Middle class attacked by immigration bill
Last week’s decision by the Senate to give in to the illegal alien lobby is just another nail in the coffin of the middle class and in the very heart of this great republic.
The huge influx of illegal aliens has driven many communities in our country to near bankruptcy trying to pay the massive increases in public education, health care, etc.
We, the middle class are fighting to keep our collective “heads” above water, struggling with rapidly rising costs on nearly every item purchased. Then you look at the decrease in job availability and, at best, stagnant wages; it sure looks like a planned death.
Add to this malevolent mix, a massive tidal wave of 11 million to 25 million uneducated, low-skill illegal aliens who refuse to integrate and you have the recipe for disaster.
At some point the middle class must stop talking and start doing.
Todd Knurr, Aurora
The answer is a moratorium on ALL immigration.
Posted by on May 21, 2007 03:31 AMCouldn't agree more Todd, and I have been emailing and calling our senators so often they probably know me by name.
Hope everyone who is concerned hounds them as much.

Stand up Americans, fight back, this fight is worth fighting for. The hardworking Americans in this country are going to be snuffed out by lower waged paying illegal aliens being granted amensty if we don't stand up as US Citizens and fight back. Take the time to call, fax, and email your Congressman and Senators and tell them how you feel. Tell them that we have already been lied to by Kennedy once (in 1986) and we will not take it in the butt in 2007. Go to Numbersusa.com to get the numbers and don't let up on them, US Citizens can stop this, despite what any pro-legal will tell you.
Posted by Pam on May 21, 2007 06:46 AMGreat comments, Remember Governor Ritters campaign promise, "The Colorado Dream" WORK HARD AND ABID BY THE RULES, YOU WILL SUCCEED. But then the politicians just change the rules. If this bill passes our nation will no longer be a nation of Laws. If the people in charge can just ignore a law so long that the politicians can say there just too many of them. The Laws are meaningless when they can be manipulated by the power brokers. Tom Tancredo is the only true advocate of the middle class.
Posted by FW on May 21, 2007 06:48 AMThe primary sponsor of this new Senate bill and the amnesty Senate bill passed last summer is Senator Edward Kennedy.
Kennedy has been on the Senate committee for Health, Education, Labor and Pensions since 1999, and is currently the chairman of that committee.
Look at the total disentigration in the areas of health, education, labor and pensions in the past ten years and tell me you want to listen to a senator that has failed so miserably in all his responsibilities.
Posted by LB on May 21, 2007 06:55 AMCan anyone tell me the name of a politician that is part of the middle class?????? They are elitists, thieves, tyrants and liars. There should be a hunting season for them. We have tourist season, don't we?

It's amazing how you can blame "the total disentigration in the areas of health, education, labor and pensions in the past ten years" on Senator Kennedy. Don't you think that the party that was in control of congress for almost all of those years might bear some of the blame?
Posted by Docjay on May 21, 2007 08:13 AMThis bill will foster a never-ending cycle of illegal immigration. The mantra is always "they're doing the jobs Americans won't do". Who will do the jobs they won't do once they become Americans? And does anyone really think they want to become Americans and will pay a 5000$ fine? What we need to do, but fat chance, is immediately seal the border & close the anchor baby loophole.
It saddens me severely when I see young Americans who think they're going to make a living for their families working construction or other traditional blue collar trades. It is an absolute myth that these are jobs we won't do. My husband used to make a good wage in construction. Should he go back to school and learn something new? He's 59 years old. A minimum of 2 years of study puts him at 61; then he'll be required to compete at the bottom of the ladder with twentysomethings. Sure.
Posted by nativeamerican on May 21, 2007 08:28 AMDo NOT Re-elect Ken Salazar he want's to represent Latinos ONLY!!
He stood up behind liar Ted Kennedy and want's a gazillion more illegal's to flood this country!

Posted by T on May 21, 2007 08:51 AMWhat do American's have to do to stop this insanity by our so-called leaders and special interest groups to keep these filthy, diseased, criminals out of our country???
Do we have to pick up our guns and have another civil war?? You know history repeats itself!!!
A Citizen has a great point, thats why Ritter and the like want to stop the Consitutional right to bear arms. Because sooner or later, the people will stand up. A civil war would not be the best way to get anything done, but with our "elected" officials betraying us, this country and their oath of office, it might be the only solution, GOD help us if it ever happens.
Posted by Nick on May 21, 2007 09:30 AMSame old bs.
Does anyone see the incongruity in the writer's claim that this is a threat to the middle class (i.e, educated people), when the undocumented population is mostly unskilled and uneducated?
Can anyone imagine that someone *might* be leading them by the nose? Or is that totally beyond the pale?
And, finally, we should do what about our immigration problem? Cause if we don't get some legislation now, we might not get any for some time. And that will help matters, how?

Good advice T ! Ignore. Ignore. Ignore!
Posted by truthy on May 21, 2007 10:14 AMLegislation? Come on now, if you are an AMERICAN, try enforcing the laws that are already on the books regarding illegal aliens and how they are to be delt with, ie, arresting and deporting them back. Other countries don't have a problem with it, the only reason the Mexicans seem to is so they get free medical, free food, etc., because they know they can!
I was in a dentist office the other day and thought I was going to cry. An illegal came in with her two children, all wearing designer clothes. The mother couldn't speak English and it was a real challenge for the receptionist to communicate. But here's the clincher. The lady asked how much and the receptionist told her about $800.00. This lady asked if she could use her Medicare for the childrens teeth to be fixed. The receptionist advised her that they didn't take Medicare at that office and told her she could use it at a near by dental office. The lady then told the receptionist, (in perfect English I might add, even though until then she could only speak and write in Spanish..,) "that she could pay cash." I didn't know whether to confront and scold the woman for using MY taxes to get her luxuries or cry for the children that she was raising to cheat the government and lie to get freebies!
The Bible tells me that god created a daughter for Adam and he took her for his wife and in a geologic blink a Jew from the "loins of David" transmogrified into a Christian god destined for assisted suicide with the help of Romans and Jews came on the scene.
The media tells me that America seeks assisted suicide with the help of Republicrats, America's two-party system.
I read/hear that mostly Mexican criminals in their own country are fording the river and jumping the fence and 27,000, perhaps 10%, of them are in federal prison.
A rewind to the Reagan era: Isn't he the guy who started this amnesty business assuring America the problem of illegal immigration had been solved?
Don't argue: Eve came from Adam's rib and that is his own flesh and blood whom he married; however, tell me America is not seeking assisted suicide. Me, your friendly deicide.

Posted by Truth on May 21, 2007 10:47 AMJohn II,
Excellent advice!! Even if it takes five years or longer and costs us a billion dollars. Think of the trillions it will cost us in the long run if we let illegals continue to run amok in this country.
Because of the illegals low wages it will cost every American citizen 19,000 for every illegal man, woman, and (the 9 kids they usually have).. in taxes that's $19,000 a year!!!
Just imagine if they are givin amnesty they will hit the social security system in about 20 years according to large groups of ecomical experts. This is a recipe for disaster!!!!
Democrats can go suck on a toxic Kool-aid with their gun grabbing, national health care, socialist agenda.
They just want to make America a one party system with all the illegal votes then they can initiate their socialist plans for America!
American's have a constitutional right to own and bear arms...and the Democrats will find out American's love their guns MORE than they do the Democratic party!!!
I don't trust EITHER party they are they are not representing the citizens anymore on ANY issues important to the health and welfare of this country.
If it comes to civil strife I think the American people will stand up and fight!! the politicians are playing with fire if they pass this amnesty bill!!!
Truth, you'll be one of the first to know.

T trots out the $19,000 per citizen per year claim. Simple math shows that 300 million x 19,000 = 5.7 trillion. This is more than the entire U.S. budget in a single year.
To all those who repeat, believe, or are disturbed by this claim: Duh.
Posted by anderson on May 21, 2007 10:59 AMThe main problem is that those of us that want to do something about the illegal immigaration have not banded together and done anything about it. The time is now, we have to organize so we can object as a group, and I really don't know where to go to do that. Does anybody have an idea? The illegals are certainly much more organized. It just seems as if the elected officials are ignoring us and doing whatever they want to do to benefit their respective political party. We do not need to import high school drop outs. We have enough of our own that we haven't been able to help.
Posted by troll on May 21, 2007 11:10 AMOK I have some questions for the illegal’s.
1) Knowing you came here illegally and knowing you could get arrested and be sent back, how/why do you feel you have the right to whine about your husband or wife that was arrested and taken away, and then say that Americans should be sympathetic and not take the parent from the family? How can you demand sympathy when you deliberately disrespect this countries laws , and still come here illegally?
2) You ran from your own country to come to ours. You say you are so proud of your flag and feel you should be able to fly it? Thought you trashed it when you came here. If you’re so proud of it then why aren’t you still in that country flying it?
3) You feel you have the right to be legal citizens in this great country, but I haven't heard anything about your people even trying to change your own countries government. Lazy? Scared? Don't know how to start? Apparently you have no problems in our country doing it.
4) You say you can't afford to go through the legal process to get here, yet you can pay some guy to smuggle you into this country ....
I challenge someone to answer me on these questions
Why spend billions building a fence? We could simply videotape soldiers laying down bricks and calling them anti-personel mines in the desert somewhere, anywhere, and broadcast the video everywhere for about a week or 2, and claim that there are hundreds of sections of the US/Mexico border where the mines have been laid. It wouldn't matter where or even IF mines had been placed. Just make sure that everyone within 500 miles of the border is aware that they 'may' be walking into a minefield. Maybe supplement the 1st video with a followup video a few weeks later of a coyote being blown to bits by an errant step on a mine. You could use either the real coyote, a stuffed replica, or just some felonious human smuggler that has already been caught, it wouldn't matter. Fear of the unknown would certainly slow down the invasion. The videos might cost a couple hundred bucks, but way less than the fence that is supposed to be built.

Assuming you can get Americans off the coach, these efforts will be squashed a like bug, given the new powers of domestic survelliance and enforcement the GOP Congress and Bush granted the government.
Didn't the reactionary knuckleheads who supported these actions by the GOP ever for a moment consider how they might be used by leaders of either party to put down efforts to derail the interests of corporate America?

What about Iran? N. Korea? Health care? Global Climate Change? The minimum wage? Transportation? Education? Taxes? I guess as long as the "war in Iraq" is going on though, you will have something to complain about huh?
I'm glad you wrote. I like that singular issue kind of thing. Don't offer up a solution, but as long as there is a "War in Iraq" then I guess you can have an issue to cling to.

Can't lie about truths, remember we still have freedom of speech here. You're entitled to "hope" that I am a liar.
If multi-national coporations are partly driving the movement of peoples around the world, say buying cheap land and putting people off the farms, then how do you expect fo fight them?
What national company was helping the bad guys in Guatamaula lately, some banana company?
And didn`t that used to be United Fruit?
When we all take to the streets, John II will you be walking or driving your Jeep?
I feel the same sense of inevitabiliy with the amnesty bill that I felt before the Iraq war.

Posted by Sharon B. on May 21, 2007 03:46 PMTwo Mexican 5th grade boys, attacked a lone 2nd grade white boy at Lawrence elementary school today 5/21/07 at around 3:30 p.m.
The two pieces of walking bacteria came up BEHIND the white kid and attacked him like two hyena's. The poor little boy didn't have a chance. They threw him to the ground, his head slammed into a very large rock and they proceeded to kick the hell out of him.
The boy was not moving when my hysterical daughter in-law ran to his aid. One lady tried to grab and hold on to the Mexican scum bags, but they overpowered her and ran away. Rescue arrived and took the little boy to the hospital, he still wasn't moving when they took him away. The two may have killed the child.
This is becoming an all to familiar scenario for white kids. Remember the Mexican gang of girls who attacked and severly injured a white girl on the western slope a few months back??
should white kids from kindergarten and up bring armed gaurds to elementary school with them now days?
I guess Mexican's and their culture of violence rule now!

Well, jgd, you just gloss over my meaning of "hateful crap"--the lies, the demonization, the divisiveness--as if it doesn't exist. Don't give me any bs about open borders. There are people dying on the border *every* day as it stands so it's not "open" now, and I've never advocated anything like "open". But if you mischaracterize what I say about one thing, it's easier to shoot down other things I say, eh? That's the whole "open borders" strategy in a nutshell. Classic strawman.
I don't spend a great deal of time talking about border security, one, because I'm not an expert about that aspect, and two, because everyone else is shouting about it all the time. Since "border security" is foremost on everyone's mind, I figure it will continue to be tightened. I'd rather talk about the things that aren't so commonly mentioned, like the effect of our policies on families.
