Una lengua ‘nifty’
This is in response to Maxwell Elementary School parent Monica Moore’s highlighted quote in the April 24 Rocky Mountain News story, “DPS chief runs race to revitalize.”
Moore is quoted as saying, “We have signs now on stores in Spanish. It’s the fastest-growing language here. It’s going to be the second language. Why not start offering it at the elementary school age?”
If Moore thinks that Spanish is such a nifty language, she should seriously consider relocating to Mexico. I understand that Spanish is spoken widely there. In fact, I believe it is the official language of the country.

Monica anglicized her last name when she sneaked into the country. It's actually spelled Moorez.

That is what we ask our legal immigrates to do to be a part of this nation, why is this too much to ask of the illegal immigrates for all the privileges and benefits of living in this great nation?
Actually, has Bill ever heard of the word acculturation? These people (illegals) do not need to assimilate into the "American" culture but they need to acculturate themselves with some very important American values. Such as, a proper education for their young not a ever so present notion that failure is okay, that exists at this point and time. They need to adapt a sense of pride within the communties where they reside and LEARN our language.
On the other hand it would not hurt so bad for Americans to do the same. Such as, taking the initiative to learn a someting about another culture. Whether it is Spanish, French , Italian, Irish, Persian, Arab or the Hidnu Indian culture.
We, as a nation, were built upon acculturation not assimilation. In the 1800's there were many thriving multicultural (ie., Irish, Polish, Italian) neighborhoods on the east coast and to this day factions of these neighborhoods still exist. It is a beautiful thing to see that these people from different "worlds", who spoke different languages and had many cultural differences were able to acculturate themselves and live and thrive within a community. The mexicans or wherever they come from south of the border need to do the same.
