The breaking point
Thursday, May 24 at 12:01 AM

May 1 was the breaking point for me. While trying to get a ballot to election officials in downtown Denver, I had to fight a crowd of illegal immigrants.
I wish somebody would explain something very basic to me. We incarcerate and prosecute our own U.S. citizens when they break the law. Why on earth would any patriotic American citizen think it is OK to grant such an honored and privileged status as citizenship to anybody who so blatantly and arrogantly violates our laws?
I understand that families are being broken up, but it happens every day to U.S. citizens who break the law. I don’t hear judges looking the other way when criminals commit crimes but have a family at home. They are then separated from their loved ones just like every other criminal.

Chris Crosier, Denver

what can we do about it? I"m ready to take a stand - but what can we do? I'm sick and worried about the direction this country is taking, and the majority of the politicians are in the driver's seat. Time for this bus to change its course before it is too late.

A few years ago, the feds proudly announced fining WalMart $11 million for hirimg illegals. That year, WalMart made $285 BILLION. The fine was an accounting 'rounding error' - similar to fining a speeder one cent for every mile over the posted speed limit, which would hardly be a deterrent. Greedy illegal employers (those who deliberately hire illegal immigrants) are the root cause of the problem. Unless the government charges meaningful fines for hiring illegal immigrants, not to mention paying in cash to avoid taxes, the problem will persist. We consumers can help - for instance - after the raids at Swift, did you stop buying their products - and let them know WHY you stopped buying them? Have you stopped shopping in stores that make announcements in both English & Spanish (other than to announce a lost child)? If you hire a lawn company or contractor to work at your home, have you asked about the legal status of the workers (or did you just go with the lowest bid)? If you don't like the new legislation that Congress is working on, which clearly favors business by allowing illegals to (1) have a quick path to citizenship or (2) have indefinitely renewable temporary work permits and includes the ability to have up to and ADDITIONAL 600,000 'H1B' workers every year (FYI, IBM alone has started to offshore 30-40% of its US workforce, which comes to 45,000-60,000 high tech folks - with years if not decades of experience that the Indians don't have) then let them know. Their addresses, email addresses & phone numbers are posted on their websites (you can look them up at www.house.gov for your representative & www.senate.gov for your senators). Let them know how you feel - and that you vote - then vote the bastards out!

I know that I'll never hire another contractor that employs illegal aliens. They do shoddy work and can't answer any questions or give explanations. I'd rather pay a higher amount for AMERICAN ENGLISH-SPEAKING people and get high-quality work done.

"I understand that families are being broken up, but it happens every day to U.S. citizens who break the law."

Not only when they break the law!

Members of my family have repeatedly had to move in search of employment. I have brothers, sisters and parents in Little Rock, St Louis, Dallas and Denver. We're all separated by the search for employment that will give us "a better life".

Now, Obama, Clinton and other senators are wanting to extend visas to even more family members of illegal aliens who may soon be legalized through the proposed "Z" visas under the guise of "humane" treatment of immigrants.

Newly forgiven and rewarded illegal immigrants who are legalized under the currently debated senate immigration reform bill could travel back to Mexico to see their families just as easily as I can fly to Dallas to see my parents, or St. Louis or Little Rock to see my brother and sister.

So why do we have to give legal visas to family members who are not contributing to the nation? Once legalized, they can travel back and forth.

I'm separated from my extended family in search of the better life. Why are foreigners exempted from that inconvenience?

Good advise Mary.

And I agree with much larger fines on illegal employers, but would also like to see mandatory jail time for supervisors, managers and CEOs.

120 days for first offenses; 6 months - 2 years for repeat offenders. These are crimes against America!

That would get some attention!

MER, If you are looking for a contractor that absolutely does not hire illegals,my husband works for one.
He works for Jordy constuction. It is a small firm but the have a big contract with Lockheed Martin. All employees must be legal and they do background checks. They have hired legal mexicans ,but they don't stay with the company long, because the company does not tolerate shoddy workmanship. They will fire anyone doing bad work. They are a Union company but as I say They don't care who you are ,they will fire anybody not doing the best job.

Spread the word I can assure you they do not hire illegals.

Welcome to America, I'm with Mary.
Anytime you spend $ at Wal-mart. or buy fast food from Pepsico-owned stores (look it up)
You're supporting illegal employers.
Most Americans are too lazy and/or stupid to realize that they've been sold down the river to multi-national corporations.
Thank Reagan,Bush, and all the corporations that have addresses in the Caymans.
They traded patriotism for profits long ago.
The latest insult to Americans is when the guards at military bases were replaced with employees of the UAE.
How ironic. Being guarded by people we have been programed to fear for the last 6 years.

That law should be reformed - if you're not here legally, your children are not here legally.

So, dmz, you call someone that complies with our laws a "tax cheat" just because they were forced, by excessive taxation, to remove themselves or their business from US jurisdiction ? Sounds like blaming the victim! Yet, I'm sure you support "tax cheats" coming here to steal services being paid for by law-abiding citizen taxpayers, forcing taxes up for all of us and encouraging more businesses to leave? I'm sure you also blame the closing of hospital emergency rooms around the country on those evil health-care workers trying to feed their families! Erasing the borders works BOTH ways!

dmz,
I'm a conservative, self employed and I pay my taxes, all of them and this is a monthly filing for me. You probably don't know the first thing about paying these types of taxes yourself, or the burden that is put on the small business owner, your employer pays them for you. You are really good at bashing those who have a different opinion than yours (these "Cons" as you put it) I guess I'm one of them myself yet I do it all by the book and am offended by your platitude about cons. You are the type of person that is driving this country nose first into the ground with your hate speech and attacks on those with differing views than yours, this does not make your opinion the correct one. RS makes a good point, those who have snuck across our borders are stealing our taxes by using our emergency rooms as doctors offices and then skipping out on the bill. Guess who pays for that dmz? You and I via our taxes.

Tired of illegal Mexicans whining! Welcome to African Americans', AMERICA! For 400 years our families have been terroriozed and separated. You will find our compassion for your plight, somewhere between shinola and s_ _ _ .

Illegal Mexicans are being pimped and exploited solely for the financial gain of the Vatican, ag and construction industries, Wal-Mart, Mexican gov't, and Tancredo's home improvement projects.

Blacks in Northeast Denver should love their illegals though. These illegals voted and nullified black votes. Lo and behold, Northeast Denver have no black representation on RTD's board of directors. RTD is spending billions in black tax dollars (Fas Tracks), and blacks are blessed with a 15% unemployment rate. They can thank the "Judas" corps of Groff, Hancock, Wedgeworth-less, Webb, K. Salazar, Patterson, Marshall, T.Carroll, and Jones.

In a manner much like STD's, illegal Mexicans, are the gift that keeps on giving. I want to thank them for re-segregating our communities, retarding black students achievements due to their inability to speak English, better-organized international gangs, lowering our wages and benefits, corrupting our gains made in the Voting Rights Act of 1965, and re-introduction of communicable diseases we've already cured.

My whining, I'm tired of being the "nappy-headed HO" for illegal Mexicans and the GOP.

Keep calling, faxing, emailing them to stand up for all hardworking LEGAL AMERICANS whether LEGAL IMMIGRANTS OR US CITIZENS (must yell so the stupid will know that I am not speaking of anyone here in this country legally). There are more and more of us starting to stand and fight back everyday, letting this government we will no longer tolerate law breakers coming into this country with forged documents and/or stealing honest hardworking citizens identities so that they may obtain credit cards (Bank of America), education, medical, mortgages, Social Security Benefits, Welfare, Food Stamps, etc., paid by your tax dollars.

I wouldn't say the government is good, but this is a flawed comparison. Where do you think the funds come from to build and maintain new roads and highways? It comes from the gas tax and not from Mobil so you and I do get a direct benefit from the gas tax, but not from Mobil's profits. That's not to say that Mobil's profits are bad or that the gas tax is used effectively, but you are comapring apples and oranges here.

A Heritage Foundation report yesterday is a must read, as it examines just one section of this huge bill and shows how the devil is in the details - the text of this bill. The article details ten ways in which this bill undermines the rule of law. His conclusion:

"What becomes unmistakably clear from the details of the Senate's bill is that it is not a "compromise" in any meaningful sense. Indeed, the sweeping amnesty provisions of Title VI cripple law enforcement and undermine the rule of law."

Read it and pass it on. Then call, fax or write those in Washington.

http://www.heritage.org/Research/Immigration/wm1468.cfm

I got a form letter back from Salazar's office thanking me for contacting them and telling me how wonderful this bill is, along with some platitudes on how complex and emotional this issue is, yada, yada, yada.........

However, we need to keep the pressure on and let them know how we feel. It IS having an effect.

Posted by RU Serious on May 24, 2007 12:18 PM

This is unbelievable!

I'm tired of all of the ILLEGAL Polish, Russian, German, French, Armenian, Ukranian, Estonian, Italian, Lithuanian, Latvian, Bosnian, Bulgarian, Chinese, Korean etc. immigrants who come here and use up our welfare system.

If you want to send the illegal Mexicans (or whomever from south of the border) back then we have to send all of the caucasian illegals back as well.

Posted by J-Mac on May 24, 2007 01:20 PM

A.

If you listen to the Democrats, well more like the Kennedy-crats, they will tell you they don't hate America so much as they love big business putting cash into thier pockets. Keeping that in mind, the only way they can get lots of cash in their pockets is to sell out hardworking Americans for cheap illegal alien labor. Isn't life grand (smart*** comment), Welcome to the United States of Mexico, the home of the illegal alien the land of the sellouts. I sent a letter to all of my Congressman and Senators along with Kennedy, Kyl, and Reid requesting permission to give back my citizenship so I to can become an illegal alien and benefit from this amensty. I figured if I to became an illegal alien paying a 5000.00 fine and to file back income tax with the amount of dependents I have would be alot easier on my ass than the taxes I had to pay for the last five years, and with the amount of dependents I can claim when filing back taxes I should probably get around 10,000.00 back from the IRS which will make up for the fine. I would also be entitled to special incentives to put my children through College (free of course) among all the other benefits, and get a brand spankin new home, which would be nicer than most hardworking Americans can qualify for now with the wages in the toilet, but hey when I can move in 4 families, well the mortgage would not be so bad. Do I sound bitter, God I hope so, that is how mad I am about the lies this government is shoving down my throat. Will I sound like a Racist to some who post on this letter, yep, but the real question is DO I CARE.......NO!! For all the Andersons, Old Grouchs, and Sharon B's of the world, my wish is someday that this amensty that you support so much, comes back to bite you in the butt, I guess than you will hear the crys of would of, should of, could of.

The only illegals that we are getting "invaded" by are the Hispanics who are trying to change our language and who are marching in our streets whining. They are the ones crying about being separated from their families when it was a choice they made to come here illegaly. Do not put the blame on the small amount of others that are here illegaly. Has nothing to do with being caucasian. If the government followed the law "no" illegal no matter what color would be allowed.

I agree about big corporations but if George Soros gets in power he will allow all the illegals in and many more will follow. At least voting for Romney or Tancredo would give us time to regroup and not immediately have all these illegals made legal the day after the law passes. The SS system is already in trouble and these people would be elgible to draw it. That just makes me sick. There is no way that we should make anybody legal until we have been able to prove they have been here for a number of years as they have proven they are very good at falsifying any documents.

Wake up Democrats.

Posted by on May 24, 2007 04:28 PM

We wonder why the politicians who are supposedly representing us will even consider voting for this piece of garbage bill?

A Rasmussen poll released yesterday.....

"shows that just 26% of American voters favor passage of the legislation. Forty-eight percent (48%) are opposed while 26% are not sure.

The measure is opposed by 47% of Republicans, 51% of Democrats, and 46% of those not affiliated with either major party.

The enforcement side of the debate is clearly where the public passion lies on the issue. Seventy-two percent (72%) of voters say it is Very Important for “the government to improve its enforcement of the borders and reduce illegal immigration.” That view is held by 89% of Republicans, 65% of Democrats, and 63% of unaffiliated voters.

Advocates of “comprehensive” reform have taken to arguing that those who want an enforcement-only policy must explain how they would deal with the 12 million illegal aliens already living in the country. The public reaction to that question appears to be “Why?” Only 29% of voters say it is Very Important for “the government to legalize the status of illegal aliens already in the United States.”

Thirty-eight percent (38%) of Democrats believe that legalization is Very Important. Just 22% of Republicans and 27% of unaffiliated voters share that view."

The survey has many other findings which illuminate the often misinterpreted attitudes of the public on this issue.

http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/politics/just_26_favor_senate_immigration_plan

Every time the immigration issue dominates the news, the Bush approval ratings sink even farther to a new record low. It won't be long before they can't sink any lower.

Why do elected politicians feel so safe in going against our will?

According to one conservative writer, it is quite simple. Politicians understand that it does not matter what Americans think, it only matters how they vote. While we may complain about the immigration issue, we often vote on other issues - war, taxes, education, minimum wage laws, abortion, judicial nominees, health care, etc.

Contrast that to those in favor of open borders, whether they are sweatshop labor businessmen, or identity politics groups like La Raza. They vote solely on their over-riding issue. If you are an illegal alien hoping for amnesty and/or citizenship you will promise your future voting allegiance to anyone who thinks your way.

This writer says that one illegal alien cancels out six distracted Americans. If we oppose this bill, we must organize and vote this passion. Don't get distracted by other issues next year.

Join FAIR, Numbers USA, The Center for Immigration Studies, or Team America PAC. Join all of them and contribute.

The NRA with only 4.3 million members (2% of voting age population) is very effective because they are organized and targeted.

Rep. Eric Cantor (R-WV) has organized an online petition urging no amnesty. I urge you to sign it and send the link to others who feel strongly.

http://noamnestypetition.com/

We need to make it clear that ANY politician that votes for this disaster will not get our vote or ANY money donated to the National Committee. We will target for defeat those who sell us out on this issue.

When you wander around the supermarket , do you have any idea which companys use illegals from raw materials to finished products? Kuners, Nabisco, El Paso, there are hundreds of these big business players in every inch of the store.

If you really want to dry up the illegal worker market it will take research, not empty slogans about taking to the streets. Find out where your money goes and shop local stores with local products. But they probably use illegals also.
