Hard to stop a war
Monday, May 21 at 12:01 AM

Many lives have been lost because of false information on the Iraq situation. Bring our fighting men and women home and let’s not be afraid to admit we made a mistake. Easy to start a war, but difficult to stop it.

William H. Greene, Denver

NO...let's leave them there and just quit all the politics. Let them do their jo...killing...without fear of getting court martialed. THEN...we can bring them home..to their country that doesn't support them.

My objection to William's letter is his use of the pronoun "We" that includes me in Bush's mistake. Like Obama, I was against the war before invasion evidenced by the sign I carried: Don't Attack Iraq. Minimal lack of comment generates some pot pourri, to wit:

Isn't it wonderful for the deadly arson at the Mother Cabrini Shrine where Jesus, fed up with his erroneous likeness, hurled a lightning bolt at a statue of himself. God works in mysterious ways. Sometimes he hurls at churches and burns them to the ground begging the question should insurance companies have to pay for godly arson? May all statutes suffer the same fate for not comporting with a more accurate picture of Jesus, his mother, his apostles, all from an Ethiopean country. Recently the Catholic Church, sanctuary for illegal immigrants, approved a painting of Jesus in which a black woman was portrayed.

The armless statue of Mary is an image straight out of John Irving's Prayer for Owen Meany.

Once again the left is on fire. First CONGRESS authorized the military action in Iraq and if you'll read it, you'll find that fighting Al Qaeda there was included in that Act. War plans all change when the enemy gets involved and that's exactly where we are today. Hey lefty, how about instead of running away, or limiting what our boys can do over there...why don't we let our troops pre-emptively shoot bad guys? The war in Iraq may not be the most pleasant, nor did our president enjoy making the decision that he knew risked the lives of our soldiers, but, it is a necessary evil when you consider the alternative. Muslim terrorism must not be allowed to spread and fighting them there, rather than in downtown Chicago, makes more sense to me. You believe we shouldn't be there...in one aspect I agree, we shouldn't have to deal with Islamic terrorists, who use suicide bombers and want to destroy us..but, they do want us dead and we must be there until such time as we remove the threat. Contrary to your beloved "monkey on a string" democrats, GW does what he belives is right for the country...unlike your dems who only want to do what's right for the polls. If you had an ounce of patriotism you would get behind our boys and hope and pray that we can wipe out this enemy over there...and enjoy living here wihtout buildings blowing up. See the terrorists don't fight soldiers, the blow up innocent unarmed people, and supporting a surrender supports them and shows them that behavior works. Our president understands this and if the democrats and liberals would get that through their "idealistic" skull, we'd be much more cohesive here and better off in the long run.
