Capitol shooting
They stated that it was not their place. Too bad they did not speak up. Maybe Mr. Snyder would be alive today had they did speak up.

Has everyone noticed that evertime a killers neighbor is interviewed the answer is always, "He/She was such a nice person, quiet, never bothered anyone."
Thats because they were psycho people! They want to stay under the radar. They don't enjoy interacting with people....
Leroy, read a damn textbook before you write this drivel. It's not the neighbor's fault, it's not the cop's fault...HECK, I think Bush is even off the hook on this one!
Posted by on August 6, 2007 03:06 PMLeroy, I think it was your fault for not having the insight to see that this would happen! I hope you feel guilty for your huge part in this tragedy!
Posted by on August 6, 2007 03:08 PMLeroy is a dim but troubled young man - maybe i should speak up about that.
Posted by drew on August 6, 2007 04:34 PMI don't see Mr. Martinez as beating up on the nieghbors, I see him as making the point (I think) that it is pretty sad that everyone is so confined in their own little worlds (Seriously, when's the last time we actually TALKED to our neighbors?) that someone on our block could pretty obviously go insane and we wouldn't a) notice or b) get off our asses to intervene.
Posted by Jeff on August 6, 2007 05:15 PMand everyone know that the lieing politicans need so much more protection than the normal citizen that new laws or systems are put in place to protect the bastards
Posted by on August 6, 2007 05:56 PMJeff...some people DO talk to their neighbors. Have you ever considered that there are some neighbors you just want to stay away from??? Neighborhood Watch programs are great for preventing burglaries. However, I don't advocate for Neighborhood Mental Health Teams surveying all the houses on the block for possible mental issues and then acting upon their non-clinical "suspicions." This is just more feel-good busybody BS that doesn't do a darn thing to make us safer. Leave people alone and mind your own business--let nature's cleansing mechanisms do their thing. They sure worked in the case of the capitol shooter!

But not so well in the case of the VIrginia Tech shooter.
Posted by Jeff on August 7, 2007 09:31 AMSadly, you're correct. Given my argument, it would reason that had VA Tech not been a "gun free zone" (more leftist feel-good idiocy), the VT shooter might have just walked into an ambush of sorts and solved everyone's problem right then and there. Some folks say that guns are baaaad and kill people...ooga booga. Let's say there are 99 good guys and 1 bad guy, all with guns. Now, if the bad guy's wheels finally come flying off and he goes with HIS guns, there'll be 99 good folks there to give him a fairwell 21-gun salute. It's called natural selection, folks--on the average, the wingnuts will work themselves out of the gene pool given an untampered environment in which to do so. For the rest of us, let's clear the way and let them go to it!
Posted by MYOB on August 7, 2007 01:16 PMRight, because with 99 different people shooting there sure wouldn't be any chance of an innocent by-stander getting hit, right MYOB? Got to love that Wild West mentality!
As to the Capital shooter--just one less bible beating, anti-abortionist nutjob.
