Leroy M. Martinez of Denver writes:

I know that it is illegal to set off fireworks in Denver. Yet last year, while at another person’s house, I saw a firetruck going down the street with firefighters just telling people to stop using fireworks. When the truck was gone, people continued to use fireworks. Why have a law if no one enforces it? People will still set off fireworks if they know nothing will happen to them.

Last year there were people all over my Denver neighborhood setting off all sorts of fireworks, including some large ones. We tried to call the police, but the lines were jammed and we couldn't get through (we were calling the regular number, not 911). No police ever showed up.

It's ridiculous to announce "no fireworks" when the law cannot be enforced.

TL, no police showed up because they were all busy arresting those horrible pot smokers.

Why does there have to be somewhere there to enforce the law that forbids the use of fireworks? Can't people take it upon themselves to be responsible and accountable for their actions? Oh, I forgot, we're talking about a large group of irresponsible, unaccountable, self-entitled losers that have to have their hands held 24/7. That's why they want the police to station themselves on every street corner to enforce the law they can't help but break.

I'm glad that I do not have to live among the whinney ass yuppies that populate Denver anymore. Other than the pro sports teams, everything else in Denver sucks.

LOL, enforcing any laws in this state or country is a MAJOR JOKE. Just look at how this country is running itself into the gutter.

If Bush and Co. feel they do not have to follow the law and the constitution, then neither do we!

Agreed Pam. Betting we will now see new laws established because the old ones could not be followed and administered.

These laws prohibiting fireworks are ignored because they truly are not "Illegal" fireworks...They are "Undocumented" fireworks and since the city of Denver has a sanctuary policy, I would guess these undocumented fireworks are covered under this law. Since, it seems, in my opinion, that here in SW Denver the largest group of lawbreakers setting off undocumented fireworks are the undocumented human beings that don't care about the laws of this country.

Besides--our own president does not respect or follow the laws of our nation...can you really expect those who refuse to learn the language and those who feel beaten down by the political elite to follow any laws in place?

Bring in your pets and water down your lawn so when those that start shooting off these undocumented toys....you will have a little peace of mind knowing you are safe and a law abiding citizen--and you do care about our nation--a nation of laws.
