Time to recall the outrageous Tancredo
Miami is a “Third World country”? Denver and Boulder are “sanctuary cities”? These are some of the more outrageous statements by 6th District U.S. Rep. Tom Tancredo.
On June 15, the House of Representatives passed the Department of Homeland Security appropriations bill, including an amendment from Tancredo that would withhold federal emergency-services funding from “sanctuary cities,” which apparently include Denver and Boulder.
Does he honestly think that pulling government funding out of our hometowns will receive a round of applause from us? The amendment, however, did not define the term “sanctuary city,” leaving it open to Tancredo’s interpretation.
Sometime last year, Tancredo unveiled a series of billboards in Denver, calling it a sanctuary city. However, the federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials have stated that it is not. So when Tancredo says the House is “closer to the people ... than the Senate,” he appears quite disillusioned that his constituency ever wanted him to go this far on his one-issue politics.
It is time to recall him.

Have you been to Miami recently? I can assure you that English is only a secondary language down there, as it has become in many parts of the Denver Area.
Mr Crooks, are you advocating that we as American Citizens, run up the white flag and let our nation be overrun by foreign masses, who have no interest in assimulating into our culture but rather have us adapt to theirs and learn their language as well. Mayby you do believe this way, but for your information there are a lot of us who do not.
Kevin, Tom Tancredo is the only representative from Colorado that's not lying about his position on illegal immigration. When Ken Salazar says he wants to secure the borders, he really means he wants to make it safer for the illegals to cross.
Perhaps it's time to recall Ken Salazar.
Tom Tancredo is doing what we elected him to do....represent his constituency. In case you haven't noticed Tom Tancredo was re-elected while campaigning on this very same issue.....obviously you are out of touch with his constituency.

Denver is a sanctuary city. If you do not believe this you are oblivious to what is happening. Mayor Hickenlooper favore the latin vote over legAl voters. Ask any police officer and he will tell you of Denvers hands off policy when it comes to latinos. They are not allowed to question, arrest, or investigate latino crimes without permission from higher ups.
Boulder, well Boulder lives in another reality. A city that has banned speech because it may be offensive to reffer to an illegal as illegal and must be called a displaced migrant worker (HA!) , assine!

Tancredo has committed "high crimes and misdemeanors". He wouldn't help me, however, he did illegalLy aid Duane "Dog" Chapman (Honolulu, HI resident, convicted felon, and draft dodger), when he was ordered deported to Mexico on kidnapping charges. Tancredo also hired criminal illegal Mexicans to perform construction work on his primary residence, which illegally displaced qualified American workers, and compromised our natiuonal security, because these "illegals" had unfettered access to his congressional personal computer.
Tancredo has no respect for black vets or President Jimmy "irrelevant" Carter. Carter pardoned (amnesty) draft dodgers (felons) like Tancredo, and his GOP posse. I was in grad school in California when the initial studies were formulated with the intent to show benefit. They did not come out as intended and there some upset Californians that had been misled. Glad they corrected the study but it still does not prove what was intended: illegal immigration benefits this country. Our U.S. senate (which was in favor of amnesty) stated with the GAO that each illegal immigrate would cost (that above benefit) this country $400,000 during their lifetime. That is cost only in dollars. There are social costs as well.

On December 2, 2005, concerned sovereign Coloradans surprised Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper at a burrito breakfast fundraiser at El Centro - Denver's Illegal Alien Hiring Hall. Citizens questioned him on Denver's sanctuary city policy and demanded the Denver Police Manual be changed to require full cooperation with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
On May 8, 2005, Denver Police officer Don Young was assassinated in cold blood by an illegal alien employed at Denver Mayor Hickenlooper's restaurant. The horror is that Denver has an illegal alien sanctuary policy (Executive Order 116), implemented by former Mayor Webb in 1998, which:
* Declares Denver's strong opposition to federal distinctions between legal immigrants and commits city officials "to the delivery of services to all of its residents."
* Asserts that federal policy "unfairly impacts many of Denver's children, senior citizens and disabled residents."
* Vows that the city will back legal rights of all residents in Denver, adding that Webb will urge businesses, schools, hospitals and universities to do the same.
Recently, City Attorney Finegan issued an opinion that Denver does not have a sanctuary policy and that Congressman Tancredo is wrong in saying that it does. Yet this opinion flies in the face of a 1999 City Attorney opinion on 116 that states the following:
* Executive Order No. 116 is a limited cooperation ordinance. A limited cooperation ordinance recognizes that illegal or undocumented aliens are present in the United States in great numbers. Such limited cooperation ordinances recognize the immigration problem and offer a solution by making adjustments for the benefit of public safety.
* Executive Order No. 116 discourages reporting of undocumented aliens who seek essential services.
* ... illegal entry is a criminal offense which can be enforced by both state and federal officials, whereas illegal presence is a civil offense enforceable only by the INS.
* Since the courts have strictly limited the enforcement of immigration laws by state and local law enforcement to the criminal provisions, it is clear that state and local law enforcement are under no affirmative duty to gather information on an individual's immigration status or to report a violation. Therefore, limited cooperation ordinances, like Executive Order No. 116, merely codify what the courts have already decided and that is, state and local officials have no jurisdiction to enforce civil provisions of federal immigration laws.
* Moreover, both the present [police] departmental policy 104.5 and the interim policy, § 103.52(3) go further and restrict officers from enforcing even the criminal portions of the INA, without prior approval from a supervisor or commander.
Another order, Executive Order 119, authorized Denver to accept bogus Mexican Matricula Consular IDs, until prohibited by state law. Denver's police department operations manual states, "Generally, officers will not detain, arrest, or take enforcement action against a person solely because he/she is suspected of being an undocumented immigrant." It is not just Executive Orders 116 and 119, but rather these orders in conjunction with Denver's Police operations manual and city and police practices that embody Denver's sanctuary policy.
Denver's sanctuary policy is nothing more than a de facto amnesty for illegal aliens, including known felons. Denver's police officers are handcuffed by Denver's sanctuary policy. They are effectively prevented from notifying immigration authorities about the presence in Denver of illegal aliens. This amnesty for foreign criminals places the safety and welfare of citizens at risk, and IT MUST STOP NOW!!

I'm not worried about some people coming here to pick our lettuce or take my burger order at Wendy's.
I am worried about the better paying tech and customer service industry jobs that are being shipped overseas to India and other Asian countries.
Why isn't Tancredo doing anything about outsourcing? This is impacting many families in our state as we've lost many jobs to other countries.
Tancredo has tunnel vision when it comes to these issues. He's so myopic about immigration that he's not paying attention to the fact that the jobs Americans want are being slipped out the back door!
And because he is so rabid about immigration and blind to the outsourcing issue I can't help but wonder if he isn't being complicit in the whole thing. He's distracting everyone with "those darn illegals" while his big corporation buddies ship the jobs we really want to other countries.
Until he addresses outsourcing as well, Tancredo has no credibility.

When everyone started opening their eyes and seeing how much illegals were costing this country and what they were doing to this country the outrage was loud and clear.
Tancredo was the only elected representative that had the balls to stand up and say something about illegals and how they were ruining this country.
He was alone out on that edge for many years until people finally woke up and realized what was happening to our country.
If was lonely on that ledge by himself ,but he never wavered and now 5 years later people finally understand what he was talking about.

It would from me...the federal control of local governments is solely worked through federal funding of projects in cities, counties and states. I wouldn't mind if we had more local control here in Denver, without the threat of federal grant losses...

He's been in congress since 1998. That's NINE years, Amen. Why did it take him 4 or 5 years, by your own calculation, to realize that we have an illegal immigration problem in America?

It was reported yesterday that TSA officials are still failing their duties. They're making people throw away bottles of water while not noticing fake bomb parts that were planted in suitcases by authorities just to see if the TSA people were doing their jobs.
Michael Chertoff is saying that he fully expects a terrorist attack on American
soil sometime this summer because he feels that al Queda is back at pre-9/11 capabilities..and on Bush's watch no less... because they have found refuse and suport on the Afghan-Pakistan border area.
So, our jobs are being shipped overseas and despite Bush supposedly fighting terrorism for the last 6+ years, we're not any safer.
And Tancredo has been there all along...voting with the president on every issue except for immigration...which they seem to respectfully disagree on.

I submit to you that Tancredo is addressing the problem, in part, of the outsourcing of American jobs. The tacit acceptance of importing of illegal aliens as a cheap (almost slave) source of labor and the outsourcing of traditional American jobs, whether they be call centers, computer programmers, IT professionals, or medical (more and more diagnostic/interpretative work with X-rays, MRIs, etc., are being done via computer overseas) all fall under the embraced concept of globalization. As wages are kept depressed in the US through cheap illegal workers at the lower socio-economic level, the “need” to pay higher wages further up the socio-economic ladder diminishes.
Microsoft watches, for example, a company like Swift positively impact their bottom line by utilizing cheap illegal labor, and starts looking for ways to impact their bottom line through foreign labor. In other words, by artificially holding down the wages at the lower rungs of the wage ladder, all levels are in turn depressed. As this shift in productive assets (workers and intellect) progresses, the downward pressure on US wages will thus continue and intensify. This continued downward pressure will result in the need for more “slave” labor domestically, and more decent paying positions moved overseas where skilled cheap subsidized labor sits (but, is impractical to move in mass to our shores).
Do you honestly believe that most of the politicians backing the Shamesty bill actually are concerned about the “rights and dignity” of the illegal aliens? They had twenty years since the last amnesty to address those issues. Instead, they winked and nodded as illegal workers flooded our economy providing cheap labor.
The current mantra out of Washington is that globalization is good for everyone. We will all benefit and become richer because of it. But contrary to that dogma, the losses in trade, jobs and a wage base set by a true free market (instead of by artificial means) are not confined to the “localized pain” felt by displaced workers who lose jobs and wages. As we are experiencing at an escalating rate is that the accumulating loss of our productive base is injuring the broader national interests – that is, everyone’s socio-economic well-being.
Tancredo is only in the presidential race to keep these issues at the forefront of debate. He’s one of the few politicians actually addressing any part of the problems with the current form of globalization.
Can we stop globalization – should we if we could? No. However, we can mitigate it’s effects on the social and economic fabric of our country. Stopping the exploitation of illegal workers at the expense of legal workers is one part of securing the higher paid sections of our society.

One of Tancredo's original positions when he first ran for Congress was the growing problem of illegal immigration. He has worked on it since first elected, although not on such a large scale. He and former Gov. Lamm (though not in concert) were two of the more instrumental players in moving the problem to the prominence is currently has.
As the problem has gained more public acknowledgment his original and continuing advocacy against illegal immigration has made him into a sort of poster boy of the subject.
And, to answer an unasked question or two: no I'm not affiliated with any Tancredo organization, I'm not in his House district; and, I'm not a registered Republican.

We need COMPREHENSIVE REFORM people. Not close the borders, not punish employers, not grant amnesty, but comprehensive reform that will actually be implemented, financed, and adhered to. Anything less is rhetoric.

I have always stated that if the borders were totally secured and that illegal aliens would go home and come here through proper channels, that I would welcome them with open arms irregardless of race, creed, color, religion, whatever, I would welcome them. Hey, he's got a locked in District - with fellow Republicans trying to overturn the re-districting done by the State Supreme Court - when the Republican gerrymandering was not acceptable and make the District a life long sinecure. He does nothing in Congress for either his District or for Colorado, and rarely even bothers to show up to vote on legislation.
But then again, why should he? He's running for President, isn't he. And he's "the ONLY ONE . . . "

The law books have executive order 116 ( Denvers Sanctuary Policy) in the Law books for anyone to look up, but that still would not be enough for you, you would rather believe someones oppinon about Peter Boyels then what the facts actually say in the Law books..

We know Dick Lamm as the former Governor of Colorado. In that context his thoughts are particularly poignant. Recently there was an immigration overpopulation conference in Washington, DC, filled to capacity by many of American's finest minds and leaders. A brilliant college professor by the name of Victor Davis Hansen talked about his latest book, Mexifornia, explaining how immigration - both legal and illegal was destroying the entire state of California. He said it would march across the country until it destroyed all vestiges of The American Dream.
Moments later, former Colorado Governor Richard D. Lamm stood up and gave a stunning speech on how to destroy America. The audience sat spellbound as he described eight methods for the destruction of the United States. He said, "If you believe that America is too smug, too self-satisfied, too rich, then let's destroy America. It is not that hard to do. No nation in history has survived the ravages of time. Arnold Toynbee observed that all great civilizations rise and fall and that 'An autopsy of history would show that all great nations commit suicide.'"
"Here is how they do it," Lamm said:
"First, to destroy America, turn America into a bilingual or multi-lingual and bicultural country." History shows that no nation can survive the tension, conflict, and antagonism of two or more competing languages and cultures. It is a blessing for an individual to be bilingual; however, it is a curse for a society to be bilingual. The historical scholar, Seymour Lipset, put it this way: 'The histories of bilingual and bi-cultural societies that do not assimilate are histories of turmoil, tension, and tragedy.' Canada, Belgium, Malaysia, and Lebanon all face crises of national existence in which minorities press for autonomy, if not independence. Pakistan and Cyprus have divided. Nigeria suppressed an ethnic rebellion. France faces difficulties with Basques, Bretons, and Corsicans."
Lamm went on: Second, to destroy America, "Invent 'multiculturalism' and encourage immigrants to maintain their culture. I would make it an article of belief that all cultures are equal. That there are no cultural differences. I would make it an article of faith that the Black and Hispanic dropout rates are due solely to prejudice and discrimination by the majority. Every other explanation is out of bounds.
Third, "We could make the United States an 'Hispanic Quebec' without much effort. The key is to celebrate diversity rather than unity. As Benjamin Schwarz said in the Atlantic Monthly recently: 'The apparent success of our own multiethnic and multicultural experiment might have been achieved not by tolerance but by hegemony. Without the dominance that once dictated ethnocentricity and what it meant to be an American, we are left with only tolerance and pluralism to hold us together.' Lamm said, "I would encourage all immigrants to keep their own language and culture. I would replace the melting pot metaphor with the salad bowl metaphor. It is important to ensure that we have various cultural subgroups living in America enforcing their differences rather than as Americans, emphasizing their similarities."
"Fourth, I would make our fastest growing demographic group the least educated. I would add a second underclass, unassimilated, undereducated, and antagonistic to our population. I would have this second underclass have a 50% dropout rate from high. school."
"My fifth point for destroying America would be to get big foundations and business to give these efforts lots of money. I would invest in ethnic identity, and I would establish the cult of 'Victimology.' I would get all minorities to think that their lack of success was the fault of the majority. I would start a grievance industry blaming all minority failure on the majority population."
"My sixth plan for America's downfall would include dual citizenship, and promote divided loyalties. I would celebrate diversity over unity. I would stress differences rather than similarities. Diverse people worldwide are mostly engaged in hating each other - that is, when they are not killing each other. A diverse, peaceful, or stable society is against most historical precedent. People undervalue the unity it takes to keep a nation together. Look at the ancient Greeks. The Greeks believed that they belonged to the same race; they possessed a common language and literature; and they worshipped the same gods. All Greece took part in the Olympic games. A common enemy, Persia, threatened their liberty. Yet all these bonds were not strong enough to overcome two factors: local patriotism and geographical conditions that nurtured political divisions. Greece fell. E. Pluribus Unum -- From many, one. In that historical reality, if we put the emphasis on the 'pluribus'. Instead of the 'Unum,' we will balkanize America as surely as Kosovo."
"Next to last, I would place all subjects off limits; make it taboo to talk about anything against the cult of 'diversity.' I would find a word similar to 'heretic' in the 16th century - that stopped discussion and paralyzed thinking. Words like 'racist' or 'xenophobe' halt discussion and debate. Having made America a bilingual/bicultural country, having established multi-culturism, having the large foundations fund the doctrine of 'Victimology,' I would next make it impossible to enforce our immigration laws. I would develop a mantra: That because immigration has been good for America, it must always be good. I would make every individual immigrant symmetric and ignore the cumulative impact of millions of them."
In the last minute of his speech, Governor Lamm wiped his brow. Profound silence followed. Finally he said, "Lastly, I would censor Victor Davis Hanson's book, Mexifornia. His book is dangerous. It exposes the plan to destroy America. If you feel America deserves to be destroyed, don't read that book."
There was no applause. A chilling fear quietly rose like an ominous cloud above every attendee at the conference. Every American in that room knew that everything Lamm enumerated was proceeding methodically, quietly, darkly, yet pervasively across the United States today. Discussion is being suppressed. Over 100 languages are ripping the foundation of our educational system and national cohesiveness. Even barbaric cultures that practice female genital mutilation are growing as we celebrate 'diversity.' American jobs are vanishing into the Third World as corporations create a Third World in America - take note of California and other states - to date, ten million illegal aliens and growing fast. It is reminiscent of George Orwell's book, 1984. In that story, three slogans are engraved in the Ministry of Truth building: "War is peace," "Freedom is slavery," and "Ignorance is strength."
Governor Lamm walked back to his seat. It dawned on everyone at the conference that the future of our great nation is deeply in trouble and worsening fast. If we don't get this immigration monster stopped quickly, it will rage like a California wildfire and destroy everything in its path, especially The American Dream.

I see where sanctuary cities will be denied money in the future IF Tancredo's amendment survives through the Senate negotiations (which is doubtful); but, I don't see how the recent cuts in DHS grants where due in part to Denver being a sanctuary city as you allude to.
It seems to me that the DHS cuts were due to sloppy application of rules of expenditure and even sloppier accountability of the expenditures. Put those with a poor structure overseeing Colorado's DHS and you have the reasons for the current cuts.

I'm probably more anti illegal immigrant/worker than you are. I do research, analysis, articles for national organizations and compose speeches for activists and politicians on the topic. My area of specialty is the socio-economic impact of the massive influx of cheap, and often times, off the books labor force. I am in total agreement with you that Ritter and the RMN are pro-illegal, pro-amnesty. I also believe that Hickenlooper falls into that category if, in fact, he isn't a leader of such.
However, as much as I would like to pin part of the DHS grant decrease on the belief that Denver is a sanctuary city, the facts don't support that position at the present time. Such belief is only speculative in lieu of any identifiable facts which can substantiate the position.
If we stick to verifiable facts in the argument against unfettered illegal immigration we can present a much stronger case. Anything of a speculative nature should be omitted as fact when advocating a position. AFTER presentation and summarization of fact speculative tie ins can be legitimately presented as items to be studied for further consideration.
For now my friend, the only sustainable facts for the decrease in DHS grants consists of the sloppy administration overseeing the Colorado operation, coupled with the inadequate accountability of funds already spent and questionable utilization of some of the funds.

They may not say they agree, but deep in their hearts, they do, and they will vote that way. Now, if we could only get back to paper ballots instead of electronic voting with absolutely no paper trail to verify the vote after the fact. See Ohio in 2004. And if you cant read well enough to vote (see Florida 2000), then maybe you should go back to the rest home and not vote.

If you want to look at a true "sanctuary law", look at what is going on in LA. Even though Special Order 40 was implemented in 1979, it remains de facto law today. Following is an excerpt from an article which reviewed the sanctuary status of LA>
"The LAPD’s efforts fighting crime by illegal aliens have been arrested by Special Order 40, which forbids officers from asking people about their immigration status until after they’ve been charged with a felony, and a sanctuary policy, in violation of federal law, which forbids municipal employees from cooperating with federal authorities regarding illegal aliens. Repealing S.O. 40 would permit the police to round up known illegal alien gang members, before they commit (even more) violent crimes. The politically ambitious Chief Bratton’s response to those Los Angelenos who want S.O. 40 repealed is, “If you don't like it, leave the state." (Bratton, a Massachusetts native, only came to California to run the LAPD.)
As S.O. 40 was enacted by the LAPD in 1979, Bratton is merely the latest of a series of chiefs who have acted as gang-enablers, but things are many orders of magnitude worse than they were in 1979. "
Denver's EO 116 was pretty much nullified with the state's legislation re illegal immigrants last year. While Denver could seek an exemption of state law based on home rule (i.e., their position on pit bulls), I doubt anybody there is willing to commit political suicide. I honestly don't know how the DPD handles this topic internally; but, I'm sure that it's not nearly as divisive as SO 40 is to the LAPD:
"[Sanctuary] laws testify to the sheer political power of immigrant lobbies, a power so irresistible that police officials shrink from even mentioning the illegal-alien crime wave. “We can’t even talk about it,” says a frustrated LAPD captain. “People are afraid of a backlash from Hispanics.” Another LAPD commander in a predominantly Hispanic, gang-infested district sighs: “I would get a firestorm of criticism if I talked about [enforcing the immigration law against illegals].” Neither captain would speak for attribution. I would recommend that you and darfor and anyone else of course watch this 14 minute clip on why I think we need to secure the border. It is not racist in anyway and he does a wonderfull job explaining why we need to stop the invasion.

I really think the answer will be exactly what darfor has been saying and that is , is that it really is not defined in Tancredos bill what a Sanctuary City is as there are no so called "guide laws" to tell us what 2qualifies as such.
Unless the Mayor comes out in the public and declares his City a Sanctuary City, I don`t know how this will pan out.
I know I`m back tracking on previous posts but I think everyone is a little confused to what qualifies as "Sanctuary City".

We are totally under going an invasion from the south right now and our homeland security errr Twig and Jerkoff won`t do anything about it because we are being punished for shooting down their shamnesty bill that they wanted to shove down our throats not once but twice. Hell they even wanted to do a hurry up vote before the public could voice our opinions and boy did we voice our opinions. Way to go everyone. The real sad thing is that I don`t see anyone running besides TT that want the Border closed either. I just don`t understand this.
In bushs` last speech he said his job is to protect American citizens and Gen.Patrais said he has a gut feeling about an attack here in the states and they still won`t do anything about the Border. You would have thought that after 9/11 it would have been sealed on 9/12 . 6 years later and nothing has still been done. Even if we had another attack on America and could prove they croosed the Mexican border, Bush would do nothing at all. Ohhh but we are building a wall in Iraq to seperate the Shiites and Sunnis.
I cannot explain in words how much I despise Bush and I`m only one of many, many Republicans with the same sentiments.
Bush can find 12 Billion a MONTH to support his Iraq war but can`t find 4 Billion to Build a secured fence.

I don't care where they're from our what political loyalties they have. This whole concept that every square centimeter of land belongs to some government and that every human being belongs to some government is madness.

I came to this country legally 13 years ago and I know how discriminatory people can be even toward LEGAL immigrants in this country. It is amazing how quickly they all forget that they all came from somewhere else as well. Xenophobia has permeated into politics.
If they want to build a fence and go back to the isolationist policies of long ago, it will only ruin America.
I cannot understand how a country built on the labor of immigrants wants to kick out the people who do the jobs no CITIZEN would ever do!
As for America being "Invaded"? The only thing that has been invaded is the paranoid minds of those supporting Tom Tancredo. It wasn't Mexicans that invaded, it was Congression District 6's self-inflicted fear.
