Why not lower the price?
Saturday, May 26 at 12:01 AM

It seems like every other day I read about lower circulation and job layoffs with both newspapers.
Time after time “the changing habits of newspaper readers and the changing audience” is the main reason this is occurring.
Did the Denver Newspaper Agency ever think that maybe the reason for this is the high cost of subscribing to the newspaper? I have been a newspaper reader my whole life, but this year when my subscription expires, I have to think twice about paying $125 a year.
Maybe if the agency lowers its subscription rates, it will get more readers and it can sell more advertising. Just a thought.

why pay for the cow when you can get the milk for free? I look on line and it doesnt cost a dime. when they do start to charge for online access I will go to one of the other thousand sites that are free.

The real reason for newspaper's lower circulation and increased prices may have something to do with the increase in other news sources being avaiable but, ultimately it is what the focus of a newspaper is. If a newspaper focuses on liberal or conservative agendas they naturally will loose the readership of one or the other. This should not be the case but, it is in this day of polarized political zealousness. I think newspapers should go back to true investigative reporting that is not agenda driven but rather is driven by the public's right and need to know the true purpose behind agendas that have an effect on their lives and livelihoods. This should be the foundation of the Fourth Estate's purpose and, if they would get involved in such reporting by reverting to their venerable and honorable heritage, circulation and advertising would increase and, once again they would be regarded as the most ceditable source of news.I believe the public is ready for and the times demand, honest, indepth reporting. There is entirely too much one sided, agenda driven, personal preference inspired, politically motivated and just plain inaccurate reporting these days and we the people are tired of it. We need the refreshing air of invigorating truth if we are to rekindle the smoldering embers of interest in politics that is so obviously lacking in society today.

The RMN is a quick read, consisting of mostly advertisements, crime, mindless fluff and spoon fed corporate controlled BS and spin. And besides being a waste of paper, by the time the paper gets to you, the news they are reporting has already been reported on TV or on the internet. That is why I too dropped my Newspaper subscription last year and visit internet sites for free.

Patriot Herb..is right. Too bad for me..I got a
deal(???) on line for a yr. Once expired I will not renew. For half a story and sickens me with all the illegal sob stories on a daily basis, pages and pages. Then, we have to
play a 'guessing game' of who did what.
Because dare we not offend an illegal alien.
And the two newspapers are good for cleaning car windows and mirrors.

I'm tired of polical correctness
And the endless crying the blues,
I want a paper that I can read
And one that doesn't print SNOOZE!!!

Good day!

I do prefer getting the newspaper in print as opposed to reading it on line. To those who say why pay for the paper when you can read it on line for free, you pay an ISP subscription of some kind to access the internet so it is not totally free. I think the quality of articles in print was much higher than the majority of most articles on the web version. Now, my reason for not getting the newspaper delivered anymore is a simple one: customer service for delivery has deteriorated and I refuse to give business to those companies who repeatedly telemarket to me during my peaceful evening hours, which this newspaper did in earnest for about a year. They even delivered the paper to me on a free trial offer for two weeks when i did not want it. I was on vacation and came home to find two weeks worth of newspapers all over my driveway. They have forgotten, like many businesses, to listen to what the customer really wants. It sure isn't to have some idiot fling papers all over my driveway for two weeks, not noticing that they are not being retrieved and piling up everywhere.

They seem to favor Al Gore and others global warming enviromental , (The SKY IS FALLING!!! ) warnings,so I think everyone should cancel their subscriptions with both papers to save our enviroment.

Or at least cancel them because the probably hire illegals to do the work americans won't do. Cancel both subscriptions to protest their support for illegals.

At least if both newspapers were cancelled they might have to cut back on staff. My favorites to go are, Tina Griego,Mike Littwin,Torkelson,Penny Parker,Johnson. The only one I would definately keep is Vincent Carroll.

In general newspapers are liberal. Many years ago I caught the media not telling the truth on the gun issue. At that time I said I would never buy a newspaper. Many people started listening to talk radio and calling in to get the truth out to the public.I think the media shot itself in the foot and now they are paying the price.

I got fed up with Denver and its liberal papers years ago. I cancelled both my subscriptions. THe libs will never learn...fair and balanced is a winner. I want the simple facts....the truth...with no left-wing slant. Good night drive-by media.

Truth with no left-wing slant? Where do you get your news from? Fox? NewsMax? Holy crap, if you think the Rocky is liberal, then you must think the Wall Street Journal is liberal!

yes, why spend any money to read filtered AP stories when it is free on the internet, maybe if there was

Roy is right. These newspapers are mostly AP/Reuters stories with some local fluff and mediocre local columnists tossed into the mix.

I'm waiting for my subscription to run out. What a waste of paper.

The newspaper as a medium does not have to die though. Just the current content that is printed on it. I have a lot of ideas on how to make newspapers relevant again. Perhaps, one of these days, I'll write some of them down and offer it to the RMN.

I'm surprised the newspaper hasn't evolved into something a bit more relevant. I think the current batch of editors and columnists are a bit too over-the-hill for this business.
