Barack Obama
That Barack Obama is not Black enough to relate to and represent American Africans is yet another distracting and transparent argument that no one needs.
I’m not certain where in the world this is coming from but hope it dissipates under closer societal scrutiny. It is simply not necessary for him or any other Black candidate for office to have had the exact same Black experience if that’s really ever even possible. He’s still as Black/Brown as I am. If he weren’t running for the Democratic nomination then believe me 300 million people in this country and in the world would continue to not mistake him for a White Anglo Saxon Protestant anytime soon if you know what I mean.
Yes his has been an extraordinary and remarkable biracial and bicultural journey but having lived and been educated outside of the country (this additional perspective) should only add to his resume and political attractiveness not detract.
A more for real and serious question would be how and if he would be willing to combine forces with Hillary Clinton instead of following this other nonsense.
Gracias por este.

Grant, Por que usted a negros como americanos africanos? Translation= Grant, why do you refer to blacks as african americans? White folks do not ask for or expect a special title like say, European American.

Are you really saying you have never heard the terms:
Italian-American
German-American
Irish-American
Polish-American, etc.
If you are saying you have never heard those terms, then I am saying you are a racists liar.
Posted by Edmond on August 28, 2007 02:56 PMHmmmm, I don't care if he calls himself african-american, black, or Susan. I would never vote for him or the Hildabeast just because I don't vote for socialists.
Posted by Dravur on August 28, 2007 03:00 PMEdmond, you accuser of blatant racism. Sam is representative of a single individual, so he shouldn't be referred to as a plural, or multiple racist. Just because he prefers not to talk like a Perverted Clown doesn't make him any less noble than your pompous ass.
Posted by on August 28, 2007 03:01 PMGrant D. Cyrus says he does'nt know where the Osama lack of blackness argument is coming from. Does the Hillary Clinton for President election "Take no Prisoners" campain machine send up any red flags?
Nobody will ever mistake him for that buffoon, Jesse Jackson or Al Sharpton. But I have a sneaking suspicion that he is both of them in a package being marketed as more acceptable to white America. But he can only fool the gullible swing voters and usual socialists and moochers on the left.
If Osama Barack was a Republican and had the same education and carried himself in the same life experiences and assimilated in the same manner he would be
called an Uncle Tom.
Hopefully he will never combine forces with Hillary Clinton which I think he detests her transparent and fake interest in black America which revolves on getting their vote and keeping them down and dependent on white elitist liberals like herself.
Besides he would have to settle for the Vice Presidency and kept in his place. Right where she would want her "Boy" to be.
I watched one of the candidates make a stump speech the other day on C-Span and it sounded too familiar. Smaller government, lower taxes, less spending, balanced budget ... blah, blah, blah. I don't care what color or sex a person is, as long as they can make a significant change in the direction of this country, starting with the 9 trillion dollar national debt we've been bequeathed.
Posted by Stan Broyles on August 28, 2007 03:19 PMAt least Bush has a better southern draw than Hillary.
I haven't heard Obama's draw yet so I don't know if I could ever vote for him.
Probably not.
Posted by KW on August 28, 2007 03:48 PM"Osama Barack was a Republican and had the same education and carried himself in the same life experiences and assimilated in the same manner"
....the GOP and all it's little dittoheads would be falling down and peeing their pants to get him elected.
Obama is the candidate the GOP fears which is why they're hoping to hell that the dems put up HIllary instead.
The GOP has already dug it's own grave when it comes to racial respect issues because of people like Trent Lott and others doing what republicans do best...shoot first and think later.
The GOP would not know how to attack an intelligent black man who had the courage and integrity to admit he made mistakes in his early adulthood but turned his life around and made something of himself, completely on his own.
Obama's wife, Michelle, is smarter and more clever than the entire GOP delegation put together. They wouldn't know what to do with a strong, black woman either.
But, dems are usually dumb as a box of rocks....will probably put up Hillary and it will be a huge battle with whoever the GOP puts up and the dumbocrats will, stupidly, be shocked if and when she doesn't win.
Obama is the ticket that can win.
P.S. - anyone catch him on The Daily Show responding to Jon Stewarts question about how the media is casting him as "inexperienced but someone who can bring change".
He said, "Well, as I always remind everyone, no one has longer resumes than Dick Cheney or Donald Rumself and look where they got us."
Brilliant.
Posted by Thomas on August 28, 2007 07:37 PMThomas -- I'm afraid it's already been settled by Castro. He determined who the next president and vp are to be.
" Ailing Cuban leader Fidel Castro is tipping Democratic candidates Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama to team up and win the U.S. presidential election.
Clinton leads Obama in the race to be the Democratic nominee for the November 2008 election, and Castro said they would make a winning combination.
"The word today is that an apparently unbeatable ticket could be Hillary for president and Obama as her running mate," he wrote in an editorial column on U.S. presidents published on Tuesday by Cuba's Communist Party newspaper, Granma.
At 81, Castro has outlasted nine U.S. presidents since his 1959 revolution turned Cuba into a thorn in Washington's side by building a communist society about 90 miles offshore from the United States.
He said all U.S. presidential candidates seeking the "coveted" electoral college votes of Florida have had to demand a democratic government in Cuba to win the backing of the powerful Cuban exile community.
Clinton and Obama, both senators, called for democratic change in Cuba last week.
Castro has not appeared in public since intestinal illness forced him to hand over power to his brother Raul Castro in July last year.
He has turned to writing dozens of columns and essays, but rumors that his health is worsening or that he may even be dead have swirled through the Cuban exile community in Miami in the last two weeks.
Castro's only reference to U.S. President George W. Bush in his latest essay was to say that he "needed fraud" to win Florida's electoral college votes and the presidency in the fiercely contested election in 2000. "

Very mature calling him Osama Barrack, it really gives away which pundit you listen to. It would be very refreshing if those who post could refrain from calling those they disagree with names.

Well put Thomas. This is very plausible. Obama will be tougher to beat than Hillary but it's not just the Reps who will run a close race.
The time may be finally ripe enough for and Ind to make a realistic run at the white house. We'll have to wait until after the primaries to see who emerges. I sincerely hope someone electable does because thus far I haven't found a candidate on either side worthy of my vote.
This will depend on how fed up most voters are come 11/08 but the prospect of an angery voter base electing new blood is looking better each day. Thanks to Bush & Co AND the current reigning group in congress.
But as you stated, I agree. Hillary, if nominated, will most likely not make it into the white house.
Posted by KW on August 29, 2007 08:48 AMNo, Edmonds, I am not saying that I have never heard the terms you refer to and I find it odd that you jump to conclusions so that you can label me as a racist liar.
I was simply comenting on Grant's comment, in which he refers to blacks as "'African Americans". The term "African American" which usually does refer to ANYONE who is black and American, is absolutely ridiculous. Edmond, there are black people living all around the world, not just in Africa.
It is understood that slavery, in the U.S, did bring many BLACK AFRICANS over to U.S. soil, but it was not just Africans who were sold into slavery Edmond. Many other BLACK people from other countries were too. So, unless a Black American has done a geneology search of family history, they simply have no right to claim "African American" as their identity. That is not racist Edmonds. There are many white Africans living in the U.S. who do not refer to themselves as African Americans just because they are not black. There are many black people living here in the U.S., that came here from places like Haiti, Jamaica, Grenada, Cuba, Puerto Rico, The UK and other countries that are offended by being referred to as "African American" just because they happen to have black skin.

You are correct on my wording. I was in a bit of a hurry and caught it myself after I posted it.
It should have read " If Osama Barrack was a Republican and had had the same education and and life experiences(That supposedly could makes him a viable Presidencial canidate) and had assimulated in the same manner he would be called an Uncle Tom.
Everything else you in your response was was wishful thinking concerning "Obama".
By the time the election rolls around people will be burned out with the hype on both Obama and Hillary and the GOP will get Bush to pull most of our troops out of Iraq and a more traditional and electable GOP canidate will emerge from the pack like Rudy Guliani and become the next President.
Most voters that have been around for at least 50 years have enough sense to never allow either one of these unsuitable and extreme socialists to ever become President of this country.
Brilliant!
Posted by Campos Compost on August 29, 2007 09:07 AMWell, Campos Compost, if you are a fan of Rudy Giuliani, first you need to learn how to spell his name correctly. Second, before you say Giuliani is "traditional and electable", you should examine your candidate first.
Traditional?
Rudy Giuliani married his second cousin, Regina Perrugi but said he did not know they were related. Then he divorced her after 14 years and got an official "annulment"-- a decree from the Catholic Church that the marriage never happened (for 14 years!!) thus allowing remarriage in the Church. What a Guy!
After divorcing his second cousin, he married Donna Hanover, but in 1996 began appearing with Ms Lategano, his 28 year old secretary while he was married to Hanover. But after a while he dumped Ms. Lategano and started dating his new mistress Juditih Nathan, a wealthy divorcee. They eventually married in 2003. Rudy started divorce proceedings against Hanover in 2000 while he was seeing his mistress.
While Rudy made his name attacking the mob, Rudy's dad, Harold Giuliani, a convicted felon was tied to the mob, did prision time for robbery and other misdeeds.
Rudy lied to the 9/11 rescuers and the people of NYC by claiming the air was safe to breath even though the air had an acidic content equivalent to that of draino and now all of the search dogs and many other 9/11 rescuers are dead because of what Rudy failed to do.
And as for your last sentence, remember that it was many of those same votes who have been around for 50 years who were indeed resoonsible for electing socialist Bill Clinton, who you will get if Hillary is selected by the elite to be the next puppet president.
But if George W Bush, whos grand father, Prescott Bush, supported and funded the Naxzis during the war, through the Union Bank of New York, can become president then it is possible that a sleezeball like Giuliani can too.
Posted by WW on August 29, 2007 09:41 AMYes Thomas,
The Daily Show has brilliant writers. It is a scripted comedy show working for ratings. It is funny! Satire! not to be taken seriously. Do you also watch the Colbert Report? Are you bright enough to “Get IT” or do you take Colbert's rantings as facts too? I enjoy both shows but would never use them as a source of factual data.
AF
Uh-huh, AF....
And what is The O'Reilly Factor?
It doesn't even have to be scripted because it's just made up regurgitated rhetoric.
Do YOU get the difference between O'Reilly's rants and facts?
And for the record...this wasn't a scripted comedy segment. It was an interview. I fully realize that Obama may have been provided the questions that Stewart would be asking before hand but he was not acting in a skit or reading off a prompter. He was responding with remarks that I'm sure he prepared and probably has to say at numerous speaking engagements just like any candidate.

Chill out! I should have said is traditional for as our usual types of canidates with all the human frailties. All except they and Guliani were not pinkos, commies and socialists wannabe's like you or your two Presidential hopefuls are. You would not have gotten so upset if deep in your liberal heart what I speculated was going to be the likely end result. You lefties are so easy!
oh thomas when you want to stop the name calling of obama as osama then go to the wonderful ole drunk of the senate your loveable fat slob teddy. he couldnt remember his name and said it on the senate floor.
and for his education outside of the US in Indonesia one really needs to understand the teachings of that school.
they hate anyone not muslim
WW
I was laughing so hard at your posting I forgot to go back to my original handle for this topic. But you lefties are full of "Hogwash"!
As a libertarian voter and since I support the only 2008 presidential candidate who would actually follow and restore the United States Constitution Republican Congressman Dr. Ron Paul, I do not qualify as a "leftie" as you have suggested.
Perhaps the reason you are lauaghing about the facts I have written about Rudy Giuliani (maybe you can spell it now) and the hidden history of George W.Bush's grandfather Prescott Bush, who financed the Nazi's and helped kill American soldiers for money, is because you have not studied American history and or do not bother to read books and learn what you think you know from TV.
What I have said about Rudy or Prescott Bush is not "Hogwash" but recorded history.
Posted by WW on August 29, 2007 11:56 AMMy sincere hope is that Sam Nunn, former Senator from Texas, leaves the Democratic Party, becomes the Candidate for the Libertarian party, and runs for the White House in 2008.
KW,
I really want to share your optimism that the country is really ready for more than the current two party system. Maybe it is. What gives me pause however, are the people, on these posts, like Truth, drew, Sharon B, UnAmerican, and Keith, who are nothing more than partisans. I have observed your transformation from a staunch conservative to much more liberal in your thought process as you have, seemingly, begun the same conversion I did 10 years ago, and that was recognize that partisanship does nothing but perpetuate the cycle of corruption.
I call on every single person, Democrat, Republican, or any other party or independent, to vote out any and all incumbents who have served more than 12 years in Congress. The only way to make change, is to vote for change!
Don't just listen to the sound bites, but question how things will get done. We have been bombarded with health care, social security, the environment, and education, for as long as I can remember, yet NOTHING EVER GETS DONE.
It's time for a change, and we can help enact that change. Step out of your partisan comfort zones, really understand what the issues are, their complexities, and the details (or lack thereof) that the candidates will do to assist with those sound bite issues.
Question how we are going to pay for a national health care system, not what our "expected savings" are.
Question how social security can be fixed, instead of just listening to the candidates say "my priority will be to fix social security."
Question the plan to fight the "war on terror." Pay attention to the costs of this war, and demand clear objectives, and check-offs for accomplishing those objectives.
Question the plan and cost for reducing CO2 emissions. Understand that the IPCC is not a scientific body, but a political body that conducts no data analysis, no data gathering, and no experimentation.
Question how education can be fixed from the federal level. We have standards, but not the freedom to do what is best, class-room by classroom.
If we actually become involved, not so that our person gets elected, but really research and understand the issues, the proposed solutions, how it will be paid for, and what that means to you directly. Let's quit being so damn lazy, and start getting serious about our government OF the People, BY the People, and For the People!
Posted by Dan2 on August 29, 2007 01:37 PMDan 2, very interesting comments, but why would you suggest "we become involved, not so that our person gets elected, but really research and understand the issues, the proposed solutions, how it will be paid for and what that means to you directly"? Why not help get a decent candidate elected?
If, as you wish us to "start getting serious about our government Of the People, By the People and For the People" then the People need to examine what each candidate stands for and stop allowing the media to select the the candidates for them.
As it stands now, the media is pushing all pro war ,all the time candidates that will, if elected,l do nothing to solve the problems you have highlighted. All of the pro war candidates, including our current proesident and VP are the ones who DID NOT SERVE in the military and really know nothing about it and are attempting to get elected by how much money they get donated to their campaign.
Only Texas Republican Congressman Dr.Ron Paul seems to understands what a waste of money and what a waste of lives war is, as he served as a flight surgeon in the U.S Airforce during the 1960's and experienced war first hand, while all the other candidates were afraid and weaseled out of it.. Check out the integrity of Dr. Ron Paul
Ron Paul:
Has never voted to increase taxes and understands that the IRS needs to be abolished, as the income tax is illegal.
(Side note: Lousiana Lawyer Tom Cryer has recently been found not guilty of income tax evasion in Federal court 12-0 by a jury who understansds that a personr labor is not income and not subject to tax. The judge agreeds and he pays no income taxes.
Ron Paul :
Has never voted for an unbalanced budget.
Has never voted on restriction of gun ownership.
Has never voted to raise congressional pay.
has never taken a government-paid junket.
Has never voted to increse the power ot the executive branch.
He votes against the patriot act.
He voted against regulating the internet.
He voted against the Iraq war.
He tells the truth that the Federal Reserve, which creates money out of thin air and charges interest on it is a Private Bank, which IS NOT FEDERAL AND HAS NO RESERVES.
The money they create is debt that causes the iflation we all have to suffer under. He would abolish the Federal Reserve and replace our currency with sound policy backed by gold and silver like it used to be. If Americans want a better America then Ron Paul is the only choice for 2008.
The only problem with Ron Paul is that besides goring the ox of the special interest groups that a voter may believe should be rightfully gored, he will gore the voter's pet projects also as there is no sacred ox to Ron Paul.
He's a rare breed in modern politics -- he advocates what he votes for and will not become involved in the barter game so deeply entrenched in DC politics. Most people want honesty and reality in politics, until it disturbs their own concept of tranquility.
Posted by mongoose on August 29, 2007 04:03 PMObama, that American negro is the most honest of all the dems.canidates which isn't saying much. But he is a socialist, which if he got in would bring down this country and our quality of life.He is also clean and articulate.
