57 AMMark, Thank you for duscussing how our society has become a machine to encourage everyone to hurry and get to jail, expand the prisons, create a slave work force. 6% of the worlds pop in America and 25% of the worlds prisons. Looks to me like hitler found a new home right here in our country!

The advice came from a "psychologist". That should say it all. They are crazier than any of their clients but they believe they have the greater wisdom.

The parents of the Boulder High teens haven't re-acted because they are out having un-safe sex,and doing drugs themselves!!
