Freedom
If only we could wake up as a nation and take responsibility for freedom before we lose it completely...
This letter has not been edited.
We already have lost religious freedom.
Posted by on July 11, 2007 01:49 PMWe already have lost religious freedom.
Posted by on July 11, 2007 01:49 PMYes, it was sad when all of the churches were shut down... idiot.
Posted by UYRMN on July 11, 2007 02:53 PMAnd all the church land was taken and their wealth given to the King and.....sorry that was in England. Protestant reformation or King Henry VIII or some other folks.
Wish we could tax church property and make them pay into state unemployment fund, just like other employers.
Posted by Sharon B. on July 11, 2007 04:33 PMFreedom has become a platitude in America. What is freedom, and what protects our liberty?
The United States Constitution protects our freedom. How many spew factoids such as a constitutionally protected right to pursue happiness? How many Americans know what our defining document actually states?
It is easy to say, "Support the troops, they fight for our freedom". But is our freedom in danger from the phantom menace of Islamist Jihad? Or is the constitution in danger of cancellation by an out of control rogue administration?
Than land of the free has become home of the afraid, when 911 struck American consciousness, patriotism morphed into jingo nationalism bent on revenge. A patriot backs his country at all times, and his government when it deserves it.
Posted by Holy Reality on July 11, 2007 04:48 PMLike i said, we are too stupid and lazy to do anything about it!
get used to it getting worse and worse
Posted by Fresh on July 11, 2007 05:01 PMNineteen words ending in ellipses and clumsily conveying an abstruse thought. Are you sure the letter wasn't edited?
Posted by Hans Christian Brando on July 11, 2007 05:19 PMSharon B - Should we tax all charities as corporations too?
Posted by KW on July 11, 2007 05:30 PMKW, no on taxing charities like Rescue Mission, Goodwill, Heifer International, Smile etc.
Tax church ranches, retreats, buildings, apartments rented out, etc.
And make churches pay unemployment insurance so when they fire someone that person has the same advantages as any other worker.
Posted by Sharon B. on July 11, 2007 06:14 PMMy friends and family have always heard me say my favorite saying " It's a free country!"
But really is it ? And for how long? Everyone gets scrutinized for off the wall comments ..like posting a comment..now we're thugs and racists and bigots ,hateful, etc, etc!!
Posted by maria-now -Independent on July 11, 2007 11:52 PM Christians like to spout off that their religion is under fire and being pushed out of American society. That is just not so.
Christians just want everyone else to follow their path. Most Christians believe only in their brand of religion - Catholics, Baptists,
Protestants etc. - that they don't follow their own teachings. Follow Jesus and believe that all people are worthy of love and respect.

If you truly believe this, visit a public school in the wintertime. I really just feel sorry for the children, thanks to a bunch of secularist assholes, there are no more secret Santas and Christmas punch parties.
Posted by on July 12, 2007 08:49 AM School should be secular. Children are required to attend - not so with the many different brands of religion. I remember growing up with Christmas carols in public schools. No where were other religions even mentioned. Only Christianity was allowed in public schools. Now, Christians are bemoaning their loss of exclusivity in schools. This is how it should be. Children may learn from their parents and their churches about their god and the rules of their religions. Schools are mandatory for all children - not just Christian children. It was way past time to stop telling only one side of
different religions.
Schools can have Winter parties and give out friendship gifts. Same effect, no Gods allowed.
There are always solutions to what the Christians whine about, but they are not going to implement any of them so they can boo-hoo.
Schools should be God free zones.
