Denver watering
So now on channel four, they have an problem. Catching the City and County of Denver watering during the day time. I have lived in Denver for years and have seen the City watering parks during the day all the time and even watering the sidewalks and streets. Just walk down Speer Blvd. around 13th and 7th ave. . I have complained on several occasions but to deft ears. Now all of a sudden, the local news talks about it and the Mayor will step in and fix thing. Hummmm.
This letter has not been edited.
Com'on, its all about the dollar. Denver will continue to water parks, and golf courses. They will then charge the public extra fees to pay for it. Remember when they asked us to reduce water usage. Then they still raised the ratesd because we conserved and they did not make enough money.
Posted by on July 22, 2007 04:13 PMLet me help you all out a little bit here. Denver and Denver Water are two completely different things. Denver Water is a not for profit entity. They raised the rates because they weren't making enough money during the drought to keep the system running. Compare the Denver rates to those of the suburbs and see what a deal you are getting.

As far as the mayor paying attention to things only after the media gets involved...so what else is new? That is the way it is with every issue!
Posted by on July 22, 2007 06:27 PMYeplets look at the sorrounding cities. HMMM, they pay less or not at all for thier water.
Denver and Denver water may be two seperate entities but as for non profiet ....LMFAO. That is not so. They like all are out to make money and they do. If they don't they have mandatory imposed fees to help make money.
Are you allowed to drill youre own well in Denver? NO. you are forced to take their product and pay whatever price they determine, and use it only as they see fit. If your lawn is brown then the city steps in to fine you with a ticket on your lawn. It is another money grab by local government that is being abused.
Look at the Postal service. They are subsidesd and protected by the federal government yet are not a government entity.
Posted by on July 23, 2007 06:36 AMWhat problem does channel 4 have?
Posted by on July 23, 2007 06:58 AMwow, who pays "not at all" for their water??? I want to move there! Check out Aurora and their rates (their water department is PART of the city), check out Thornton, check out Colorado Springs! Denver Water is not subsidised or protected by any government.
Posted by on July 23, 2007 08:29 AMI live in Aurora, and I am only allowed to water three times per week -- always after 6 p.m.
My monthly water bill is usually between $80 and $100 per month for a three-person household.
Aurora has been on watering restrictions for at least three years now, while Denver hasn't had any restrictions at all.
Am I getting a good deal, or am I getting hosed?
Posted by Republican Guy on July 23, 2007 12:13 PMRepublican guy, you are being hosed! Denver bills average $50 every TWO months. So, your $100 monthly bill is 4 times what Denver residents pay. It is complicated to say the least...it has to do with water rights and when those water rights were claimed. Unfortunately, Aurora doesn't have good water rights or enough storage...remember Two Forks???!!
Posted by on July 23, 2007 01:09 PMIt figures. Denver is closer to the mountains, so they can grab all the runoff before it gets out to the plains in Aurora.
If real estate weren't so expensive and cramped in Denver, I might consider moving -- but there are just too many advantages to NOT being close to the office.
