Hispanics in World War II
This letter has not been edited.
"Why do Hispanics think they should be singled out?"
When have they done anything else?
Posted by No use on May 7, 2007 12:29 PMBecause the "honrable" Mr. Salazar and others consider themselves the only people worthy of recognition. They are the ONLY group to fit a perfect percentage to get such recognition. Never mind the "Red Ball Express" or the Tuskagee Airmen, or the most highly decorated unit in all of Europe, made up of Japanese Americans. Salazar will not recognize them for they are not what he considers worthy.
Posted by Nick on May 7, 2007 12:50 PMSalazar would be nothing more than a snot nosed kid during WW2 if he was alive then.
Not much for him to do that would heroic other than kill imaginary Americans with the barrio brats he grew up with.
Posted by QBT on May 7, 2007 01:08 PMColorado residents elected him, big mistake on your part. Next time choose a Senator that will stand for the US Citizens of Colorado and not for all the illegal aliens that demand special entitlement because of their heritage. All Service men and women should be recognized for their service in protection they have fought for us, not because they are a certain race, etc.

"Could I ask why Sen. Salazar and other Hispanics think that they deserve special recognition for WW II efforts?"
Why not organize a commemoration of your own culture's contribution to WWII? Why does it bother you that they're taking the time and making the effort to do something positive for their community? Why not spend the energy you have doing something similar for your uncles and your own community?
Why the negativity? As you can see from the remarks that followed your letter, you're only adding to a toxic brew of xenophobic, paranoid, irrationality; giving liscense for the small-minded among us to lash out with fear-inspired epithets and delusional rhetoric.

You read some really bad poetry, or listen to some really bad death metal. Maybe you should adjust your taste Chuck, and then look up some of those words you use, since apparently you only know the meanings by context, and not the actual definitions.

Separatism and Collectivism based on loose racial stereotypes is a bad thing Charles
QBT - Salazar grew up in the San Luis Valley, not a barrio, and his family has probably been in America a century or two longer than yours . But then again you never let your ignorance get in your way before.

For Charles to admit to that would require the use of a dictionary, something he steadfastly refuses to do.

Nick, what toilet do you get your information out of? Do you sometimes realize that you don't know what the hell you are talking about? By the way, what have you done to honor the blacks and Japanese who helped win WWII, except to lie about Salazar not considering them worthy?
Posted by Truth on May 7, 2007 08:20 PMAs long as Senator Ken Mexizar busts his hump for illegal aliens more than the Coloradans who elected him, then I will always criticize him.
Oops...fair time for the Snews editors...I don't like President Shrub either.
Posted by QBT on May 7, 2007 10:42 PMI think the hispanics that served in WW2 should be honored. Unlike today, they actually did something great for this country...instead of just squeezing it dry like a sponge....
Posted by my name 2 on May 8, 2007 02:20 AMWhat are they being honored for-their service or being hispanic?
Posted by on May 8, 2007 03:07 AMTruth, I honored those men who served with the greatest sacrifice I could think of. My own life, I served in combat and will do so again when my unit deploys. And Iget my information from research, as for you, I enjoy your intelligence and great use of the English vocabulary. Please continue the great work and show what a great orator you are in future responses. We all look forward to it.
Posted by Nick on May 8, 2007 07:27 AMNick, my problem with your post, as I tried to point out but with inappropriately strong language, is your blatant assumption that you know what Salazar's thinking is. Unless you have some evidence that Salazar doesn't think blacks and Japanese who fought in World War II are worthy of being honored, you have no business slandering him, regardless of how heroically you may have served our nation.
Posted by Truth on May 8, 2007 08:09 AMI think the issue that Salazar is talking about is that the majority of the hispanics who served in WWII were segregated at boot camp into hispanic only troops just like the African-Americans were. The vast majority of the hispanics in the US at that time had been here before the US was a country and were just as patriotic as all the other races that made up the US at that time. One of my mom's uncle's talked about how everything was segregated at boot camp in Texas and how they were looked down upon. But when they got to Europe they could communicate with most of the people there and were relied upon to talk to the locals for information.
I don't know if there needs to be any special recognition for the hispanic troops, but maybe just an acknowledgement about how they were treated at home by their own country men.
