Church news is no news
Saturday, August 11 at 12:01 AM

News about the New Life Church in Colorado Springs is, I am sure, of burning importance to members of the New Life Church (“New Life Church picks pastor to replace Ted Haggard,” Aug. 2).
However, I suspect they keep up with own news. Why does the Rocky Mountain News use valuable space reporting on churches and religion? These are private matters. Perhaps better coverage about public affairs would raise the level of discourse about matters that affect all of us, not just a few churchgoers in Colorado Springs.
The Rocky’s recent coverage of Iraq, congressional subpoenas, the scandals in the Justice Department and international news in general is pitiful.
Is it time for the Rocky to reconsider its priorities?

READER COMMENTS

Come on...get real. Coverage on the Iraqi war, congressinal subpoenas, not to mention White House subpoenas, scandals in the Hall of Justice....don't sell newspapers.

Some steamy, drug induced sex affair, with a minister involved, and a street prostitute...now that is news...i guess.

The thing you must understand...if the newspaper continues to report "new developments" about the church, they get to print up the sleaze again.

It is called recycling....and in this day and age....everyone wants to be trun Green...if if it is just our stomach that makes it so.

Margaret:

You must think that the RMN is still a legitimate newspaper.

I think you should go elsewhere for your news if you're interested in something other than true-crime and sensationalism....and sports.

Oh, come now. The Je$u$ Bu$ine$$ auditorium down in the Springs is one of the biggest show business sites in town. And one of the wealthiest too. (Not many other frachises can pay over $100,000.00 in "severance" when the show's star performer gets fired.)

Certainly, auditioning the new star performer is like the trailers for "coming attractions" in any theater.

Will he bang the book and bellow the BS the way the audience wants to be entertained? Does he have the pizzaz necessary to up the take at the door - or when the collectiion plate is passed? Will he be a crowd pleaser - with continuing attacks on other people's lifestyles, to go along with the current pattern of hate mongering that marks the locality as being the hate capital of the country?

See, and hear, the answers to all these questions, and more, at the Sunday auditions! Look for dates and times in the entertainment section of your regional and local newspapers.

Gimme that ol time religion!
It'll make a ton of money for me!
(You all know the tune.)

Preacher boy Boyd, a 40-year-old marijuana and alcohol user and lots of lust-making now lusts for the lusting Haggard's job. Brady Boyd is another credulous clod like Governor Perry and W. Bush from Texas that can't do their job without celestial help.

Err in favor of the children; assume all mouthpieces for the Jew who never thought of creating toilet paper used sand as mandated by Allah when Allah postured as Jehovah are priestly predators. Couldn't god have created toilet paper? Surely an a-hole could create the item. I can say it, folks, gods are all fiction. Talking animals in holy books prove the fable.

Assume the cloth is all pedophile. Assume Pope Rat , member of Hitler's Nazi youth along with Justice Scalia's priestly son is a pedophile. Err in favor of the children. Boy Boyd looks clean-cut with two kids and a wife. If you must, trust him, but, damn it! Cut the cards.

Goddamn: Allah postures as Jehovah; Jehovah postures as Jesus Christ; all us caught in the middle just wait until the shooting starts.

I'm thinking believers have only one idea: their god created in the Middle East except for Mitt Romney's god from Kolog. I need to go take my medicine: this god business mandates it. RG: Intelligent enough to be an atheist but lack the courage.

The New Life Church in Colorado Springs is the same old hell, fire and brimstone church as it was under Haggard. But now, according to that church's teachings, Ted can expect eternal damnation. But look at this way New Life Church sheep, at least Ted had sex with a consenting adult, unlike some other sex scandaled plagued religions.

Who cares!

I care because religious dogma spread by New Life permeates all branches of government with its Taliban crapola. Now that Mormon Romney has won in Iowa and the Supreme Court blesses Bush's $billions of our tax dollars to his choice of dogma, expect Romney to channel $billions into Utah's coffers, the only theocracy in America that wears underwear to ward off evil spirits.

Women at New Life, scrubbers of the Jew's feet and forever sub-human of patriarchal religion: Read and weep you poor credulous misguided "wretch" according to Amazing Grace: ("wretch" is such a put-down: 1. a deplorably unfortunate or unhappy person.
2. a person of despicable or base character.

R. Grimes said "RG. Intelligent enough to be an Atheist but lack the courage."

After reading a lot of your comments, it appears to me that you are already an Atheist. Disbelief in the existence of a supernatural god and all the dogma that comes with it does not take courage, it just requires common sense. So what is the problem?

All religions are astrotheological in nature. For example, the ficticious Jesus, is simply the Sun personified as a real person and has nothing to do with a man made invention of a supernatural god. Try reading a book by author David Mills titled 'Atheist Universe: Why God Didn't have A Thing To With It' ... The World's Best -Selling Book on Atheism. You will not lack the courage anymore. Another excellent one is 'The End of Faith' by Sam Harris.

I jest 02:21. You will never read a headline that says: Atheists slaughter Agnostics. Only believers slaughter saving their most vicious attacks for each other. http://www.geocities.com/r22037/think.html

I invite you to seek a complimentary copy of FreeThought Today at www.ffrf.org and not because you need it but because you will join the cause for Separation of Church and State, America's Siamese twins that must be separated lest hello Dark Ages, an era W. Bush seeks to bring back and the Catholic cabal, the Vatican five on the Court embraces: Damn terrorists have blown up half the Wall given to us by the Founders insulating Bush in his $billion of tax dollars to his favorite religious dogma. If Romney gets in, he can channel $billions to his god in Kolog, a.k.a. the theocracy of Utah.

Richard,

I, too, have reached your website as given in the hyperlink form of your screen name. However, all I find is a listing of titles, and no inforation as to how to actully get the materials.

Might you provide some information as to how to actually be able to read the works? They do appear to be interesting. Thank you for your consideration here.

Immensely gratified that anyone would want to read my hybrid-vanity-plagiarism. Quite reluctant to use the word "obvious;" so, I won't. Never do I seek "three pence gain" for my cribbing of someone else's brain-baby. Make your check out to FFRF for $10 and mail it to me and I will hold it for 30 days and forward it to FFRF or trash it when you return the book. Reason Abandoned is nearly 400 pages, hence $15. My quest is to staple together as with the Bible and call it Grimes' Bible. Wow!~~ Somebody who can splice words far better than I will pay to read mine.
