Celebrating the firing
It seemed to take a decade, but I can finally celebrate the firing of Ward Churchill.
The July 25 Rocky Mountain News cover photo showing Churchill in his cute American Indian Movement T-shirt and his raised, clenched fist brought a huge smile to my face.
In the related article (“Churchill fired; next shot in court,” July 25), Churchill, commenting on his firing, was quoted as saying, “That’s a farce, but more than that, it’s a fraud.”
Well, if anyone can recognize a fraud and a farce, it’s Churchill.
Bye-bye, Wardy, you shall not be missed!

Posted by on July 26, 2007 05:59 AMYou sound as stupid as my wife. Why did it take the University 3 years to read his published essay? I would want the regents to actually check out and read ALL professors publications if you wnat the school to have any integrity. Or is it possible the Regents cant read or comprehened an essay untill someone tells them what its about and what to think? If he plagarized, fire him..but I think this is more about Free speech and the lack off it.
Finding a jury with single digit IQs will be easy, afterall this IS Colorado, home of Nazi fascist warmongers...ooops I meant conservative Republicans who will vote and judge according to whatever the Party tells them too, and take away all of our rights (well, not the 2nd amendment of course, the onlly legituimate one on the Bill of Rights). Sieg Heil!!!!!!!
like you dumocrats don't vote as your fearfull leaders tell you to jimdumbo4x4 teeth. I'm sure you think for yourself though don't you? That is why you would make such a stupid comment as that. If we are such fascist warmongers in Colorado why don't you move to Vermont or Massachusetts? Mr. Churchills freedom of speech rights were not violated but his so called right to cheat ,lie and steal others work has been removed. Good riddance, why don't you go over Wardy boys house and hold hand and sing kumbaya.
Posted by Jack Bauer on July 26, 2007 07:25 AMAcademic integrity is crucial in any reputable institutions. Apparently Mr. Churchill was not completely honest in his works. If that was the case, which it apparently was, he may deserve what he got. However, it is in no way a cause for "celebration", in any way, shape or form. Those who do "celebrate" are those whose concern is not that "academic integrity" but rather political or that they were offended by some of his remarks. In that sense, they are themselves frauds, and the worst kind of all. To now claim themselves "vindicated" is the height of hypocrisy, and to present themselves as being concerned with defenders of the integrity of academia is a sham. Most of the most vocal had already made up their minds even prior to the investigation. Of the two, Mr. Churchill, or these so-called "zealots", I would much prefer the former as he is far less dangerous and not nearlly as hypocritical.
Posted by Robert I. Laitres on July 26, 2007 07:37 AMWard Churchill would still be an obscure professor at CU if the "little Eichmann" remarks weren't whined about by a snot-nosed little republican New York student, and subsequently seized upon by the fascist corporate-owned media desperate to shift attention from their failed little war in Iraq.
We need to understand that the Fascist bastards that have wrapped themselves in Old Glory are still Fascists bastards. And, unfortunately, their followers don't appear to be smart enough to understand how Hitler came to power so easily.

Man asks God: Why did you make women so pretty and desireable and God answers so you would like them my son: And man asks, but why did you make them so dumb and stupid and God answers: So they would like you, my son.
Deicide Corner: Faith in God implies a lack of faith in humanity.
Subject matter: "Wardy" will become a ward of the state in excess of $70,000 yearly. What's his Eichman gripe?

Posted by An American on July 26, 2007 11:30 AMIt always interests me when Conservatives are decried as fascists as that is a far left protocol along with socialists and communists.
I also fin it amazing that the far left will actually crawl out of their holes and defend a whckjob like Churchill. I dont care how he made it to the attention as that is incidental as someone weaving down the street is pulled over and the backseat is full of drugs. Just because he was brought to the spotlight for what he said, does not in any way immunize him from scrutiny. He was found to be a plaigiarist, a liar and a total fraud. This was why he was fired. Apparently, if he had kept his mouth shut, no one would have questioned him. So what.
So, your rantings that WC was railroaded by some fascists, get a life. He was found out, just like the BTK killer was found out by flapping his gums.
If he was railroaded by fascist, he would have had to been railroaded by tthe hildabeast,.

Posted by on July 26, 2007 12:24 PMWell now. Considering the old definition: "If you steal from one it's plagiarism. If you steal from several - or many - it's scholarship", I wonder how many might also consider this:
It appears that "scholarship" is the heinous offense charged against Churchill; and "scholarship" is the reason Cowlorado U just fired him.
Could that be because he didn't get his "scholarship" from the "right" (wingnut) sources?
