Stem-cell veto
Sunday, July 1 at 2:00 PM

Brian Stuckey of Denver writes:

For all Americans who cherish the sanctity of human life, President Bush’s veto of the embryonic stem-cell bill is refreshing news indeed. It is true that most Americans support research for the treatment of diseases, such as Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, and glaucoma, but that is hardly the case with the stem-cell bill. In spite of recent reports that other research, including adult stem cells, is equally if not more effective in the treatment of diseases, the Democrats persist in proposing a political agenda which is destructive to human life. In short, the real issue is not “scientific research,” as the Democrats would have it, but what is essentially the abortion lobby, call it what you will. And to make matters worse, Rep.
Diana DeGette, sponsor of the bill, is asking taxpayers to pay for it. That will not happen on President Bush’s watch.

I think sunlight or a silver bullet will be needed to end the rein of Stucky.

Since we have been admonished for simply criticizing Brian for writing and not for his ideas, here goes.

Abortions and stem cell research have nothing in common. Nothing Brian, nada, nu, nyet, nay...If I could put it in Martian I would.

All normal research should be carried on. If stem cells cause uncontrolled growth, as they now seem to, maybe that could be used to regrow limbs or organs. Who knows?

No one knows, Brian, because the money isn`t available for this if the government stays out.

If we can want to put a man on the moon, and boy that really helped us all, then we can want to do gov. funded stem cell research.

Eventually, someone in Europe will figure out what to use these cells for. Or someone in China. Or they may find a way to cure diseases without stem cells, but either way, the U.S. will be left behind, not because we are so moral, but because we are so controlled by the religious right.

But when the fundies kids get more and more diseases that might be helped by this research, then they will change their attitude over night.

One sick kid at a time.

You would print Brian's grocery list, and leave off my name? I see a conspiracy.

RMN, thank you.!

Brian Stuckey has about as much integrity as a rock. He knows, that is, if he has a working brain, that the main reason people support embryonic stem cell research is for the hope it may offer to put an end to some of the terrible diseases and tragedies that afflict so many people.

"The sanctity of human life". Does this man not care about the quality of human life? When I hear phrases like that and "all life is precious", I think about the babies born amidst starvation and disease in Africa, or about someone afflicted with Lou Gehrig's disease, and I want to vomit on those cheap and careless words.

Somewhere in the past, someone spoke of the RMN having a "90 Day Rule" about letters. I thought the reference strange then. Now, I just wonder if it weren't a matter of a typo, or missed word edit.

Was it supposed to mean 90 days between letters, or 90 letters a day for Stuckey? Looks as if the latter comes closer to the policy than anything else.

Sorry, that one was mine. Seems as if all the posting data disappears each time I go back to the listing of the letters. Maybe has something to do with that new software that clears up cookies and stuff that was installed for me. I'll try to catch up on making sure the name gets in in the future.

When did socialism make room for such hate and intolerence from it's fan club? I thought your group was about love and truly caring for one another.

Thanks you Brian Stuckey. You are a courageous fellow inviting all the brick-bats your bias and prejudice (common sense) engenders. In June you sent in your 2 cents worth without having to pay 41 cents to mail fifteen times. How you can get by the censors with their 90 day rule between published letters smacks of divine intervention. Jesus must be watching over you. It appears you write fifty letters for every one that is published. God bless you for providing fodder for comment.

How can you feel so cocky unless you have a hole in your pocket knowing that your bias and prejudice takes the opposite ground from that of the bulk of the U.S. Senate, The House, and the American People. You are in the “Shrub” minority, that violates our Constitution, “a goddamn piece of paper,” and gives $billions of tax dollars to Christianity whose thrust in life is to eat the flesh and blood of a Jew, “fruit of the womb” coming from the “loins of David,” who takes issue with a fig tree and kills it along with curing epilepsy by slaughtering 2000 pigs, and for his finale plans holy genocide in which billions of humans will die and be thrust into a lake of fire. End before it is too late to make my long story short. Hang in there Stuckey.
