Rutgers vs. Duke
Tuesday, May 1 at 10:40 AM

Beth McCane of Aurora writes:

I don’t dispute the fact that the name that Don Imus called the Rutgers women’s basketball team was uncalled for and totally unnecessary. But when I hear that the remark was deeply hurtful to the Rutgers students and their families, it makes you wonder: What about the Duke Lacrosse players who were verbally brutalized, stereotyped, treated horribly and blasphemed? They didn’t endure just a disparaging remark. Their season was ruined and they had to endure a criminal trial. How do they repair their reputation? They will always be known as the Duke Lacrosse players who raped the stripper. They have demonstrated a tougher resolve after being called rapists and racists. Yet when the sexual assault charges were dropped what didwe hear? Nothing.
Crickets chirping. And then there’s the matter of Al Sharpton. Will he be apologizing to the Duke players for his involvement in that case? Probably not.
His quick rush to form a judgment against those lacrosse players caused a huge disservice to those athletes. He’s not man enough to own up to his mistakes.

The Duke players did not go to trial.Mike Nilfong used them to get elected by the black community.
The Duke players got an apology from one person, the Attorney General who finally said enough.
Over 80 Professors from Duke signed a letter distancing themselves and denouncing the Duke players within weeks of the charges.
No apology from them either.
Though there was no trial they were convicted in the news, public opinion,Duke University, the black community, the D.A's office,Al Sharpton,Jesse Jackson, the Black Panther Party, and no one has stepped up to be a human being and say we were wrong,we are sorry.
The families have had to endure humiliation, the frightening chance that the railroad going on was not going to be stopped in time and millions of dollars in lawyers fees.
Why?
All because a doped up,drunk, stripper prostitute who was black cried RAPE! No evidence to support her claims. Not one iota.
She will get her due justice one day. I just hope it's soon.

Beth,

I feel bad for the Rutgers players and the Duke players. Why must it be either or?

True, but one need never apologize for insults leveled at white men. I'm not sure why, but I know better than to kick up a fuss. Most of us in the melanin-deprived camp do, and we'd rather not talk about the ones who do make noise.

The difference between the Rutger players and the Duke players are apples and oranges. The Rutger players got sympathy, were apoligized to in public and private and didn't cause harm to anyone. They are a team with class.Their accuser, sort of speak, was white and most of the team was black and called names usually describing black women.Don Imus lost his job for something said. Words, freedom of speech?Yes,though the words were poorly chosen.

The Duke players were targeted by a black drunk stripper prostitute with mental problems. She with her words and freedom of speach accused them of a horrible crime. Here is where the words become criminal. They were railroaded almost into court and lost a year of their lives and millions of dollars and their reputations. All because a little tramp cried wolf.
The Duke players will never get the apologies they are due. They will never get a full year of their lives back. They will never get justice.
The Rutgers incedent was over in a week. The Duke players lost a year of their lives and will carry the hateful charges made against them with them the rest of their lives.
The Duke players are white and their accuser is black. Looks like Twanna Brawley all over again. It seems to me that if you are black and called names by a white person you are open to humiliation and being fired.
If you are black you can call anyone names and make false charges against white people and walk away after destroying them.
Black and White.

Amen is wanting someone to call him a racist. OK, Amen, you are a racist. Feel better now?

No I am not a racist. I am outraged when minorities get a pass for behavior or words that when used by whites ,they are treated much different.
What was said about the Rutger's team was wrong. What the D.A. did to the Duke players was wrong.
I was just pointing out that what the Duke players went through was 100 times worse than what the Rutger's team went through.
