New Mexico College and undocumented students
Monday, July 23 at 2:41 PM

Beth McCane of Aurora writes:

This is in response to the article in Monday’s paper (7/16/07) titled “N.M. college opens doors for undocumented”. Let me get this straight: The University of New Mexico is going to admit 10 undocumented students from Colorado and allow them to pay in-state tuition. For some, their tuition will be covered by institutional scholarships. My, how nice for them! In the mean time, my son had to apply for federal financial aid (which he has to pay back) in order to attend a state university in Colorado.
Granted he’ll pay in-state tuition, but he has to pay it back. We looked for scholarships too as he didn’t have the luxury of a counselor who knows the ins & outs abouts cholarships to assist us. Too bad he didn’t consider the UNM for his higher education. He could have been accepted and only pay $4,570.80 for the one year in-state tuition rate. He seems to fit the qualifications: he had an average GPA of 3.5, took AP classes, and was involved in extra curricular activities. So if he decides to attend the UNM for the 2008-2009 school year, will he be afforded the same privileges? I may need to ask the counselor at Poudre High School to help search for scholarships though. She seems to be much better at that than me.
If we all applied the logic that undocumented students should be allowed to attend college by paying in-state tuition rates, then ALL students should be allowed to attend a college or university anywhere in the U.S. and pay in-state tuition. We’d have no need for out-of-state tuition rates. I’m not saying that these young people don’t deserve to further their education. But they should not do so at the expense of those of us who are tax-paying, lawful residents of the U.S. If they want to attend college they should have to pay non-resident rates and apply for bank loans—not federal loans. Permanent residents and foreign students are eligible for bank loans but are required to apply with a credit-worthy cosigner. Cosigner must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident. Does the UNM allow students from other countries who come to the U.S. on student Visas to pay in-state tuition? After all, what is the difference between these foreign students and the undocumented students from Poudre High School?
Fair is fair, right?

This is just the tip of the iceberg B. McCane.

Any and every advantage ( at American taxpayers expense of course) will be givin these dishonorable sneaks that have flooded through our borders.

This is the goal of internationalists, corportions, and most politicians.

They are handing America over on a silver platter and American citizens be damned!!

It's like "pay up sucker" you owe every corrupt and poor country in the world your money and your life.

The illegals are bankrupting our medical and educational systems. The sad part of this is, many in BOTH political parties want them here. They intend to overwhelm us with their sheer numbers and are well on their way to doing so. Evidently, they feel even if the USA turns into a third world Hellhole, it was worth the effort to pull us down. Looks like we are going to allow them to get away with it, our govt. is deporting very few. I say DEPORT OUR PRESIDENT and many of our traitorus members of both Congress & Senate !

The hispano/latino racial politics is deeply imbedded at UNM and increasingly in the state government in NM. It is almost a socialist latin american state. It is latino/Mexican imperialism all subsidized by our own U.S. government.

Well, our problem is we're polite and we still believe that those who lead us know and will do what is right,so we don't go around burning the Mexican flag at immigration rallies.Until we are willing to get hostile and confrontational in large numbers and do offensive things, like burning the Mexican(and Iranian) flags, the nouveau-Marxists and their whitebread proxies in government will go right on having their way.

And keep on an eye on the Senators, they are trying to incorporate some of the Amensty package that we defeated into parts of other bills, like the Dream Act and more guest worker programs. I am still paying my student loans off, I guess I should of come up through Mexico and called myself an illegal alien and received my college education for free.

UNM, like most public and private sector colleges, are federal government contractors (student loans, research grants, etc.). Take a page from the Iraq-NAM disabled vets playbook, they are suing VA Secy. Nicholson, named defendant, for shirking his sworn duties. Parents of our college students should sue Gov. Richardson, and their federal policewomen, USDOL-Office of Federal Contracts Compliance Programs-OFCCP Secy. Chao and U.S. Dept. of Education Secy. Spelling, for failing to perfom their duties in federal fiscal oversight and stewardship. CFR-29/41, FAR, and USDOL-OFCCP, states, "no federal contractor can subcontract with a foreign national, without the written consent of the USDOL secretary". Take 2 aspirins and call me in the morning.

You know, EVERYONE that I have talked to about illegal immigration is furious and fed up, so why is this still going on? Like Jimminy said, do we have to resort with violent protests and flag burning to get something done about it? This is not something that rational human beings think about doing but will our polititans drive us to this? Something to think about.
