A flaw in the ointment
On Page 22 of the June 30 Rocky Mountain News there was a story about an interim committee of the state legislature established to study the backlog of state services for developmentally disabled adults (“Panel to target backlog of disabled adults in need”).
In the story, it states that, “Rep. Michael Garcia, D-Aurora, ... sponsored the resolution that created the interim committee comprised of 10 state flawmakers, five from each chamber.”
Do you think that they had a tough time finding enough flawmakers in the legislature?
Thad Tecza, Denver
So it is important to write a letter pointing out how "bad" the legislature is all the while ignoring the issue of getting aid to families with developmentally disabled adults. I personally know a family with a 23 year old autistic boy and this issue isn't a joke to them. They desperately need some help and are grateful that Michael Garcia is trying to get legislators involved. What are the odds that Mr. Tecza is a fanatical "Pro-Life" supporter who has no problems turning his back on families that have to deal with a permanently disabled children. It is disgrace to use these families as the butt of a joke for those who hate our government.
Posted by Wes on July 4, 2007 05:53 AMWell for gosh sakes Wes, write em a check. Help em out. Problem solved.
Posted by R on July 4, 2007 06:09 AMgee wes if the government you love and want to support everyone is so good why are they draging this out? I dont think thad was making any one the butt of a joke except for the government and showing how they always have to form a committee to wipe their sorry butts.
as far as your pro-life statement goes you must be upset that your friends didnt select to abort 23 years ago.
committee=window dressing for government to look like they care about anything.
I see that R and 06:35AM have come out of their holes to make fools of themselves once again.
While I agree that Wes had no grounds for attacking Thad, who apparently just wanted to have fun, he was well on target for bringing up the importance of the legislation to help developmentally disabled adults. R and 06:35 should take advantage of such legislation.
Posted by Truth on July 4, 2007 06:58 AMI just might truth. What's your address again? Just want to make sure the rubber room attendants get the right guy. I'll bet the head doctors are already looking forward to spending a little time with someone who calls himself "truth".
Posted by R on July 4, 2007 07:06 AMCalling truth. Charles B, where are you. Bingo Bongo, you out riding your European motorcycle today? Maybe you're hanging out over at the KOS searching for some comfort talk?
Posted by R on July 4, 2007 08:58 AMSo he invented a cute term, flaw maker. Then like most consevatives, he used it to death in one letter.
Autism isn`t a condition that shows up before birth on an ultrasound.
R and unknown, go get a dictionary and look up "smirky jerks".
Posted by Sharon B. on July 4, 2007 09:25 AMI know a family that has been recieving Social Security disabled benefits for decades.
It started with the mother who recieved benefits for her daughter because she was "slow" in school. Then she went on to have 2 children by 2 different fathers and then she started recieving benefits for her and her 2 "slow" children. Both children graduated form high school.
She is more than capable of working but chooses not too so she won't lose her gravy train. Her children now 18 and 19 are capable of working but their mother won't let them because she will lose their benefits.
My brother lives with them and they have been together for about 10 years. He makes good money at least $2,000 and up a month and she recieves $1900 from social security per month.Since other agencies don't know about the income provided by my brothe she gets food stamps, free food at food banks, her utilities paid, and housing help.
They live high on the hog. Big screen TV,all the latest video game systems and games ,every new DVD that comes out ,nice computer with big screen and high speed internet, and a brand new car every 2 years.
I found out the mother started a web page for her daughter that has the emotional ability of a 15 year old,on MYSpace. She was screening men ages 25 und up for her daughter to date. Her daughter has been on a few dates with men as old as 35 and 40. The mother tries to find out if they make good money before she lets her daughter date them. When I found out this was going on I asked her why is she letting her daughter sleep with these men and doesn't have her on birth control. Her answer was she thought her daughter was old enough to decide to go on birth control and she wanted a grandchild.
Keep in mind the daughter has the emotional capacity of a 15 year old and still plays with barbies.
I called a Foundation that deals with abuse of disabled adults and turned the mother in. I don't know if they did anything or not and have cut all ties with her and my brother who supports this abuse. If the daughter gets pregnant she will qualify for more benefits as well as her child.
These people disgust me and I hope someone will step in and save this girl from her mother's madness.More than likely they won't and my tax money will go to these leeches. They are white americans and a disgrace.
Sharon B. I don't need to look up the term smirky jerks. Take a look around. It's already well defined by truth, Grouchy boy, drew and of course, the smartest guy in the room ..... bango bongo skank.
Posted by R on July 4, 2007 11:58 AMCan I get an AMEN
Good god and I thought my family was wacky!
While you may not be able to judge if the kids are "slow", turn them in for welfare fraud.
Contact the IRS too because they sound like people who won`t declare all their income.
If food stamp workers know the man lives there, they will figure his income into the mix. I bet they don`t know.
Give them a call.
Posted by Sharon B. on July 4, 2007 12:00 PMI agree that it is important to report fraud and/or abuse to the appropriate authorities. The local social services agency should have little trouble documenting who is living at the residence and how much income is being declared. They can face criminal charges and be required to repay food stamps and cash benefits received through fraud.
No one should get to take advantage of taxpayers' generosity.
Talk about getting into someones business.......!
Posted by Evelyn Mercer on July 4, 2007 11:59 PMThose who abuse the very system "we, the people" have set up for those who are truely disabled should be exposed.....that makes it my business, Evelyn. If you want to subsidize this family, pony up your name and address and we'll just let you take care of them, the rest of us will then "mind our own business......"
Posted by -J- on July 5, 2007 10:14 AMSharon B., I did call the welfare fraud office and turned her in. I also called Leep which hands out free utilitity money.
Like I say I don't know what happened afterwards but my brother has stopped talking to me which is fine by me.
The one I was most concerned about was the daughter. Her mother was pimping her on MySpace and I was so angry I turned her in for anything I could think of.
As for the IRS I didn't get to them because there are some forms I have to download and I have to have SS# so I didn't do that.
I am so disgusted by her and her entire family. Her mother is on SS , All her sisters have babies by different men and are on welfare, her cousins are on welfare, her mother who is now a lesbian, her partner is on welfare and SS.
They only one that works in the entire family that I know of is my brother. It is disgusting.
I have turned them into the proper authorities, but more than likely they talked their way out of it.That's all I can do.
P.S. It's been my experience that these kind of people blatantly broadcast their prowess at working the system, so they make their business my business....and it's a "FLY in the ointment"...geez.
Posted by -J- on July 5, 2007 10:16 AMAmen. Let us look for the bright side here, although we will need X-ray vision to find it.
There have always been people like this, before welfare they would probably have been prostitutes and spreading even more diseases.
Go watch "The Gangs of New York" for a look at how the lower classes lived and see the resemblance.
We need to keep them honest, at least when there are children they need help, but would taking them away and into foster homes have been any better? Some problems and some problem families do not have any easy solution.
Keep at it though. we taxpayers salute you.
still there are people who need our help, lets find them.
One thing though, if the adult girl is mentally 15, then she is "slow".
