War on drugs
Tuesday, May 22 at 11:12 AM

George Lilly of Denver writes:

Kudos to the mom who tested her own kid for drug use! It’s time for parents to take responsibility for their kids misbehavior.
The nation’s experts think it’s a bad idea. Why? Because drug counseling and treatment programs are a multi-billion dollar industry, and they don’t want parents interfering. The prison system needs to keep growing, and the vast majority of people in prison these days are drug offenders.
The White House thinks it’s a bad idea. Why? Because the CIA is the largest most powerful drug dealing agency in the world, and moms, you better not shortchange them! They can get very vicious.

And it could damage the poor kids self esteem.

How about some kudos for parents who raise their kids to not to be tempted by drugs in the first place? There's something wrong with a family where there is so little trust that a parent has to resort to giving their own kid a drug test.

Time to test mom for her use of drugs, specifically nicotene, alcohol and probably excessive use of over-the-counter drugs. What example are you setting?

Posted by American Patriot on May 22, 2007 05:03 PM

Karen, in this day and age even "good kids" get tempted. But I also did react in a similiar way that a mom would test her kid for drugs. I view it as the act of a desperate parent. I won't presume to judge her, as I don't know her situation.

Face it, we are a drug culture. The advertising industry takes the cash from the Pharmaceutical industry to ingrain the idea in our minds that the solution to all our problems can be solved with a pill. Check out an hour of primetime TV and count the number of commercials for drugs, both prescription and over the counter. It is astounding - so much so that we hardly notice anymore.

Maybe we can check our girls for being a virgin.

What a conspiracy theory George has come up with! Wow...I'll bet he has tin foil on his head to keep the government out of his thoughts!

That is right. Welcome to the United Police States of America, where everyone is a suspected illegal drug user and we have the highest rate of incarcerated drug users in the world. That is why one of the fastest growing industries in America is the prison industry. The drug testing industry wants to keep it that way. Meanwhile, as the FDA and Big Pharma are responsible for the deaths of over 100,000 innocent legal prescription drug users in this country each year, they are never held accountable for what is actually murder. They also make sure that natural herbs like cannabis, which has never caused a single death, remain illegal. So 7:23, it is not a conspiracy, it is just misguided government policy.

Whatever 8:34, put the tin foil on your head.

9:28, so you agree with 8:34, but what is the bit about tin foil?

It is getting harder and harder to raise, drug free, alcohol free, sexually educated, moral and honest children.

The parents that are of the mindset that these things are important and taught in the home are up against the schools, media, peer pressure, and other stupid people telling your kids it's okay to experiment with drugs, alcohol, sex and just lie about it.

Parents want the best for their children and know whats best for their children. However we are constantly being put down if we won't under any way shape or form tolerate these behaviors. If we hold ourselves and our children accountable for inappropiate behavior we are the ones that are terrible parents. We are crushing a child's self esteem and not letting them do what they want and make their own choices no matter how bad they are.We are supposed to pat them on the head and say, " It's allright everyone else is doing it.

It's okay until one of your children is killed by teens doing drugs and drinking and driving. It's okay to send your kid to a liberal collegs like CU and watch as a group of kids get together to smoke pot because they think it's their right. It's okay until your child goes to college and drinks themselves to death.

It's okay until your daughter gets pregnant and the father is not involved because it was an experiment.

When these things happen the parents hire Lawyers and want to sue all because everyone else was doing it and they didn't want to set bounderies or teach morals because it would hurt their self esteem and crush their spirit.

Well I'm proud to say I'm a terrible parent, because these things are not okay and I don't care if your kid self esteem is higher than mine just because their high on drugs.

Gosh, Can I get an Amen, if you have any kids, better lock them up for thier own safety. If you let them out, follow them everywhere for their own safety. The drug war is a waste of time and money and has never solved anything.

So I should let them do their own thing.Groovy ! Get out of the sixties and start being a parent .The teens that grew up in the sixties are the parents raising ," It's all about me! " generation.

Posted by Can I get an AMEN! on May 23, 2007 02:11 PM

Yes, Can I Get an Amen, at 54 I am raising an 8 year old daughter and am an excellent parent. Groovy.. But, despite rants from mental migets like you, I still reserve the right to enjoy cannabis even though I have to hide it from the kid and you do not like it . As for liberal colleges like CU, all the drug war laws currently in place will never stop young folks from experimenting with alcohol or cannabis. If you do not like it, then Send them to an awful place like say, Oral Roberts University, where they will have their minds wasted by religion and lots of police will watch their every move. How about an Amen.Amen Man..

Test the kids so the adults can act like adults and make up their own minds about drugs.

Posted by Sean on May 23, 2007 06:12 PM

Bo, Being an excellent parent and being high in an altered state? No that is not being an excellent parent.Just call Social Services and ask them if you can be an excellent parent and smoke pot?Call the police and ask them if they think you can smoke pot and still be an excellent parent.Call your child's school and ask them if you are an excellent parent even though you are high.

When you are high ,you usually have a high opinion of yourself.

Stay drug free for a month and see clearly what your missing.

Can I Get an Amen, many parents enjoy cannabis and raise bright off spring in non- police state countries, like Holland, Spain and, Portugal, to name a few, where this natural plant that grows everywhere is not criminalized. Get out your passport and visit Amsterdam, like I do and learn what it is like to live in a civilized, free, non- police state society, where cannabis is tolorated and less people use it than here where it is not. It is also possible to do even here in UPSA (United Police States of Amerika) as I and others like me do everyday. I live right across the street from a sheriff deputy, but I mind my own business and my family and I do not need to ask the police anything. As a Libertarian, I responded to your post because I just disagree with and understand that it, that's all. I see your position as wanting to control what others do.

"F" the police, Can I Get an Amen. Now, mind yur own business for a month and seee what you are missing.

Bo since you believe we should have no laws,I was wondering how about letting some illegals come live with you. They can work for you, clean your house,do the yard work etc..While you sit around smoking joints and being an excellent parent. Laws are for everyone not the ones who are HIGH and mighty and think they don't apply to them.
By all means book a one-way ticket to Amsterdam.Have a nice trip!
