The important stuff
Saturday, July 7 at 12:01 AM

Considering that the last six years of supposedly conservative rule has resulted in wars we can’t afford, health care that we can’t afford, fossil fuels we not only can’t afford but that are killing us all slowly as pollution increases with no end in sight, and a president, vice president and an attorney general who apparently are above the law, we have an important question we need to ask ourselves:
Is that sweet little Paris Hilton going to be OK with all the trauma she’s been through?
Blast that liberal media, anyway, for not reporting on the really important stuff.

The last six years rule ha been anything but conservative - it is neo-feudal. Big difference.

You are wrong Liam. For the last six years the conservatives have run amok getting everything their little hearts desired.

Unfortunately you should never let government be run by people who don't believe in the existence of government.

Liam, we tried to run this country the conservative way and it has been a disaster.

Conservatives can try to huff and puff that "well, George Bush was never really a conservative" all they want. The truth that conservative values produce disastrous policies has been shown for all to see.

6:46 Anon.
Bush and his minions, (or should we say Cheney and his minions) deserve to be bashed.
They "Brought it on" themselves, and if the fools who still support them get their panties in a twist, that's tough.. deal with the decisions you've made
That's called personal responsibility.

Sometimes, the best way to defeat a political enemy is to let them have their way.

The country may suffer in the short run, and then kick the bums out.

I think the war can be attributed to Bush, but the rest of the writers' complaints have been going on for years.
Don't forget all the radical islam bombings all over the world before Bush took office.
Clinton wasn't much better of a President.
Bush is not responsible for everything that happens.
I think our entire political system is in trouble from D.C. down to the city governments.

The question of the day is how do we ordinary citizens start changing the status quo?

Posted by Can I get an AMEN! on July 7, 2007 10:34 AM

First the gods make them great and then he smites them or something like that: Anyway, this is what happened to Bush. This morning listening to a Christian talk show on radio, the mentally ill says: The cure for America can only be made by evangelists or something like that. If you recall, evangelists elected Bush whereas their Jew, fruit of the womb from a 13-year-old girl sired from "the loins of David" spoke to Bush:

Invade Iraq, veto stem cell research, blow up the wall that separates church and state, institute torture chambers, give $billions to Christianity, or something like that.

I'd like to give an Amen; however, America's worst happening was the Civil War; having survived that epoch in America's history, we will survive the present fiasco.

Hey! Tommy! You forgot the part about Cheney kidnapping and torturing Santa Claus.

These Bushbashbots are getting ridiculous. Get back on your meds.

Posted by clyde on July 7, 2007 11:54 AM

Clyde,
Don't be silly, Cheney never kidnapped and tortured dear 'ol Santa......he just said it was OK to do so.
Tommy, you must be doing something right if the cons take the time to respond to your letter. And with such vitriol! It seems it's the cons who need to take their meds.
Right on Tommy!!

Colorado Dave:

No, the conservatives haven't been running the government. Government since Bush the 1st sas been until the domineering rule of (pick a name) greed, big business, globalism, etc.

Bush the 2nd is only a conservative in name...he claimed it and talked the talk; but, he can't walk the walk. He's a big business globalist pushing that agenda above all else.

If you want to study the congressional record of a true conservative, check out Ron Paul. I'm not saying you should convert and vote for him. I'm just saying that he is a true conservative who is constantly at odds with the Republican party as well as the Democratic party due to his strict adherence to the constitution.

Ron Paul: The Congressman from Texas is quite simply, ‘the best they’ve got’. The physician is the only candidate who has a 100% constitutionally-correct voting record. Because he votes against unconstitutional bills every time, he earned the label “Doctor No.”

He alone in the entire GOP lineup is the only one who voted against the war in Iraq. On every single issue he is a pure, unadulterated, founders-woulda-loved him conservative.

Paul never voted to raise taxes. Not once.
Paul never voted for an unbalanced budget.
Paul never voted for any infringement on gun rights.
Paul never voted to raise his pay.
Paul voted against the blatantly-unconstitutional power grab that is the Patriot Act.
Paul does not participate in the congressional pension program and he returns a portion of his annual congressional office budget to the U.S. treasury every year – a rare Congressman who practices what he preaches!

Before you claim that conservatives have had an opportunity to run the government, be sure to understand what a true conservative is.

What can be done differently in the future? We could start by judging our candidates based on our own research and not relying on the spin-masters and media to tell us what to think.

Consider:

They convinced voters in 2000 that a one term governor, failed businessman and man with substance abuse issues (DUI and reported cocaine use) was the best man for the job.

In 2004, they convinced voters that Bush had behaved more honorably in Vietnam by hiding out in the National Guard safe from harm, than a decorated veteran of the same war who dared criticize it upon his return.

This isn't intended to be more Bush-bashing, rather I'm only pointing out that a far more qualified Republican did not receive the nomination.

I am proud to be an independent and can honestly say that I will always try to support the person I think is best for the job. I have voted for candidates of different parties and will do so in the future.

"Sometimes, the best way to defeat a political enemy is to let them have their way."

Absolutely!
It is also worth just listing all the things that they would want and then picturing life with all those as the law of the land.

In short order we would have a corporate form of theocracy, and it would become even more PC to ignore the impact that cults have on policy.

A true conservative is not much different from a true liberal. They just disagree on the speed.

George W. Bush is not a true conservative. He is more like a corporate socialist.

Big money buys big influence. And they know what's best. Trust 'em.

All men having power ought to be mistrusted.- James Madison
