GOP setting up its own crucifixion
Let Alberto Gonzales stay on as U.S. attorney general and make a mockery of his office, even if about the only thing he could remember in Senate testimony was his name. Let Paul Wolfowitz stay at the World Bank, an example for the World of American cronyism and lack of scruples. Let the president veto the Iraq funding bill.
Republicans already own the war, started on manufactured evidence to fit their purposes. Veto the funding bill and the president and Republicans will own it twice over. Things like this will be the cross on which Republicans will be crucified in the next election.
Loyalty might be nice, but a country doesn’t run well on ineptness, stubbornness and cronyism. Is it too much to hope that the next administration will have great competency, ethics, common sense, and no wars?
Mark Dunn, Golden
very nice far left socalist liberal rant.
sorry but there is not a political party out there that will do anything for the people of the country but it will be all about them and their party. also by ethics do you mean no more blue dresses, going to court to have the word 'is' defined, or blowing up a religiuos compond in Texas?
"very nice far left socalist liberal rant."
Calling things "far left" and "socialist" does not a refutation make.
Posted by Charles B on May 8, 2007 07:47 AMGreat competency? Does it have to be great? At this point, I'd happily settle for simply competent--seems like we haven't had that in decades. It's almost like a couple of families have been running this country (and not very well) for the last 20 years. Oh, wait...
Posted by shaupeen on May 8, 2007 08:07 AMReminds me of an old joke--why do we pick our president from only two candidates, but we have 50 contestants in the miss america pageant?
Posted by shaupeen on May 8, 2007 08:17 AMMark,
Just give up. The GOP are masters of spin. They unsuccessfully impeach Bill Clinton for cheating on his wife (and fibbing to Congress about it) but they won't do a thing to stop George W. Bush from issuing hundreds of signing statements, making himself and his cohorts exempt from the very laws they were elected to uphold.
The Patriot Act, warrantless wiretaps, the repeal of Habeus Corpus for Guantanamo detainees, water-boarding prisoners, the firing of attorneys who prosecute Republican criminals -- the list goes on and on. Bush has zero respect for the Constitution and the laws of the land. And millions of Republican sheep blindly support his every whim.
Bush reminds me a bit of Adolph Hitler -- a charismatic but misguided leader, loved and adored by his equally misguided followers.
Posted by And Another Thing on May 8, 2007 08:23 AMGood riddance to the GOP
Posted by Comment on May 8, 2007 08:26 AMIs it facism yet?
Posted by on May 8, 2007 09:00 AMLike I always say, let the GOP keep winning elections until it gets REALLY bad in this country. Only then will we see politicians from the left, like Dennis Kucinich, who truly represent real progressive change (not fakers like Hillary) get elected.
Because liberals who keep electing the Republican Lite candidates are getting the government they deserve, too.
Posted by mytwosense on May 8, 2007 09:06 AMUpside is a democratic president & congress for the forseable future - downside is it'll take 15 years to clean up the mess - especially Iraq - left by Bush & his bumbling, corrupt cronies. But Bush doesn't care - he'll be in Crawford cutting brush, eating pork rinds & napping - oh, just like his presidency!
Posted by Drew on May 8, 2007 09:29 AMKeith's been cruising Capitol Hill again in his high heels & purse.
Posted by Drew on May 8, 2007 09:43 AMKeith,
Are you making a joke? I can't believe that you seriously believe this stuff?! If I remember, Clinton specifically warned Bush & co about Al Qaeda & planes flying into buildings and the action Bush took was the same as the action he took for New Orleans - zip.
Posted by Drew on May 8, 2007 10:14 AMI get it now!!!
Keith - nice work on the satire. It took me a week or two to get it, but now its hilarious. I love satire!
Especially the part about "Bush has made this country so much safer and gave us a great economy" - republics love to talk about that stuff, even though terrorist attacks were up 40% last year and job growth is the worst its been since Herbert Hoover, over 70 years ago.
Even the way you write your posts in mangled english and broken, run-on indecipherable sentences. Just like a raving bushite! Its funny how republics think english should be our national language, yet they can barely speak or type it. Thanks for pointing that out in your razor-sharp satire, keith.
You're giving Colbert a run for his money, man. Keep it up with the great satire - this country could use a few more laughs in these trying times.
Posted by Tbone on May 8, 2007 10:52 AMI am the one who figured out Keith is a put on. He slipped up and had a rational post for me. I told him he was a freeking phony.
Child left behind is clever.
Posted by Sharon B. on May 8, 2007 11:09 AMI always thought Keith made his school lunch money working for that guy Rove, who runs the rest of the White House that Cheney can't.

Posted by on May 8, 2007 11:24 AMI can almost agree with Mark Dunn. His misuse of "common sense" which is simply a collection of a person's bias and prejudices and "no wars," is erroneous.
War is inevitable because of the inherent hatred humans have for each other especially if skin color is a factor. "Competency" and "ethics" are a remote possibility hence on the horizon probably like heaven beyond the reach of man. The only certainty we have is Keith to supply us with most needed levity.
Keep me informed Keith; I respect your opinion which has a dual purpose by inviting jestful response. Don't weaken, my boy.
May its (GOP) crucifixion occur before it has an opportunity to appoint the 6th Catholic to the Bench aka Creationist, or Intelligent Design Christ Arisen to continue its plague upon humanity.
Posted by Richard Grimes r22037@yahoo.com on May 8, 2007 11:27 AMKeith has a real thing for dresses & high heels - do you think he's really Guckert, that guy who secretly used to visit Carl Rove at the White House?
Posted by Drew on May 8, 2007 11:30 AMThe G.O.P. has managed to get one thing right; they always claim that government is unable to govern and once in power, they prove exactly that. I guess I can be happy that Bush is President for one reason, he has made the Republican Party mostly unelectable outside a few highly conservative regions. So keep on doing what you are doing Bushietes, and one day the Republican Party will take its well-earned place together with the Whig Party and the Bull-Moose Party in American history books.
Posted by Sean on May 8, 2007 01:08 PMSean, to make the Republican party history, an alternative right-wing group will have to rise.
My guess they will do it on the same old stuff:
- Patriotism (read Nationalism)
- Christian fundamentalism
- Gun rights
- Anti gay marriage
- Anti abortion
The only other way is to split the right wing plutocrats from the right wing evangelists, not sure how that would be done.
Sean,
Unfortunately, it is the sad irony of your examples that it was the Bull Moose Party that was lost, in favor of the oligarchical Republicans who went on to give us, among other things, the Great Depression of 1929, Hoovervilles, Richard Nixon, Joe Mc Carthy, Trickle Down (Voodoo) Economics, and now this sprig off the Bush.
Posted by Old Grouch on May 8, 2007 02:09 PMOG - I could give you a real pretty list of failed policies and congressional corruption from the dems over the last few decades as well. But I'm fairly certain you don't want to there.
Posted by KW on May 8, 2007 02:28 PMI think the leter writer wanted to use the words crucifixion and Republicans in the same sentance to set off the Christians.
I do see the Repubs as my enemy and the best way to defeat an enemy is to give them their way long enough, so that they do themselves great harm.
Then they go down in flames. I just never thought the Repubs could do so much harm to others on their way down. But then I never voted for them.
Posted by Sharon B. on May 8, 2007 08:15 PMKW,
Of course. No argument. All politics is largely a matter of "trial and error" at root. I was responding to an historical example, where I believe the better of two potentials got lost in the shuffle at the time.
Posted by Old Grouch on May 9, 2007 09:01 AMOf all the comments, I enjoy Sharon B. the most: I have embraced her Risen Ape sentiment and David at the Chess table likes it so much he adopts it. The Risen Christ group gave us disaster in Iraq and a culture of corruption. May they burn in fiction hell since the pope abolished the concept in 2002.
