But Robbie, parents are just to "busy' now days to encourage reading at home.
The remote with tv and video games make such good babysitters and I might add... future zombies.
Posted by A on August 8, 2007 12:46 PMMy kids have TV's,DVD players and video games in each of their rooms. They only watch them when they have sleepovers and most of the time they are playing outside, going to the museums, zoos, swimming or just playing in the neighborhood.
They excell in school and love to read.
I took away the mystery of having these things along time ago. They are there if they want to watch or play but usually they are off.
On the other hand I was a nanny for a family that banned TV except on weekends. They would rent videos and the kids wouldn't move from the spot they were sitting in for hours at a time. They did the same with candy. They were never allowed to have it except a few pieces from Halloween. They would wolf it down like there was no tomorrow.
When my kids were about 2 they wanted candy for breakfast one day. I told them it wasn't very good for them but go ahead. They never asked for it again and rarely eat candy at all. They eat a few pieces from their Halloween candy and the rest gets thrown away. The hunt is better than the treats.
All kids are different and some will vegatate when playing video games and watching TV. Those are the ones that definately need someone to turn it off.
