Talk radio host and Rocky columnist Mike Rosen is a Denver treasure, especially for politicians and other spinmeisters. A young man called his show recently and mentioned that his friend, who had just returned from a tour of duty in Iraq, was glad to get out of Iraq and no longer believed in the mission there. This wily caller was obviously trying to trick Rosen into thinking of this as just one more data point, a piece of the puzzle in forming our overall view of the situation there. Rosen would have none of it. He pointed out that not everyone agrees with this soldier’s opinion (for example, Lt. Gen. David Petraeus disagrees!), and asked rhetorically what he’s supposed to do with this information — change his entire view of the war? Of course not; this soldier’s view is not decisive in any way. Therefore — and here is the stroke of genius — this information can be dismissed as utterly meaningless and without merit!
Brilliant! I’ve heard Rosen has used this technique countless times over the years. Demagogues and sophists everywhere have much to learn from him! This letter has not been edited.

I'd rather dismiss anything Rosen says or writes as utterly meaningless. He is a true spinmeister, not to mention fibber.

Good point John. Rosen is an intellectually dishonest bully and is the only talk show host I know of who is absolutely dependent on "Mr. Hold Button." Rosen is a classic variant of the lawyer who, when the law is on his side, poounds the law, when the facts are on his side, pounds the facts, and when neither is on his side, pounds the table. He badgers and intimidates callers ("You're repeating yourself!!"" - as if Rosen never did that and it's the crime of the century).
It's a shame Denver can't have a more Dick Cavett or Bill Buckley type when, agree or not, everyone came away from the show smarter and better. With Rosen, (unless he's changes his stripes - sounds like he hasn't) you come away feeling like you need a shower.
