Police hiring
Even though Police Sgt. Thomas Williams was the top scoring person in a group of four. He failed his oral exam. Was it because he is blace and the group that interviewed him was all white. I think so. I work for a company that no matter how you score in a test. It all come down to a telephone interview. So, if the people that interview you do not like you. You don’t get the job. No matter if you are the best for the job. That is their little loop hole that they can us to hire the people they want. Not the people that are best for the job.

No kidding!
Leroy, you might want to proofread your next letter, before playing the race card to rationalize why you/your friends didn't get the job. Oh, but I forgot, it's just easier to "blame whitey"
so you are for trashing out affirmative action then ?
thought so !

The major issue is the racist system that the Aurora police Dept. has set in place. The APD are in the business of racial profiling, don't hire the best person for the given promotion and that there are no consequences for these racists who are running a huge poilce dept.
There needs to be a new system with new leaders implemented to erase the problems that the current dept has created for itself.
Why don't the people hold the APD accountable by insisting they attend a public meeting and explain exactly why Sgt. Thomas Williams was passed over. Listen to what they say, then judge whether their reasons pass the test of validity or not. All this public discourse accomplishes is to give people the opportunity to vent their no knowledge opinions as if they really knew that factual truth of the issue.
Don't you think before any one deals the race card into the game, the truth should be required. To do otherwise, is employing a closely related tactic to a lynch mob mentality; making up ones mind based on emotion rather than reasoned consideration of the facts. The only solution is a public airing of all the information, a critical thinking review of that information and a common sense approach to a fair resolution. This is the only way justice can be achieved and the only way it can be found if bias, bigotry or discrimination played a part in the APD's decision.
Posted by Allen Campbell on July 14, 2007 08:31 AMOften the top scoring and most experienced are white. This is often due to numbers. But they will not get the position because of being white. (discrimination) Minority preference overcomes all, just breath. For state positions, speaking Spanish is the equivolent of a Masters degree in points given. The best person for the position period. No preferences should be accomodated at all. This was America.
