A refreshing change
In a recent article on campaign fund-raising in Colorado (“Obama on a roll with Colo. Donors,” July 16), it was reported that Barack Obama has raised almost $1 million in Colorado since the first of the year.
This is over $400,000 more than any other presidential candidate, Democratic or Republican.
What makes this statistic even more incredible is that Obama has said he will not take money from lobbyists or from political action committees.
What a refreshing change!

What a shame it isn't true
Posted by on July 24, 2007 04:22 AMkatie you are the type of person he is looking for, who will believe anything he says.
I bet you are just jumping up and down that he is all for sex ed for 4-5 year olds. joyce elders is going to help him with that one.
What two 'genuises 'you 2 'no names' are. What Katie wrote has been on the internet, TV and newspapers. Could you two conversative Repukicans ( speaking of liars!) care to share with the rest of the world your deep insight in this? Or is it you just feel threatened by the idea of America finally having an intelligent non-hillbilly leader?
Posted by jimd4X4 on July 24, 2007 06:52 AMObama does not take PAC money or money from lobbyists.
That's a fact.
Obama admitted last night that he has accepted donations from "bundlers", persons or groups who raise money on his behalf from individuals or groups.
He is a huge advocate for taking the power from special interests groups and giving it back to the people.
I will be voting for Obama. What he lacks in experience he makes up for in fresh ideas and a sincerity that is almost alien in politics.
Posted by Thomas on July 24, 2007 09:33 AMwow 2x2 do you really mean that a politician with his lips moving is not lying? for all of the libs who want to tax the rich and its the riches fault for everything start looking at some of your liberal leaders as there are more millionaire dems in congress than GOP. obama like any other wanta be will take money from any one, or group, or interest out there just so they can go around and tell you what you want to hear. did you happen to think that while all of these politicans getting out there to get your vote are supose to be in DC working for you? doesnt matter what side of the party line they are on they all do it. shows how much they care about the public but really shows their egos on how impotant they think they are.
yep obama has a lot of fresh ideas straight from his school days is jakarta. but lets not talk about his background that is kept hush hush.
The anonymous Republic*nt posters on this board show that Bushbots can only improve the world by leaving it.
Posted by Chimploversarescum on July 24, 2007 12:39 PMWow! I am amazed that a single comment about fundraising ethics would elicit such emotion! I am sorry to see individuals forming such a negative opinion about Senator Obama without knowing much about him.
I had the opportunity to meet the senator at a book signing at Tattered Cover Book Store last Fall. We were there getting Christmas presents for my in-laws. I am a registered Independent and have voted for more Republicans than Democrats in my lifetime. I was very cynnical about politicians and in the past my only option was to pick the candidate who I disliked the least.
The crowd at the Tattered Cover was diverse. Old, young, Black, White, male, female, etc. Senator Obama's speech was electrifying. He spoke of the founding of our nation and how the Founding Fathers had to go beyond the status quo to even become an independent nation. He spoke about how he believes the American people are not so far apart on issues as the political parties would like you to believe. He was compassionate, articulate, and very very real. The crowd was blown away by this man. Even the media present were nodding their heads as he spoke.
I decided that day to get involved. We as Americans can take back this country from slick politician's agendas and Washington politics as usual. We first need a leader who can unite this country and improve our relations with the rest of the world. We as Americans deserve this from our next President. I strongly feel that Senator Obama is this person.
The "politics as usual' folks are pretty darn nervous about this candidate. If the only thing they can dig up on him is that when he was a young child living overseas, he went to a public school that educated children of all faiths, he's as good as elected!

Wow idiot. Do some research. His mother sent him to a Catholic school for as long as she could afford to do so. The other school that he attended was religiously affiliated but did not preach any doctrine nor was it much different than any American public school. All the major news stations investigated the school and found that the attack on Obama's past (not surprisingly launched by Fox news) was moot and ill-founded. All the networks (including Fox) dropped the story and admitted that they had been wrong. Quite honestly, if that's the best that you can dig up on the man, then I think the country will be doing very well under his leadership. And for the record, he is not accepting PAC money nor contributions from lobbyists. He is NOT like other politicians in that regard and that is what makes him so spectacular. After all, you have to be a pretty charismatic and passionate individual to attract over 30 million dollars from 250,000 people in half of a year this early in the race. And I'm proud to say that I have contributed to that number. Because PACs and lobbyists have not.
