Larry Manzanares
Friday, July 6 at 2:00 PM

Tom Lahey of Aurora writes:

Well, the media has done it again! Lawrence Manzanares was accused of stealing a laptop from the City of Denver. Big deal! Did he deserve punishment for his crime? If convicted, yes. Was he convicted? He hadn’t even had a trial yet, but the media in this town already had convicted him.
This man was “Ridden” by the press so hard that it drove him to take his own life. Would any other citizen that had possibly stolen a laptop have their face smeared throughout the papers and television? How about a giant mugshot placed on the front page? I think not. This man was dragged through the mud because he was a former judge, and going after this man like a tank full of piranas on a gold fish sells papers. Due to this media pressure, Mr.
Manzanares has left behind a saddened family. How can you people sleep at night? You are a disgrace and his blood is on your hands!

Man get over it.

This man broke the law and lied to try and cover things up. He made the choice to take his own life.....move on....

A man commits a minor crime and puts his career in jeopardy. He then abondons his family by commiting suicide. And all this is the newspapers' and prosecuters' fault? What a joke. Is anyone responsible for their own actions aymore in this who-can-we-blame America we now live in?

Gee, I guess Kobe Bryant, OJ, Clinton, Libbey and others should have committed suicide also. I don't respect these people, but at least they had the guts to fight back. Manzanares took the easy way out and HE left his family behind. It is not anyone's fault but his own.

Why are we still talking about this??? The man is gone!!! Give his family a break and give it a rest!

We keep talking about it because people like Tom Lahey keep writing idiotic letters blaming the media for Larry Manzanares. J and Rick are correct. The sole architect of this tragedy was Manzanares himself. As for the media feeding frenzy, no one seemed to mind too much when it was right wing Christian hypocrite Ted Haggard, or crazy Mark Paschall doing the perp walk on page 1. Where was the public outcry on their behalf? Haggard committed no crime - he was simply exposed for what he was and this is page 1 news???

And a lot of people who regularly chime in on these blogs really didn't mind the "rich boys" at Duke being pilloried by Jesse Jackson, Sharpton, and the pompous PC faculty of Duke University - despite the obvious injustices being committed over the course of a year.

But don't worry, because serial posters like truth, old_grouch, and Richard Grimes will be along soon to tell you all how poor Saint Larry, an innocent victim, was mistreated.

I had no intention and still don't; however, A and Mommay contend the light is green.

Deicide Corner: "History does not record anywhere at any time a religion that has any rational basis. Religion is a crutch for people. We have our hands, we have our brains, we have the challenge all around us, and we have within (from whatever source) the will to strive. That is enough; there is no need to assert 'belief' in that which we do not, as yet, know.” -- Robert A. Heinlein

Why does the RMN keep publishing these letters? They all read the same way and offer no new information. Give it a rest on the whole Larry Manzanres subject. It has been debated to death on the opinion pages and blogs.
