Leroy M. Martinez of Denver writes:

In today’s Rocky Mountain Newspaper on page 8a. They have a dog from Kuwait that has three legs. It seem to me they the U.S. Government want to help people and now pets from other countries before they help our own people and pets in the U.S.

Leroy,

As usual it seems that you have way too much time on your hands.

Yeah! How typical of liberals...

"Yeah! How typical of liberals..."

No, I don't have a dog from Kuwait with 3 legs.

Posted by drew on July 5, 2007 02:39 PM

Why not Drew are you a bigot about 3 legged dogs from Kuwait.............(jk)
Agree with you though Drew.....about too much time on the authors hands.........errrr is that too much time on our hands for responding.........but hey just giving you crap

Posted by bwr on July 5, 2007 02:51 PM

bwr

hey...crap is good. I have a little less time than Leroy since my response was only one sentence. Uno, like Leroy, can't seem to put together anything coherent, though- at least I understand the gist of what Leroy was trying to say!

It’s a PR ploy to show how nice Americans are, and probably comes out of a right-wing think-tank.
Nice idea, but I suspect that the Arab and Islamic world may receive a different message to what was sent.

Us: “see what nice people we are, we’ll even fly one of your injured dogs out and fix it”
Them: “see how little the Americans think of Iraqi and other Muslims, they will help a dog before they help us”

Posted by Bango Skank on July 5, 2007 03:31 PM

Drew, try to grow a real brain on that stem! It is typical of liberals to politicize even a dog from Kuwait, Bango proved my point. What, you guys see a vast right wing conspiracy even in a dog? That is what's typical. The sad thing is that I had to explain this to you, Drew.

Posted by Uno on July 5, 2007 03:50 PM

Now lets not be rude here. The dog's name is Sally.

Sally was found by Progressive Animal Welfare Society. From its website origination, would assume a Nonprofit. Saved site but have not read yet.

So this would not be a US govt doing or wanting anything as it pertains to Sally.

There are Animal rescue groups in the US rescuing pets all over the world. Hell my neighbor has an Org rescuing dogs from Mexico.

Obviously Mr Martinez has enough time on his hands to write daily letters but does not research them.....errrr is that he hopes WE DONT?

Posted by bwr on July 5, 2007 03:53 PM

Other than Sally being a 3 legged dog from Kuwait, this Letter is bogus. At least from the actual article referenced and the Org that rescued Sally.

Heck it even looks like PAWS even fought the Navy and PAWS won.

Posted by bwr on July 5, 2007 04:35 PM

"So this would not be a US govt doing or wanting anything as it pertains to Sally.

My apologies then, I thought it was taxpayer money, and therefore administration involvement.

What I said about how this is likely to be seen by Arab and Muslim countries still stands though.

Posted by Bango Skank on July 5, 2007 06:49 PM

Bango, where do you see that PAWS is paid by taxpayer $$$ From what I see it is a private non profit organization based in the Northwest. And if it is like any of the Non Profit Pet rescue organizations that my wife and I are part of, those orgs could give a flip what any human thinks. It is not about he humans. It is about the animals. I am in process of tracking where donations are coming from. Not seeing any govt or taxpayer $$$

And if you look through their list of accomplishments, do not think they side with the US Govt as a general rule

Posted by bwr on July 5, 2007 07:00 PM

Spoke too soon. Here is statement from the PAWS website.

"PAWS receives no government funding for our wildlife rehabilitation work. We rely entirely on donations from people who love wild animals – people just like you! "

That is their statement Have you happened to find other that contradicts their statement? If so would love to see

Their site is www.paws.org

Posted by bwr on July 5, 2007 07:03 PM

Sorry did not finish Bango. Thanks in advance if you find something different than what they say. As we work with a few groups like this, always nice to keep up on finding if all are being honest and forthright

Posted by bwr on July 5, 2007 07:06 PM

Leroy,
You are so right!

Posted by Americans First! on July 6, 2007 12:28 AM

Yes Leroy got the 3 legged dog correct. The rest is pretty much wrong, but Yes Sally the dog has 3 legs, but the Govt is not doing this, PAWS is, unless Leroy has other information he did not share and the PAWS site is wrong about donations. But in all of Leroys detail in this letter, that small piece is missing.

Posted by bwr on July 6, 2007 07:48 AM

Also why is Leroy picking on Sally and not the 12+M illegal aliens in this country. It is ok for the illegals to be taken care of but once Sally reaches these shores, all hell is breaking loose and 1 3-legged Soluki is the straw that broke the camel's back

Posted by bwr on July 6, 2007 10:34 AM

I would rather the dog get assistance than some scummy, dirty, American hating Arab. With all that oil money sloshing around the Mid-East, they can take care of their own amputees, which are probably the result of Shia vs. Sunni violence.
Why is America spending so much blood and treasure in trying to keep these animals, and I mean no insult to that three-legged dog in the comparison, from killing each other?
Pull out now and those two groups will be killing each other enmass and it will a whole lot less terrorists to worry about.

Posted by Bill on July 6, 2007 10:40 AM

Bill are you saying that our soldiers are partly over there to save the dogs too? Are the Navy Seals hording dogs now? This was a private non-profit organization that rescued that cares and pays for that dog. Paid for by donations given to PAWS. It has nothing to do with the war in the Middle East. This and many other organizations do this throughout the world. Organizations do this for humans also.

Posted by bwr on July 6, 2007 10:47 AM

I would rather save the dogs than the Arabs. Did you know Muslims consider the dog to be filthy and not suitable as a pet? Just one more reason to not like Arabs.
Yes I know that pulling US troops out of Iraq will lead to further death and injuries among the dog population there, but that is a burden we must live with. As for the Arabs, well look at this way, they will be much happier with their virgins and honey in the afterlife than here on Earth since many of them feel that life is not worth living and it is better to blow themselves up along with a crowded market place than live yet another dreary day in an Arabic country. God if I had to live a life as a Muslim I would be suicidal too..

Posted by Bill on July 6, 2007 10:58 AM

Bill did you know the Soluki is the exception to that. Per the RMN article that Leroy was referencing

"The Saluki occupies a unique position in the lives of its Eastern, often Muslim, owners. Ordinary dogs are considered 'unclean' and may not be touched, but the Saluki is permitted into the tents of nomads and the courtyards of settled breeders. Prior to and during the 10th century, hunting poetry extolled not only the prowess of the breed in the chase but its physical attributes and companionship. The Saluki retains this esteem even today and continues to be valued and used for hunting in most of the regions where it traditionally worked, side by side with its master, as a source of pleasure for its beauty and athleticism."Saluki Club Of America

I never advocated the troops being there or coming home to have any affect on the pet population, nor am I standing up for the Arab population.
My only contention really with this thread is that the author said that the US Government was doing this. This is not true.
Being conservative mindset, it is my contention that an American citizen can spend their private money funding groups like this, regardless of where it is in the world

North American Indians got it right, if a dog became an unusable, it became dinner. A social tradition that causes me to wonder if in that same tradition might be a clue as to the solution for those who depend solely on public tax money for their existence when they are perfectly capable of working for a living and who request nay, demand, in name of God, they be given the right to exist with all the same amenities those who work for them have. Lord knows I'm not suggesting they become dinner but, somewhere in the back of my mind I think the Indians just maybe might of had an answer befitting those types of unuseables as well.

Honey, guess what? We have a dinner date. No need for the Food stamps tonight! Lets get the kids cleaned up a bit and head on over for dinner. Where? The Donners have been gracious enough to envite the whole family. They say it is a community BBQ...................

hehehehe

Just a passing thought, one of those things that come to you from you don't know where. No need for comment or analysis

Posted by Allen Campbell on July 6, 2007 11:54 AM

Hell they need to save that dog anyways......Definately not in any shape to eat yet.........

OH Cmon for those that are going to blast this. I am as big a dog lover and contributer to orgs like this as any can be.............

When I read this in a post: "God if I had to live a life as a Muslim I would be suicidal too..", I recalled how I had heard a number of times that the seven million or so Muslims in America are generally a good bit more successful educationally and financially than most Americans. I thought I'd research that a bit and came up with this.

From http://www.allied-media.com/AM/ but the same statistics show up on many other websites. The information is from surveys by Cornell University and Zogby International in 2000.

American Muslims are Well-Educated

* 67% of American Muslims have a Bachelor's degree or higher
* 44% of Americans have a Bachelor’s degree or higher3
* The Variance for Advanced Degrees is even greater.

................................AMERICAN.............ALL
................................MUSLIMS................AMERICANS
Advanced Degree..42.7%..............................8.6%
Bachelor’s..............35.2%.............................35.1%
Some College.........9.5%..............................32.3%
High School...........10.1%..............................18.9%
No HS Diploma........2.4%................................4.7%

"American Muslims are Affluent

* U.S. Average income is $42,158 per year (U.S. Census 2000)
* 66% of American Muslim HH's earn over $50,000 / year
* 26% of American Muslim HH's earn over $100,000 / year
* Annual Household Income range for American Muslims:

Under $25,000.........13%
$25K-50K.................21%
$75K-100K...............18%
$100K-150K..............14%
$150K-250K................7%
Over $250K..................5%

* Top Ten Muslims occupations:

Student.............................20.2%
Engineer...........................12.4%
Physician/Dentist..............10,8%
Homemaker......................10.0%
Programmer.......................7.0%
Corporate Manager............6.4%
Teacher..............................6.4%
Small Business Owner......4.4%
Researcher........................4.1%
Admin. Assistant................2.8%

I tried to find out what the HH means but could not.

Please keep any comments about Muslim physicians short and to the point.
