Escapism welcome
Paul Farhi of The Washington Post (Hot Topic, April 18) with more than a little self-righteous moralizing, seems to feel that the nation’s most popular TV networks should cancel their prime-time “escapism” shows every time another horror story erupts in our country and replace them, instead, with mind- and soul-numbing repetitious news reports of what is already being more than adequately covered by the news media in every other format known to man, including commercial TV.
As for me, I am not only grateful for the “escapism” commercial TV networks opt to show, regardless of their monetary motives for doing so, but that I live in a country that allows me this option. I would assume Farhi has the same choice?

How the TV media is doing requires a comment about the two CSPAN networks which are not government sponsored but are brought to us by the cable/satellite industry. In depth programming which air all sides of issues commercial free. Great!
