Real 9-11 heroes
Tuesday, July 17 at 12:21 PM

Leroy Quet of Denver writes:

In a new video, New York firefighters and firefighters’ families show that they are upset with former NYC Mayor Rudy Giuliani over Guiliani’s response to the 9-11 tragedy.
Remember when FIREFIGHTERS — not Giuliani, not Bush — were considered the heroes of 9-11? It seems so long ago now.
Did Bush or Giuliani risk their own lives to save anybody on 9-11???
Of course not. But the firefighters did — and many died doing that. Let us not forget the REAL heroes of 9-11!

I cannot even believe the Rocky Mountain News published this idiotic letter.

Oh, that's right. Of course they published it. By making criticisms toward two Republicans it kills two birds with one stone.

I suppose Leroy thinks that Bush and Giuliani were supposed to rush from their jobs as managers to the World Trade Center. Giuliani was probably somewhere in the NY City area, but Bush was thousands of miles away. What could either of them really do? Not to mention that the firefighters DID get TONS of accolades for their bravery and heroism. Leroy must have been living in a cave with no cable TV at the time.

Yes, Bush was thousands of miles away, and fleeing as far from the Pentagon as he could get.

Once a coward, always a coward.

air nat you are the coward. what would you have the president do when the country is under attack, hold a sign up and say here I am? Where were all of the brave dems that day? crying and saying they needed special protection?

All Leroy was saying that the heroes of 9/11 get lost in all of the bickering- and of course, leave it to the neo-cons to defend Bush. Of course Bush shouldn't have held up a sign-he didn't ned to. He could've been found, with his deer-in-the-headlights look, at a school in Florida. Fact of the matter is that too many neo-cons give too much credit to Bush for very little.

Bo,

What do you think Bush should have done on 9/11?

If you had been president at the time and sitting in front of a group of grade school kid when you got the horrific news about an attack such as that what do you think your initial reaction would have been. Please don't give the typical leftist Bush-bashing answer, but an honest one.

What do you think a neo-con is? You should look it up in the dictionary before just using it as a buzz word.

Well, of course, Bush was sitting there in front of a class of little children - reading to them at his own best level What else? His Edgar Bergan had disappeared into a safe, and undisclosed, bunker at the first hint of the problem; and one certainnly can't expect a Charlie McCarthy - or Mortimer Snerd - to do anything but sit, empty eyed and empty headed, when the puppet master leaves the scene and runs for cover.

hey grouch we are talking of Bush and not the liberal dumocrats in DC

07:40 AM,

So, who do you think was named in the previous posting? Or did you have a hard time deciphering B-u-s-h?

Posted by Old Grouch on July 18, 2007 08:06 AM

All I know about 9/11 is that there was no Boeing 757 in the Pentagon, as we were told.

Posted by on July 18, 2007 09:07 AM

Bush should have flown to Andrews Air Force Base in D.C., and gone to the Pentagon the first opportunity after the threat was minimized. Do you think our Air Force would have let any non-military planes near DC in the days following the attack?

Instead he ran as far away as possible. How commanding for a "commander in chief"! Once a coward, always a coward.

"hold up a sign"...how moronic. no wonder your post is anonymous.

The DVD that Leroy refers to is called 'Rudy Giuliani: Urband Legend' . After viewing this film, I could understand why the many of the NYC firefighters are so upset with Rudy Giuliani.

Rudy replaced their obsolete radios, that did not work properly during the first World Trade Center bombing in 1993 with radios that still failed to work properly on 9/11 by outsourcing them on a no bid contract and then failed to test them before 9/11. Because of his failed policy, over 300 firefighters in the Twin Towers did not hear the order to evacuate the buildings ten minutes before the collapse and were killed, but, zero NYC police officers died in the towers because their radios did function properly. Then Rudy lied to the 9/11 commission by saying that all the dead firefighters ignored the evacuation orders, when it was his fault for not supplying them with radios that worked properly.

Rudy halted the search for human remains suddenly after a shipment of bank gold was recovered and many of the dead heroes remains then ended up in the garbage dump.

Mountain Cat says Rudy was proably somewhere in the NYC area. Good guess MC. He was indeed in his WTC 7 command post and had inside information that it was going to collapse and saved his hide and also said to ABC TV Peter Jennings that he was told that the WTC was going to collapse before it happened, but he did not share this information with the folks killed in the towers, who may have been able to escape. So Leroy is correct. The firefighers and not Giuliani or Bush are the 9/11 heroes.

If Guiliani wins the presidency, you'll know 9/11 was an inside job.

"f you had been president at the time and sitting in front of a group of grade school kid when you got the horrific news about an attack such as that what do you think your initial reaction would have been."

Any "leader" wouldn't have sat there with a glazed expression reading My Pet Goat for 10 minutes - and then run straight for a bunker in the heartland. A crisis happens and these Chickenhawks go AWOL.

This guy swaggers around like a macho cowboy, but when real danger appears he wets himself and runs for cover.

I'm pretty sure just watching it all on tv was enough to make drew need a clean pair of drawers.

And all appreciate you atttending to that post haste.

Posted by KW on July 18, 2007 12:47 PM

I already know 9/11 was an inside job.

Posted by on July 18, 2007 12:49 PM

A real leader would have smiled at the children and said "well kids I have to attend to the job of president now, so someone else will need to read the rest of the story".

How the hell hard is that to envision?

After that, well, hindsight is perfect, but what would any president have done?
