Lisa Bornstein & baby boomers
I never once thought that my parent’s generation needed to get out of the way. They had it rough, with the depression and war. They wanted their children to have it better; they moved us to the suburbs.
But after pondering further, I find that you and your generation and those younger are the most inconsiderate, mean and unsophisticated than any that have gone before. 30 is the new 12. You have children to accessorize with them, like your dogs, dragging them here and there and breaking laws that “don’t apply to you".
I’m fairly well sick of your generation’s “cool” goatees and obscene muffin tops. You have no manners and civility is obsolete.
You have never lived in a military draft and wear camouflage only because it’s fashionable Your music, if that’s what you call it, stinks. But you all want to share the tripe with your Volkswagen-sized car speakers Do you like being lumped into a whole generation? It never happened to me, but most of my friends were rather grabby, like you, when they were pushing menopause.
Your frivolousness will be the undoing you your generation and your freedoms, which will be gone with because of your attitudes. Pushing the envelope is your generation’s only exercise.
Life is short; maybe you should turn off the television, start living and stop being so mean.

Whew. Nicely put Ms. Plummer. Couldn't say it better. Bornstein wont think it applies to her, of course. So it goes

The truth hurts, and refusing to see yourself in unflattering light masks no pain. I am between the two myself, at fortysix I missed the summer of love. I remember, Disco sucks, Arena Rock sucks harder. And those hippies that shaped my mind, taught me to think for myself, question authority have all sold out. Dennis Hopper is exhibit A.
How many boomer parents apply double standards on their progeny? Marijuana for example, hippies glorified sharing and celebrating the kind herb, but now it is stronger, and dangerous for your children. Now abstinence only sex ed is popular, we can't have our kids doing what we did.
Boomers are still the me generation, indignance to criticism illustrates thin skin.

Posted by This blog sucks on May 29, 2007 07:22 PMGeez, every generation thinks that the ones that came after them aren't as well mannered or listens to lousy music, etc.
Unless Margot lived some sort of "Leave it to Beaver" childhood, I would wager that her parents made many of the same complaints about her and her generation.
Every new generation grows up in a different reality, Margot. So, you grew up with a draft. I grew up in an era when elementary school children were drilled on what to do if the U.S. were bombed with nuclear weapons during school hours.
That's just one example of the different experiences each individual and every generation face...there's still economic factors, family situations, etc to be taken into consideration. Don't sit around pissing and moaning about how much greater your burden was Margot. We've all heard the stories from our parents about how they had to walk to school, uphill both ways in no shoes in ten feet of snow just like they had to hear it from their parents only the snow was alot deeper and school was a sweatshop.
Did you really intend for your children and grandchildren to have to deal with the same issues that you did? Isn't that what every GOOD parent strives for...to give their children the childhood they wish they had had?
