A DIFFERING VIEW: Doctors need to operate in the open, too
Thank you for making my Sunday morning amusing when I read the Rocky editorial “Secrecy and judges.” The opinion that judges should be held to a higher standard is correct. What I found tragically omitted, however, is that other professions are shielded from disclosure as well.
Have you ever tried to look up a physician in Colorado for past grievances? Have you ever tried to actually complain about a misguided (or unethical) physician? Let me tell you, it’s a farce.
Everything is super secret — including the physician’s reply or lack of reply to a complaint. You literally have to have a doctor stand up and say “Yep, I killed him all right” before the board of medical examiners will sanction a physician in this state (and maybe not even then).
Doctors can do whatever they want, whenever they want and there is absolutely no accountability. You think complaints against judges should be disclosed? I submit that a judge may take away your license, your freedom or even your money. But a doctor can kill you without any consequences to his license whatsoever — and live to kill another day.
How about some accountability (and less shielding from liability) for doctors?

You are so right . Dr.'s think they can do whatever harm they can because they are untouchable,and they are.
Getting bad Dr.'s out of practice is impossible. That is why their malpractice insurance rates are so high.Not because of the many lawsuits but because they can be sued,lose and still practice.So these morons that keep practicing raise the malpractice fees for everyone practicing.
There are some frivolous lawsuits no doubt about it.I am willing to bet for every frivolous lawsuit there are 5 more that go unfiled. I can think of three lawsuits I could have brought against Dr.'s in my lifetime.
I have lived here for 12 years and have had some of the worst Dr.'s I have ever come across in my lifetime.
The medical profession and their mistakes and records need to be brought out in the public eye so we know who not to go to.
I'll tell everyone about one Dr. to stay away from.
His name is Dr.Walker and he is a gastrologist and does colonoscopy's at N. Denver Surgery Center on N. Washington St. in Northglenn.Also works for Rocky Mountain Gastrology in the same building. I call him Dr. Death he flat out killed my mother.

You might want to watch that unless you are ready and able to fight it in court.

I am living proof and have fought for my life after having a hysterectomy performed by the Dr. who is posted in the Rocky Mtn. news on June 19th. Dr. Douglas kirkpatrick is his name. He had left a sponge inside of me for 19 mo. Its been a four year battle. I have been bedridden since shortly after the surgery in 2003. I was a 44 year old woman who had a lot of life to live. He has slowly murdered me. He even admitted to me that he was the capton of the ship and took full responsibility. What a Crock. Copic ins. companies are who the Dr,`s in this State is ins. with. A regular person does not have the money to fight this KILLER ins. group. How a human can go to sleep at night knowing that he has took someones life, the pain and suffering every minute of the day is beyond any thing I can comprehend. COPIC ins. co. will fight to keep any bad marks off a Dr.s record, so the public has no idea who is the good guys out there are.It is MURDER, and you are right. They can continue to take a persons life, for better words MURDER and get away with it. Between fighting this battle and trying to recoup some money to be able to keep my home has been the hardest thing I have ever endured in my life. Wondering each day if I will be homeless. I am so sick that somedays wish god would just take me as I cannot suffer any longer. Dr. Douglas Kirkpatrick will pay his dues one day and also the CRIMINAL ins. Co. NAMED, COPIC INS.
