Careful what you teach
Monday, July 2 at 12:01 AM

The incredible buzz about Paris Hilton going to jail has cast an amazing light on this country’s sociological and psychological makeup.
How can adults be so incredibly angry about one child’s mistakes? Traditions throughout history find the elders teaching, guiding and supporting the youth. Children learn by what they see. Unfortunately the children in this country are being taught to judge harshly, seek acts of revenge and justify hating each other for a wide array of infringements.
Perhaps the elders, the leaders and teachers might pause for a moment and look down the road a few years when the judgment, revenge and hatred they have taught so well will be enacted upon them. Very sad!

At 26, that is one extended childhood.

does 'elders, the leaders, and teachers' include her parents or are they not allowed to be held accountable?
oh thats right we had a book by a politican that told us it takes a village to raise a child. hey we did a good job with this one didnt we?

maybe we should go back to the values that parents have a responsibility in raising their children. nah its the governments role to take care of us craddle to grave.

Vonda Knox, you said:

Thanks for keeping the "buzz" going...

Well, what do you expect in a country that put an old B grade movie class Hollywood has-been ham in the White House for 8 years?

Posted by on July 2, 2007 09:12 AM

And it was a GREAT 8 years

JW,

So? Why don't you add Paris Hilton to the current slate of Republican Presidential candidates then?

You could run her against Hillary Clinton, for instance. On the level of competency, Paris Hilton wouldn't stand a chance, of course. But on the level of attraction to the conservative voters, she might even come in by a landslide.

Perhaps someone could explain why Paris Hilton got locked up and fellow DUI Mel Gibson got a slap on the wrist--if that--last year. Perhaps Ms. Hilton would have been more highly regarded if she had asked her arresting officer if he was Jewish (as Mel did).

6:36,
The politician who wrote the book you mention did indeed raise a fine, upstanding American daughter as an example for the supposed "moral' conservatives who let the illegal nanny do that job, eg; the two drunken sluts in the White House, and Jeb Bush's druggie daughter.....(I think that one probably was following the fine example set by Rush Limpbow.)

Mel was DUI, Paris was DUI and suspended license. And didn`t she show up late for court or am I confusing her with someone else.?

BS, she kind of pushed the legal systems face in it, don`t ya think?

"an amazing light on this country’s sociological and psychological makeup."

Actually, what it casts a light on is the incredible amount of vacuous crap that adults in this country spend globs of their valuable time on. You turn on CNN in prime time & what you get is Larry King waffling on for an hour about the incredible foibles of some airhead in Hollywood (Paris Hilton, Britney Spears, Mel Gibson, etc) - like one giant installment of People magazine.

No wonder the average American is so ignorant about the outside world.

Thank goodness for the BBC!

So it's okay to drive drunk as long as your license is valid?

Actually, the whole lot of 'em should have been made to pick up garbage like Boy George was. Community service is cheaper to the taxpayer than jail time.

Paris would die before she would wear those orange suits.

Sharon

Mark your calendar too. I agree that Paris pushed it. And she got punished. But I had to be one of those few who said "Paris who?" Guess I gotta start watching national news once a week. I did manage to skip the written accounts.

Should be a way to convince the news outlets we want information, not entertainment.

I don't know what to make of your letter. The only part i can agree with is: "Children learn by what they see."

What they see is a celebrity crazed media that covers 26 year old adolescents like Paris, Britney, Nicole, etc. non-stop as if they are very important people.

Is it any wonder our kids then want to emulate those that they see getting all this attention? Emulate the way they look and the way they ACT. Spoiled brats that feel that society's rules don't apply to them.

"Unfortunately the children in this country are being taught to judge harshly, seek acts of revenge and justify hating each other for a wide array of infringements."

Isn't that a bit of hyperbole? Maybe Paris got a bit more punishment in the end than the average citizen in California but that says more about the justice system in California than much else.

That ordinary folks are tired of watching the rich and famous get away with stuff that we, ourselves would pay for with jail time does not surprise you, does it?

Sounds to me that to you, Paris is just, ...like, .....misunderstood. Poor baby.

She grew up in a broken home.

I'm not much on the Paris Hilton hype and know very little about her. I watched about 10-minutes of her gig on Larry King and, surmising from the depth and shallowness of her answers figured her to be all of 17 years old, 19 tops. When I later learned she was 26 I about fell out.

This "woman" is a moron.

The next day at work one of the guys brought me a flash drive containing her feature flick "1 Night in Paris."

Not only is she an air head, but she's a porn queen to boot... and a lousy one at that.

Just watching miscellaneous news clips is enough to convince me that Paris was never held responsible for her actions growing up. (Didn't her mother laugh out loud at her sentencing?)

I'm sure raising children in a privileged world presents its own challenges, but it sure looks like her parents missed a few important lessons along the way.

Actually, Paris would look great in one of those orange suits. So, for that matter, would Mel: it would match his orange face.

Paris is the result of artificial insemination...you know "spare the rod spoil the child."
