Bill Johnson and Ward Churchill
Bill Johnson seems to be in high dudgeon over the firing of Ward Churchill (Freedom of speech took a hit along with Churchill, 07/27/07).He says Churchill was “flat out fired ...for what he had written as opinion.” I suppose Johnson may be right insofar as observing that, if he had not written that essay, Churchill might be doing lesson plans for the fall term right now, instead of huddling with his lawyer, planning strategy for the legal action he’s bringing over the issue. But Johnson is wrong on one thing: Nobody on the faculty at CU has to be careful to hide their real feelings in their writing for fear of disciplinary action- so long as they are not guilty of plagiarizing and fabricating their scholarly product. Because, in the end, after Governor Owens, Hank Brown, and whoever else chimed in to say Churchill should not be teaching, they still had to find misconduct on the part of Churchill before they could fire him.
Writing inflammatory essays calling victims of terrorist murderers Nazis, and saying their deaths represent “symmetry” for the wrongs of America is likely to attract some attention sooner or later, especially so after a national tragedy like 9/11. No one, least of all Churchill himself, should be surprised that Churchill’s background got a close look. My guess is he wrote that inflammatory essay for the express purpose of attracting attention, since all it amounted to really was a little pro-terrorist, anti-American rant. But writing that essay with incidents of misconduct in his past which Churchill needed to keep covered up is a bit like robbing banks with a clown costume on for a disguise, and then thinking nobody will recognize you working a holiday parade in the same clown suit.
So now, Churchill is suing to get his job back, and who knows? In this day of convoluted legal stratigery, he might win that suit. That would be okay with me, so long as his entrance to each lecture is preceded by playing “Send In The Clowns.” You know, just as a reminder that if he wants to attract attention, he better be sure he can stand the scrutiny.

Mr.Trimble said "Writing inflammatory essays calling victims of terrorist murderers Nazis, and saying their deaths represent “symmetry” for the wrongs of America is likely to attract some attention sooner or later, especially so after a national tragedy like 9/11."
Ok Mr.Trimble, pop quiz time - who was Churchill referring to?
A. Fire-fighting teams from NYFD
B. The receptionists in both buildings
C. The “Technocrats” working for the world-bank and other institutions that cause economic ruin in many third world countries
D. Office workers in both buildings
E. Members of the Nazi party
Hint: It wasn’t the receptionists
Bango,
Now THAT wasn't misleading at all, was it? It reminds me of a poll question. Actually, of EVERY poll question...
Mr. Churchill was free to write or say whatever he wanted, and we are free to judge him for what he said. If actions (or in this case words) indeed have consequences (just as they did for Mr. Imus), then Mr. Churchill has gotten what he deserved, purely on his essay. That doesn't begin to include what he was actually fired for, after extensive due process.
I find it interesting, as a side note, the same partisans that call for the impeachment of the President for his, shall we say, embellishments, are quick to support Mr. Churchill for his, all under the guise of free speech. Two different situations, yes, but if free speech is free speech, and our words have no consequences, then it is the same. Simplistic, but the same.

How about F. It doesn't matter what he said or to whom he was referring.
Ward, knowing his own fabricated background and credentials, should have kept his head down. He got away with some much for so long he forgot that there could be a day of reckoning. Felling infallible has its risks.
Pop quiz. Are Colorado and CU better off without WC as a teacher?
A. Yes
B. I have an agenda so No.
I read these apologists for Churchill and just shake my head. They are so quick to fret over his freedom of speech when the unmistakable fact remains that he was not fired for what he said, but rather for what he did. Almost the entire reason he was hired in the first place was for racial diversity because Churchill had fraudulently said he was a Native American. That’s just for starters. He went on from there to commit other violations.
Dan2 said it very well. Those who are up in arms over the Churchill firing are more than eager to want the entire Bush administration stung up. If lying is wrong, then it’s still wrong for those with whom you agree, not just wrong for those with whom you disagree.
From reading Bango’s droppings…er, uh…postings the past several months, he probably wholeheartedly agrees with everything Churchill said.
I wonder if this is the Michael Trimble who attended Bear Creek High School?
Posted by on August 1, 2007 04:57 PMWell Dan2, obviously it wasn’t a true questionnaire item, just a sarcastic way to suggest that Mr.Trimble is a bit of a numbskull. Pardon me if I led you to believe it was actually a serious attempt at a psychometric opinion instrument.
However, I could not help but notice that you skipped the point of what I was doing.
So to whom was Churchill referring, do you suppose?
03:24 said ” It doesn't matter what he said or to whom he was referring”
The flap and hoopla from ex-Gov. Owens on down and all the talking heads was his essay, so it seems to be important.

You are so sweet, but quite wrong of course, and maybe even a bit deluded.
I probably disagree with Churchill on pretty near everything he says or believes.
Doesn’t stop me from asking what people think he was referring to though.
Dang, I knew Bango Skank was a smart guy, but psychometric opinion instrument? Wow! I'm impressed. I'm just glad he didn't ask me to take his quiz though, because it never occurred to me that I needed to know who our states' celebrated cigar store Indian was referring to, to know that he thinks that Americans had it coming. It seemed pretty clear to me and I didn't need a psychometric opinion instrument to figure it out.
Posted by guess who on August 1, 2007 06:01 PMMr.Who, evidently you are easily impressed.
Psychometry is the science of measuring psychological attributes, not to be confused with the studies of paranormal abilities.
Opinion - what you see here mostly, statements of preference and belief.
Instrument - a test or battery of tests to measure something
Bloody easy hey?
... and here you thought you were a dope!
Churchill has a duty to his fellow brothers and sisters, that served in Vietnam, to nail Bill Owens as a named defendant (financially), in his civil action. Across all racial lines, Qwens has robbed disabled Vietnam veterans blind (jobs, contracts, and disability benefits). Owens (federal funds fraud, waste, and abuse) would be an ideal prison spouse for Nacchio (draft-dodgers, defeatist, communist-siders, and surrender monkeys).
Hank Brown is a card-toting member of the GOP's "Swift-Boat Sailors for the Un-Truth. He did the GOP's bidding in giving Churchill economic capital-punishment. Silly me! I thought the Jeffco DA's office was the regional GOP Swift-tee-tizers" hdqtrs, not Boulder.
Gov. Ritter is proving to be the 2nd coming of Owens. Ritter sticks it to Vietnam vets too. I was astonished that Ritter and Skaggs (Vietnam vet), Chairman, CCHE, in violation of federal procurement, contracting , and hiring laws, contracted with criminal illegal Hindu-Indians. These Indians were given the out-sourcing "gift" of Metro State College's (MSC), hiring and recruiting function. This act violated both state and federal appropriations. Dataman, Inc. (India based and owned), located in DTC, stole 6-figure salary jobs at MSC from African AMerican disabled Vietnam veterans. I want to thank Ritter, BILLARY, and Bill Gates, bleeding hearts for criminal illegal Hindu-Indians, none of whom did I ever meet in Vietnam.

Posted by guess who on August 1, 2007 07:35 PMguess who,
Good dig on Bango. I'm not impressed by Bango either. But they certainly are impressed with themselves, for some reason. They strike me as someone with undeserved arrogance.

You still have this strange problem with focusing on the topic. Do you have ADD? Or are you an adult with the attention span of a five-year-old?
Well,'ol Ward sorta has a point about free speech, and one could even argue that his is the voice of those who would destroy Judaeo/Christian/Western society and therefore has value as intelligence. The outfit that looks the worst here is The University of Colorado. They could have and should have known of Churchill's malicious and fraudulent actions years ago,and dealt with them then. That they did nothing until he became a political embarrassment to CU shows clearly that CU condones scientific and academic fraud, and that there are better uses for all that prime real estate up there in The People's Republic.
