Columbine dedication
Friday, August 17 at 2:00 PM

Steve Schweitzberger Columbine parent 1998-2006 of Littleton writes:

copy to: Editor of the Newspaper whose photo of 15 crosses will live in infamy.
If Foothill Parks and Recreation, lessee of Clement Park from Jefferson County Open Space, has been consistent about anything, it is their resistance to any religious remembrance of Columbine.
I don’t think any church choir would have been allowed to participate at a dedication of the authorized memorial. I can’t blame racism, only political correctness, for their denial of the request of Betty Schoels to have her church choir sing. Remember also two crosses were destroyed because of religious intolerance, of the 15 original crosses erected by Christian Greg Zanis of Illinois, in the days after the massacre at Columbine High.
If I owned a newspaper, and also wanted God to know I believe all life has meaning, I would run a front page photo showing the 15 original crosses erected on the dirt ridge to the East of the new memorial, superimposed on a fresh photo of the dedication ceremony for the memorial it took eight years to define. Of course that photo would have to be “photo-shopped” to combine aspects of the April 1999 spontaneous public memorial with aspects of the new memorial, designed by committee, in the peaceful valley below Rebel Hill.

READER COMMENTS

So, you think God reads the newspaper? Even with all the healines about priests molesting boys? I doubt it! I'd bet he'd be more of an on-line/Blackberry kind of guy. But then again, being omipresent, maybe he wouldn't even need the Blackberry.

"All life has meaning." Of course, all life has meaning. It is called intelligent design. You eat me before I eat you.

God doesn't read the liberal MSM -- He only watches Fox and listens to talk radio. If you read the Bible you would know this.

I can't believe all the asinine comments being made on this page!

I think all the polical correctness in this whole matter has been a ridiculous mistake and has been an embarrassment to all logical thinkers.

Whatever, within the law, brings comfort to those who had children there at Columbine that awful day should be allowed. An aunt's request to have her church choir sing, a father's religious quote, WHATEVER.

The debates on what would, should and could be allowed at memorials and the memorial site have been nothing short of ridiculous! They can allow this but not that, we've heard these debates for years.

It's time to bring that horrible day to an end. The dedication of that memorial should be a fitting tribute to those who died and those who will be forever affected by it. We will never forget those who were taken from us that day, so let the families do it the way they see fit.

STOP THE POLITICAL CORRECTNESS!

I'm sure on that horrible day,Oh my God was said hundreds of times. I'll venture to assume that as children lay dying or stuck in rooms with the dying they were praying.

Let these families have their peace and closure the way the see fit. The school system should stay out of it.Their the ones that helped start things in motion that could not have been stopped. It's called Bullying.

You know what the most ironic thing is about the Columbine shooting? It still may have the unwanted distinct description of the worst high school shooting in the U.S. but unfortunately VA Tech now has the record for worst college massacre in the U.S.

Here is where the saga of both schools intertwine.VA Tech had a memorial in place before the start of the new school year.

Columbine has taken years and alot of argueing over a memorial.

The Columbine dedication committee or who ever is in charge, doesn't want a church choir to perform.

The VA Tech president and staff have put together a concert for the students with different bands. One is Dave Matthews Band. One of the other performers who will be there is a rapper named NAS,he has a gun conviction and if you listen to his lyrics all he raps about is killing people with guns. Kill,Kill Kill,Murder,Murder, Murder! some of the lyrics.

How must the families of the VA tech victims must feel when an administration doesn't even find out about the people they have invited to a concert to help the students heal?

Yet Columbine doesn't want a church choir singing a song of hope and healing.

What the *uck is wrong with this picture?
