Time to take back our cities from the gangs
Regarding the June 14 Rocky Mountain News article, “Gangs at City Park Jazz spur officials to action,” how many of us have had our heads buried in the sand, and for how long? This culture of savages has infiltrated the Front Range for a while now (try walking through LoDo some weekend night and see how safe you feel). The gang tags and graffiti scrawls that are appearing everywhere and scarring the appearance of one of the most beautiful cities in the country are appalling.
It’s time to quit coddling these vermin, step up and take it back.
I have to laugh when I hear these pieces of filth talk about their “territory” or read about the stunt they pulled at City Park. I don’t know about the rest of you, but I work to pay my mortgage (or rent), that’s how we stake our territory (home). Not simply by claiming it with a can of spray paint or some cowardly display of numbers to some innocent concertgoers and families. I wish I would have known they would be all together that night at the park doing their little intimidation parade, I would have brought a big net.
Find out what you can do locally in your neighborhood, report gang activity and graffiti ASAP. As for the city governments of the area, please do not overlook this problem any longer, round ’em up, lock ’em up, throw away the keys.

Commit the Colorado National Guard for a couple of years (if its legal) have a coordinated effort with the police departments of the counties affected most with gang problems. Patrol the streets where these gangs hang out..round em up or dis-band them when violence or the threat of violence is evident!
With local police and soldiers on their butts 24-7 they may just think twice. If the gangs threaten the Guard with bodily harm (which they will) have standing orders to "shoot to kill! Officials need to take strong-arm measures to combat these street punks anyway they can! I am sure there are better less expensive ideas out there....but, something can and should be done SOON!

The leaders of Denver are wussies. They are afraid of the gangs and the police don't want to serve and protect. So the gangs thrive on fear from the city and the people.
The only reason they are trying to do something is the DNC coming to Denver.
All is not well in The Mile High City.
Posted by Can I get an AMEN! on June 28, 2007 09:50 AMKJ-your description of the gang problem is spot-on,although the solution you propose is likely never to happen. Here's why: The government in general and its enforcement divisions in particular have no duty to protect any individual or his property. What they do have is blanket discretion to enforce or not enforce whatever laws presently exist.Indeed, the centuries-old legal principle of sovereign immunity holds that government and its agents have unlimited discretion to break any law at any time for any (or no) reason.....The practical result to us ordinary folks is that from government's perspective there's no reason to crack down on gangs unless their doings (like murdering a Denver Bronco)cause public outrage OR unless they break the unspoken truce and attack the police.
It'd be a breath of fresh air if District Attorney Morrissey and his brother wizards up in the sky would simply tell us that it's our problem, not government's.Then get out of the way and let us solve it.
That goes double for illegals.
