Drug prices

John Ruckman of Lakewood writes:

I am at a loss as to why the GOP at all levels is blocking the right of groups to negotiate prices for prescription drugs with drug companies. Isn’t this the basis of free enterprise?
There is no objective reason for their cantankerous stand. The only possible reason has tobe that too many in the Republican Party, including those in the White House, have been too well cared for by the drug industry lobby over the past few years. This is a sad commentary on the state of politics in America today.
Since Bush has taken over the executive branch, sensible and pragmatic thinking and policy has virtually disappeared from Washington. This, of course, is wonderful for big business, but becomes more harmingful each day for consumers, who have to pay the freight for all this holding down of wages down, giving huge tax cuts to the well-to-do and changing our laws to always favor business, all the while allowing the bigs to reap millions and live the good life.
This kind of biased and undemocratic behavior has to be stopped if this country is to remain a bastion of democracy and fairness. That can never happen until the White House is cleaned out and scrubbed with the changes that an honest and fair administration will again bring us, including restoring all our constitutional rights and passing laws that are equitable for all of us.
