Our legislature
Whoever said, “No man’s life, liberty or property is safe while the legislature is in session,” must have been thinking of the Colorado General Assembly.
Michael P. Lantz, Denver
The Colorado Legislature are nothing more than jackles and scavengers, whose job is to control as many aspects of personal lives as they can think of. We would be better off if they would meet every other year. That way they could only take half as many freedoms away as they do now.
Posted by Libertarian on May 22, 2007 12:54 AMThe Colorado legislature is a prime example of how elected officials forget why they were elected. The consumming pursuit of power and screwing over those that put them into power seems to jump both political sides. It is time once again to send a very clear and distinct message. Vote these baffoooooons out.
Posted by Tom on May 22, 2007 05:26 AMthe only thing government does well is take tax money to support them. anyone remember the House bank scandal? even Denvers most loved horse face, patty schroder, was writting checks with no money in the bank. I guess she thought a tax increase would put money in her account

Posted by on May 22, 2007 07:11 AMBut wait! Why aren't we all yelling about Dems and Rebubs? Ohhhh...finally starting to get it...they are all of the same ilk. Good to see the IQ of Rocky readers has gone up!

It's the only job you can take which immediately increases your net worth without having to work for it!
Posted by on May 22, 2007 07:22 AMI've always wondered how many of the most vocal, raucous, and vociferous critics of government, and the people in government, ever actually go to the polls and VOTE.
Nah! Who wants to bother to have to stand in line, and actually participate in the action? More fun lazing back in the recliner, with a bottle, complaining.
Besides, if they voted, they might have to take some responsibility for having chosen the people they're trashing all the time.

I do.
So, does that mean I can say "government isn't the solution, it's the problem" with a clear conscience?
Posted by prima facie on May 22, 2007 09:19 AMprima facie,
Certainly. There are many issues on which your observation is correct. I take no issue with free speech as such. Nor do I take any with trashing, as such. Indeed, when I was contacted by the individual who monitors this website, I stated clearly that I am always against censorship of any kind. Give - say "Keith", for instance - his say, regardless of how it be expressed. Then, if the site wants to edit for space, cut off the multiples, since erasing 4,5,6,7,8, repititions does not constitute censorship as such.
Criticize away! All I'm curious about is how much of the criticism - trashing really, such as we see all over on this website - is accompanied by any corresponding understanding and acceptance of responsibility on the part of the critic.
Posted by Old Grouch on May 22, 2007 09:42 AMIn the past I closed my letters and comments with: What's Next; now I know nobody took that seriously. Yet, in todays political climate, it seems that some are getting the point. We now have Obeseity Police, Smoking Police and now a new Morality Police. It seems that they are now becoming a force in Alabama. A judge there decide that businesses selling sex toys needed to be baned to protect the public morals. You can by them some where else and it is not illegal to posses them. Now, it would seem that is an direct contradiction in terms but, what's new in that. Laws insisted upon by zealots always seem to include temporary exemptions, for the most part to pay back the mercantile interests that footed the bill to get the law passed, then turn around and stab them in the back by eliminating the exemptions. But, getting back to the Alabama issue, the court did not ban the possion of sex toys they simply ban there sale therby putting private businesses out of business with out protecting the public from the alleged immoral products. Now do any of you get it. Laws are being passed to advance the mercantile interests of pharmaceutical companies in drugs and morality mercantile interests in bibles. And who is supporting this social engerneering and flat out dictation of what you can and can't do? The very people you elected and who swore an oath protect and defend your liberty, justice and freedom. Why would they do that? Because somewhere in the process they gain some type of advantage including, surprise, surprise, power, control and money.
