Charles Krauthammer
As Charles Krauthammer of the Washington Post correctly asserts, the counterinsurgency strategy is working in Iraq. Former strongholds of al-Qaida have been effectively routed in Anbar province and Ramadi. According to the New York Times’ John Burns, tribal sheiks have turned against al-Qaida in what is an “astonishing success.” Yet, why is the mainstream media virtually silent about such reports? It is because an American victory would upset the applecart for critics who have been calling for our defeat. In essence, a victory in Iraq would be disastrous for the “we can’t win” liberals, who politicize the war for their own ends.

You know all the replies this letter has received are remarkable. Normally any letter about Iraq would have tons of replies stating how horrible our President is, how bad the war is and how we should pull out. But when faced with the facts these people cannot reply with an intelligent answer.

Posted by on July 20, 2007 02:42 PMKrauthammer is nothing but a right wing shill. You really can't believe anything he writes. Look at his history, (WMD's in Iraq etcetc)
Posted by on July 20, 2007 03:06 PMKrauthammer has been wrong about Iraq from the beginning.
He claimed Iraq was close to possessing nuclear weapons, he claimed that Iraq's reconstruction and future would see explosive growth after the war.
He's just another right wing pundit completely detached from reality, just like Bill Kristol.
We have heard all the good news, read it, seen if on TV, and then we see the rest of the story, every day on the news.
Posted by Sharon B. on July 20, 2007 06:22 PMI sure wish the media would fit in the good news about Iraq in between the reports of car bombings, torture, death squads, gun battles, chlorine gas attacks, sectarian violence, anti-American protests and corruption. Then we would see not all the news is bad. We could witness a primary school being opened before we read about it being blown up because girls were being taught there. As Charles Krauthammer points out, every explosion has a silver lining.
Posted by Sean on July 20, 2007 07:15 PMIt's obvious that thinks are going well in Iraq. Surely the Iraqi parliament wouldn't be taking August off for vacation otherwise, right?
Now, about that essential diplomatic surge, you know, the one to get the parliament to do its part.
It does look like our troops, loaded down in all that equipment, bullet proof vests, and helmets, ought to be permitted a week's vacation, doesn't it? At least, they ought to be allowed to spend a few nights in the air conditioned parliament building while the Iraqis are enjoying cool vacations nights somewhere.
Yeah, but isn't that third leg for success, the replacement of our troops with Iraqi forces, going well?
"The top U.S. commander in Iraq's volatile Anbar province said Friday he believes it will take "another couple of years" to get Iraqi security forces into shape to take the reins there."
Remember when the surge was to be a short term deal?
